Just scored a nifty powerplay goal

He's buzzing tonight.

Nice set-up by Moore but Snuggerud just not finding the back of the net much recently.

Nazar picked up a cheap assist on the 1st Michigan goal and made a sweet play to give Casy a nice look to no avail.

The announcers talked up the play of Rinzel and just now Rinzel with a helper on a PP conversion.

Minny 4-2 with 5:00 remaining in the 2nd.

I went to the Wolves game tonight. Watching Pharand, I get why Davidson took a shot with a fourth on him. Big kid, skates really well and PKs well. I don’t know if he has the ability to develop any kind of offense though.

Quentin Musty, easily the best player on the ice, hell of a pick for San Jose. Dvorsky was not impressive in the slightest, not unlike the world juniors.

Kocha Delic was an interesting guy who went undrafted, he can absolutely fly and has some offensive ability. Also Nathan Villeneuve is draft eligible this year, he looked good too, plays with some piss and vinegar.

I have been noticing how good a 2nd half Nathan Villeneive is having ..hexshoukd be ranked a lot higher by Final Rankings. Suspect he wilkbe a big riser.

The scouting reports on Villeneuve all looked very good when Sudbury drafted him...good skater..good motor..great shot.. 3 zone player.. edge and an ability to ramp up the intensity when needed..So when he did not produce big points in the first half, his ranking reflected that.. I believe he started the year on the bottom lines..In the new-year it looks like they upped him to the 2nd line with Delic...And it seems he has taken off..Very good in February and consistently scoring now..even getting PP time ..

I am very intrigued about this kid. .do not know how far he will rise but he is a much better prospect than a late 2nd to 80s pick...I was considering him for a target with ourx rd pick I round two butcI might be bumping him up to our middle pick of round 2..but if the ranking orgs raise him up to early2nd official Rankibgs then I probably make him a target consideration for our 1st pick in round 2.

As it is I was thinking steal for a team gets him late 2nd ...but if his strong 2nd half continues into playoffs coming soon then he will no longer be under the radar for a top 33-40 range pick ..and if an NHL teams took notice of his production increase then he could go earlier making round 1..in my opinion the scouts will be branded as blind if they fail to raise him from his mid-season rankings...Next season when several of the Sudbury vet stars graduate to the pros ,he wilk get featured on their top line and will be one of the leaders of the team.. His numbers next year should be among the OHL scoring leaders..

Anyway just chiming in that he has hit my radar ...goid size, good skating, good 3 zone player, intensity and sone physical edge and now finally putting it all together to hit the scores Geeta consistently...He checks a lot of boxes..

He just has zero offense and never has. The amount of guys that have no offense in junior and make it is like.. none.
I think they have found potential replacement for this gem

To be clear I presume the board offense and never has comment was about our draftee Alex Pharand...notcabout the intriguing tram-mate in Sudbury,Nathan Villeneuve, who is first time draft eligible (2024 draft and is having an excellent production increase in the 2nd half.. Checks alot of boxes...

Switched between the Minn-Mich game and the Hawks game. Just as easy to post "Hopefully no one watched the Hawks game".

I've watched a ton of Michigan this year. I think McGroarty skating might end up being a problem for him. He's smart enough a hockey player that it might not matter.. like Mark Stone or JRob but I don't agree with Wheeler that its just the first few steps.

I'd have Brindley, Nazar, and McGroarty all ranked pretty similarly. I STILL think not taking Perreault will be a pretty big miss. I've moved a bit off of Moore being only a Cogliano type. I think he's shown more offense than that, creativity wise. I just like Perreault that much.

I do find it strange that you have skating being an issue for McGroarty, when Perreault’s whole thing is that he skates in mud. One of the worst and slowest skaters I can remember.

As an aside, I’m always wary about college super teams putting up massive numbers. It feels like it conceals who’s driving the offense vs who is leeching off of it and inflating how good they actually are.

I actually don't think Perreault's skating is that bad.. more a narrative that got overblown. I think its adequate. I think McGroarty's skating is worse and Perreault's hockey brain is elite elite.

Perreault's scoring has always been elite and its been everywhere he has been. At some point it can't be ignored.

Wheeler's prospect ranks

Moore - 27
Nazar - 35
Rinzel - 64
Reichel - 65

(Del Mastro listed as an honorable mention)

I read Wheeler's reports on Moore and Nazar and they are very complimentary and seem right on the mark. However, I thought it strange that he includes Benson and Kent Johnson in his first two tiers but doesn't include Bedard or Fantilli, supposedly because he thinks they've graduated from prospect status - but Benson and Johnson have played more NHL games than either Bedard or Fantilli.

Maybe he’s arbitrarily deciding that Benson is a “would have been in the AHL” guy if not for the transfer agreement.

That's exactly what he's doing. Pretty sure he said as much in the Sabres write up regarding Benson. Which is weird. You'd think he'd just stick with a firm line or just do an organizational U23.

McGroarty will be fine at the next level. Last year he was really good playing the net front on the Michigan PP. This year he took Fantilli's spot on the right half-wall and showed a good one-timer but some really good passes to set-up teammates on the PP. I believe he'll be on a 1st unit PP at the next level.

Moore has more runway to get better. He didn't have a point on Saturday but set-up three great chances- Snuggerud at ES in the 1st and Rinzel and Kurth on the same PP in the 2nd. He's surprised me with his passing this year and a lack of goal scoring. His shot in flight is pretty damn good. Next year will be interesting for Moore's development. He should be on the 1st PP unit and take a regular turn on the PK. He'll be the main guy on the team.

Regarding any Perreault v Moore draft debate, both were under drafted.

I like McGroarty but I f***ing adored Kyle Calder and that guy was a workaholic soup sandwich of an NHLer. I think he's a confusing middle six winger at the NHL level.
