Just my opinion, but I think Reichel is going to take a while, but when he figures it out he will be a solid top 6er.
I don't like what I've seen in the small sample of the games he's played in the NHL and preseason.I don't think he's going to take long at all. He has 67 points in 62 AHL games, all as a 19/20-year-old. Just bc he didn't come up and put up a bunch of points last year as 19-year-old doesn't mean he's going to "take a while". Reichel is, without a doubt, one of the best 6 forwards in the organization currently. He's purposefully being kept down.

Part of me is concerned he's going to be one of those players that can absolutely tear up the AHL but does nothing in the NHL. But, I think it's more likely than not that he figures it out eventually but I do think it is going to take time.
Incredible start to say the least. Very intriguing goalie prospect (6'6, very athletic).
Commesso is the guyWe really need a goalie prospect to pan out. Hope he is the one or one of the ones. Would be nice to have options.
i think he is more of a NHL backup. I think he is NHL goalie just dont know he has dominted College to the level you would think a NHL starter would.Commesso is the guy
Same.i think he is more of a NHL backup. I think he is NHL goalie just dont know he has dominted College to the level you would think a NHL starter would.
A forward typically reaches peak production during 23-27, so the statistics are definitely skewed. I think there’s more factors here you aren’t consideringPlayers that can "absolutely tear up the AHL" but amount to "nothing in the NHL" generally aren't tearing up the league as 19-year-olds. They're tearing the league up as 22/23-year-olds.
Do you know how many players have played 40+ games in the AHL while maintaining a PpG above 1.00 in the history of the league? 9 players. In the last 20 years, it's happened three times: Jason Spezza, Mikko Rantanen and Lukas Reichel.
Rantanen was also pointless in 9 NHL games during his 19-year-old AHL season. The following year, he put up 38 points in the NHL playing on a historically bad Avs team. I think if Reichel was on this team, getting top-6 minutes, he could put up 35 points.
He could be a really good goalie but like Corey Crawford, take until age 25 to stick in the NHL. Goalies are weird. There is no typical development path.I think the problem with Commesso is how few games he's played since getting to the college level. In part bc of injuries and in part bc of Covid. Only 42 games played over the past 2+ years. Missed out on the WJC twice too. It's tougher to get a read on him.
