Let's be fair here - their prospect pool is SICK and they have loads of 1sts. That team will have a stupid amount of good young players very, very soon.

If they don't **** it up they'll be the best team in the league within the next five years.

@RealKyper: #bluejackets Gaborik name picking up steam. Now becoming a cheaper alternative for a few teams looking for scoring like the #Kings.

Kings should really go as far as they can with Gaborik. The prices around the league look relatively low, so I think they should just go for it at this point.

Sounds like another Edmonton. He needs to get character players, grinders, etc. I would give it about 5 years. :)

I am not criticizing Lombardi, my biggest concern though is all these long term contracts going forward, it does handcuff you a bit in how aggressive you can be going forward.

And as SZG said, it's very important to draft and develop your own scoring line players because you get them on ELC and second contracts, rather than having to acquire guys with big money long term deals.

The Kings have traded a lot of young talent and draft picks since 2011, it worked out and you do it again because we won the Cup, but it's going to start being felt in the next couple of years.

I agree you need players like King/Toffoli in the cap era.

Edmonton says hi.

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference. Buffalo already has better D than Edmonton. Risto and Zadorov are beasts. Pysyk is good too. Myers is trash. McNabb decent. Maybe Ekblad. Then great two way guys like Girgensons and possibly Grigorenko if he pans out. Buffalo is doing it smart. Edmonton went full throttle offense. As RP said, with proper coaching, development (NOT RUSHING PEOPLE LIKE THE LAST GM DID), and not absolutely bombing these early picks they have, Buffalo is building a strong future.

Dear GOD NO, the Sharks looking at bringing SETO back.

That is just for the Kings, Seto has career games agasint the Kings.

Was so glad when SJ got rid of him.

Yes and no. We've drafted pretty well. We have decent players in all categories throughout our prospect depth and we have a lot of draft picks going forward, and we have a young core signed long term to remain competitive for a while. Our prospect depth chart isn't has strong and has mostly depth and role players outside of the wings, but we are looking pretty good moving into the future.

Just read that the Flyers and Jets have talked about Kane. Just hoping Lombardi could swoop in and land a guy who isn't a rental, like Kane or Ladd. Doesn't seem to fit Dean's M.O. to go for a pure rental like the names being talked about.

Would be amazing, but the cost you're talking about there is astronomical. We'd be giving up significant roster players.

I don't think Markov was ever a target for the Kings. He is a pure rental as well.

Yeah, there just isn't a reasonable way he fits and is affordable.

Darn it Dean left his cell phone in my car. There are 116 messages/texts on it. I will give it to him at dinner tomorrow

Not a bargain, but Jeff Carter's contract is more then solid. I like him every game.

I think the Kings have one bad contract, Dustin Brown and possibly soon two when Mike Richards keeps playing like he has done this year. You cant expect him to be good every playoff year, of course I dont care about the regular season if he keeps it up every playoffs.

I can't think of a better scenario of buying low and profiting. The guy will pot 40 like clockwork when healthy.

Well you do have to give them credit. They have some amazing contracts on their roster.

Cogs is going to score 25-28 goals this season (all at ES), while playing his usual excellent defensive game. Bonino has really emerged as well. Compare those guys to Williams and Richards (each teams 3rd and 4th scorers) and they have outproduced them, played better all around hockey and done it for $3.6 million while our guys are doing it for over 9 million.

That is definitely an issue with the Kings, outside of Dwight King, there really isn't a massive bargain on the roster. Toffoli is probably the next biggest.

It also helps when you pick up Penner for cheap and he puts up some points, have a 43 year old Selanne helping by taking a 50+% pay cut to play one more year, and his 39 year old close friend also taking a bit of a cut in pay to ride things out along side. Look at the huge numbers Cogliano has been putting up before this season. Of course they get him cheap as a RFA.

They didn't have to give the Conn Smythe winning goalie a new contract a few months after winning the Conn Smythe. They didn't have to pay maybe the best defenseman in the league top money.

Thanks for the update and I agree DL doesn't go for rentals, nor should he.

As an aside, I think Holmgren is an awful GM who is treating the Flyers as a personal fantasy league team. He sure doesn't seem as though he has a plan in place.

I am not concerned until Richards actually has a bad playoff's.

He as been one of the top playoff points producers league wide over the last Five years.

I fully expect Brown to return 20G 50P next year. His contract will be fine.

The Kings were not going to get Brown to sign another below market deal. Brown already gave them that deal last time.

He blew up a Stanley Cup contender. Then Jeff and Mike won a Cup in LA. :)

Jackets looking for a D. I'm calling it now, Martinez is gone if we make a deal for Gabby.

Well, nobody was forced to sign him to that deal because he was a bargain the first time. Personally I think he's not a $6M player, far from. There's a grey area between below market deal and $6M.

As for Mike, I also give him the benefit of the doubt, because of the past few post seasons.

Really hope Dean doesn't go after Vanek or Moulson. Those 30 y/o UFAs could be disasters for teams that will sign them longterm. They are still in their prime and they want to sign their last and biggest contract in their careers. Vanek will probably want something like 8x8M contract and will be overpaid by year 3 if not earlier.

Source: Quiet for now with Ducks, Isles and Vanek. Anaheim views Vanek as distant backup plan. Ducks really want a center.
