Man, Tony is not holding back. I hope Tony doesn't ruin a potential AEW-FOX partnership down the road. Smackdown's ratings suck and FOX is clearly overpaying for it. Maybe they decide to go with AEW when the contracts are up?

Considering NBC Universal could very well buy WWE, it would not be far fetched for AEW to end up with a FOX contract at some point.

I do not think it is "likely", but it is not impossible.

Nothing will happen until local authorities shut things down. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of indication that it will in the US and I don’t think it will either. Really affects WWE more because they go to Canada and AEW hasn’t yet.

Fox apparently has ditched production on whatever year-end show they were doing for Smackdown on New Year's Eve, for FS1, due to Covid concerns. WWE is evidently scrambling to put something together and could air stuff from their house shows scheduled next week.

They were initially planning to air a "Year in Review" show but because of the main Fox network show issue are recording matches from earlier in the week.

Roman Reigns was announced to be off the house show in Tampa today.

Seth Rollins also was off the MSG show for testing positive. He actually half-assed tweeted it.

Looks like Omicron is going around WWE, it started in NXT already

It's bound to hit AEW sooner or later since the talent from both companies live close to each other in Florida. And because it's Florida.

WWE had to make some major changes to a couple big house shows tonight.

from today's pwinsider.com:

PWInsider.com has been told that the advertised main events for the WWE Holiday Tour dates tonight in NYC and Tampa will not be taking place as scheduled due to talents not being present to work the events. The advertised main events in NYC were Kevin Owens vs. Big E vs. Seth Rollins and Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch in steel cage matches. Big E, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair are not currently backstage at MSG.

We are told WWE is currently working out alternative plans for MSG. One of those plans appears to include WWE Hall of Famer Edge, who we are told was being rushed to NYC to appear on tonight's Madison Square Garden event. The plan is for him to be wrestling on the show tonight. Natalya was also being brought to the NYC event.

We are told there will also be changes to the Tampa main event, which was was slated to be headlined by Drew McIntyre and The New Day vs. Roman Reigns and The Usos. WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks in a Street Fight has also been advertised for the Smackdown side of the tour.

While Madison Square Garden announced that a WWE NXT title bout had been added to tonight's show this afternoon, we are told that Tommaso Ciampa vs. Pete Dunne had been planned for this week's Holiday Tour events on the Raw side of the tour. It was not a case of those talents being tapped late in the game to work the shows.

PWinsider has released the full list of wrestlers absent from tonight's house shows:

NYC show:

*WWE Champion Big E.

*WWE Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch.

*Bianca Belair.

*Bobby Lashley.

*Seth Rollins.

*Zelina Vega.

Tampa show:

*WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

*WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

*Xavier Woods.

Additional Notes:

-Natalya missed Tampa as she was instead sent to NYC.

-While not advertised for either event, Carmella, Liv Morgan and Doudrop were not on either show.

-We are told Carmella was never slated for the Raw event tonight.

-With no Bobby Lashley in NYC, obviously MVP was not at the show.

-WWE opened each event tonight by noting that talents would be missing the shows due to the "effects of COVID-19." PWInsider.com first reported last week the company was dealing with a series of COVID-19 positives for both talents and backstage staff. However, their absence should not be seen as a 100% confirmation of a positive unless they have publicly disclosed it.

PWInsider posted the results from the MSG show:

They announced some stars will miss tonight due to the effects of COVID.

Edge came out as a surprise. He said he was called Christmas Eve and asked to come. Kevin Owens came out and they argued to set up steel cage match.

Finn Balor pinned T-Barr with stomp off the ropes.

Alpha Academy defeated Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode when Otis pinned Roode with a splash off the ropes. Ziggler and Roode were the babyfaces.

*WWE NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa pinned Pete Dunne. The crowd chanted NXT several times during the match.

*Natalya said she wanted to make history by beating two stars back to back in the fastest time in history. She pinned Nikki ASH with her feet on the ropes. Natalya tried to use the ropes on Rhea but Nikki showed them off. Rhea then made Natalya tap.

*Steel Cage Match for WWE Raw Tag Team titles: Randy Orton & Riddle defeated The Mysterios and The Street Profits when Randy nailed a RKO out of nowhere in Rey as he hit a springboard move off the ropes.

*WWE United States Champion Damian Priest defeated The Miz.

*AJ Styles defeated Omos by DQ when he used a chair on Omos as the referee repaired a turnbuckle. Omos grabbed the chair and Styles dove down on the mat while he had been hit so the ref DQ'd Omos. Omos chokeslammed him after.

They announced a return on Saturday March 5th. Pre-sale code is WWEMSG.

*Steel Cage: Kevin Owens vs. Edge. Edge speared him after ducking a punch with Owens hurting his hand when connecting with the cage instead. Edge climbed over Cage to win but Miz showed up and prevented it. Edge hit a crossbody off the top for a two count. Edge went to exit but Miz slammed the Cage door in his face. Edge kicked out of a stunner. Miz entered Cage and attacker Edge. Damian Priest hit the ring for the save. Edge speared Owens for the pin.

Several top WWE stars are sidelined from this week's shows with COVID infections, but WWE is taking measures the opposite way within NXT. Performance Center talent was informed this past weekend that they're no longer requiring the twice-weekly COVID testing that had previously been mandatory. We've also learned that WWE main roster also got an email being informed that weekly testing isn't required. We were not told if there was a vaccination qualifier added to that ruling.
This ruling didn't sit well with several within the company that Fightful heard from on Monday, considering how short-handed the company is with COVID infections as is.

Can't have superstars sitting out from COVID if you no longer have mandatory tests for it.

The problem isn't the virus, it's the tests! Too much testing!

I think I got this right because I listened to it but the annual WWE December 26 show at MSG was the worst selling show they've ever done at MSG (consider the number of no-show's and comps), and it was the third worst selling show of any kind in the history of MSG. One gate in the 30's did worse and I think there was another in the 70's. At press time of the Observer it was at 5,750 and usually that show does over 14,000.

Day 1 is doing pretty good though.

12/29 show in Toronto was canceled, along with the previously canceled 12/30 show in Laval. Both were rescheduled.

You have to be vaccinated to enter MSG. The Rangers and the Knicks were always automatic sell outs even if they sucked. This season the Rangers are at 89% capacity while the Knicks are at 92%.

I don't know where you're going here but 5,700 is not 89% or 92% of 14,000. The Knicks did almost 20,000 the day before. It's not Covid. Vaccine mandates should, in theory, attract more people, not less.

Reportedly a crowd shot from MSG:

This isn't news but I randomly thought of David Otunga and looked him up. Did anyone know he is actually still employed by WWE?
