How old? 26? It’s not the worst idea, just stick him in the bottom six and see what happens if he wants a go at it.. but probably not that relevant.
I think I'm just bored of the same names rotating in and out of the bottom six.

He turns 26 in a couple of weeks and has nearly 400 KHL games (inc. play offs) played. It couldn't be any worse than dressing Johnson, Entwhistle or a kid who isn't ready.

It's not happening, but I'd like to see it.

Look at these Russians not coming over. I don’t think we are picking a Russian with a top 10 pick. I would prefer not to is what I mean.

I thought Tikhonov was signed for being Panarin's buddy so he'd have someone to come over and acclimate him to North America. Panarin was 3.5 years younger and lead KHL Champs SKA in scoring at age 23 (also had Kovalchuk, Shipachyov and Dadonov). Tikhonov was 9th on that team.

Tikhonov's signing mentions Panarin specifically. Blackhawks Sign Viktor Tikhonov to a One-Year Contract

One of the biggest enticements to Tikhonov in joining the Hawks is the opportunity to play on the same roster as Artemi Panarin. Here is what Tikhonov had to say about the young star at the World Junior Championships earlier this year:

"They should be (excited). I think honestly, he's probably the most talented kid in the KHL. He's got hands, he's got speed, he's got a shot. He can [make plays]. I know there are a lot of players there that will appreciate his style."

Later (emphasis mine) - Blackhawks’ Artemi Panarin finds comfort through a Russian connection

Panarin signed a two-year deal with the Hawks. And while the team was courting Panarin, his teammate, Tikhonov, caught their eye as well. A former Coyotes draft pick, Tikhonov went to the KHL to revive his career. After the Coyotes declined to sign him, the Hawks moved in.

“It’s obviously a nice side note they were teammates,” Bowman said. “Tikhonov can help Artemi with the language, but that wasn’t the primary reason (in signing Tikhonov).”

I still can't believe DeBrincat scored 50 in his 16 year old OHL year and 50 in his 17 year old year and then 65 in his 18 year old year.
Not to get all pedantic but it was his 17, 18 (draft year) and 19 year old years respectively due to his late birthday. Even more confusing is USA Hockey cut him from the 2017 World Junior team in his age 19 season. Caleb Jones and Jeremy Bracco were both picked from the CHL ranks, but were both former NTDP.

I was wrong but I thought Tikhonov was gonna be a rock solid middle six center. Panarin was an undrafted Russian kid with talent. Whoops.

Someone who deserves more attention on here is Victor Stjernborg. He is at 20 years old one of the better defensive forwards in the SHL. He plays such a mature game and almost never makes the wrong decision. He has been a central part of Växjö Lakers when they have won the Swedish championship, both in 2021 (as a 17 year old) and now in 2023 as a 19 year old. Impressive.

He also played in the WJC for Sweden twice and the second time he was captain of the team. He is a great leader and will probably get an A on his chest next year in Växjö. He has a concussion atm but don't be surprised if get gets to play some with the national team this season.

The thing is that he doesn't have a ton of offensive upside so he doesn't get any attention on here. Althoguh, I would like to believe he has more offense in him than what he has shown so far and that he just needs some more time. I believe that he could be a really good 4th center/winger in the NHL. Someone that you need to be successful in the play offs. Think Marcus Kruger.

Was wondering about Victor Stjernborg, too. With the number of drafted forwards and potential free agents is there still room for him? Sounds like he is coming along but with pedestrian offensive numbers do the Hawks still use a contract slot? In the past players from Europe were signed based on scoring potential.

Man, I completely forgot about Tikhonov as a Hawk

Surprised his career never panned out. He looked promising for Yotes as rookie even if his offensive game didn't show. He was solid for kid defensively

But after that his development didn't progress and he went back to Russia

It's highly unlikely to happen, but Artur Kayumov's KHL deal runs out this summer. If ever there was a time to sign a one year entry level deal with a real chance to make the NHL roster, this is it.
Sounds actually rather likely this time, although I'm not sure if there can be anything good out of that.

Tikhonov just wasn't the same after the death of his father, unfortunately it really derailed his career.

Caser, I know you follow KHL and minor laegues closely how has Roman K year been do you see a NHL level propsect at 19? do you think Safunov can play on a checking line in the NHL? any insight would be appreciated

Kantserov is having a totally legit year for his age, maybe not exactly wow, but showing some good flashes out there that makes you really think that there can be something good going forward. As for Safonov I really like him, he is big, physical and got some soft hands, but with him the question is about the skating - let's say his former linemate Voronkov is doing well for CBJ, but even here I think the skating component is just borderline good enough and Safonov is a bit worse at that (he is also bigger though).
