Martinez is not being punished due to last year's performance. That concept is silly. No coach would do that. If that was the case he would not be on the team. Say what you will about Sutter, he is a professional coach that wins and cares about winning.

Yeah. I don't think we need to look much further than Martinez' handedness (shoots left) and his role (puck-mover) to figure out why Sutter doesn't give him more ice time.

So it's between Muzzin and Martinez, with Sutter estimating (until recently?), that Muzzin is more likely to grow into that LHD stay-at-homer to pair with Doughty than Martinez is. As mistake prone as Muzzin is, I think Sutter is right.

I don't understand the hate for Muzzin. Dude has a lot of potential. Martinez was never going to be a top 4 guy, he's a #5-6...that has always been his projection.

Muzzin has the potential to be a top 4 D man and technically is right now on the Kings.

Mark Morris compared him to a young Willie Mitchell. He has had his hick ups last year and in the playoffs and parts of this season, but there is tons of potential and ability.

I don't hate Muzzin. I actually really like Martinez tho.

IF I had to choose one it would be Martinez but Sutter seems to disagree.

I still wish LA had a Dan Boyle that could run the PP.

I know a lot of you are disappointed in this mini trade deadline but in the words of hockey bloggers...stay tuned.

Not too surprised the Kings did nothing, but I'm surprised how quiet it was all across the league

I really, REALLY want the trade deadline frenzy to be over.
I'm sick of it already...

It might not work Handedness wise but

RR Doughty
Mitchell Voynov
Greene Martinez
Bodnarchuk/Whoever

I could live with.

That's basically the cup winning lineup (with Scuderi/RR swapped). And there's nothing wrong with that this season. (In fact, the past few games with Martinez hurt, Muzzin appears to have earned a demotion down to the spot opposite Greene.)

I think Sutter and Lombardi are looking ahead, too, and have been using this regular season to groom the player they think has the best long-term opportunity to pair with Doughty (that's Muzzin). Mitchell and Regehr are both nearing the ends of their careers, and Mitchell is an FA this summer (iirc), so maybe it's worth taking some lumps now, to find out if Muzzin is the right choice -- and help him develop if he is.

The more I watch the game and the roster-building part of it, the more I don't envy Lombardi his job. Filling out a competitive roster is a process. An ongoing multi-year process filled with compromises and surprises and second-guessing. And it never ends.

Bite Me!

Meh, I really wanted Gagner. Not really my type of player, but I thought he'd be a good addition to our team. I haven't read any recent posts, but I'm guessing MacT wanted too much and Lombardi was unwilling. Good for Lombardi. Anything more than a Clifford + Muzzin or Clifford + a mid to late round pick is about as much as I would have paid for Gagner.

Clifford+Muzzin is too much for Gagner.

That's two roster players (young one's), for an overpaid third line (40p) Center.

Glad Lombardi stayed away, only way I want Gagner, is if it's on the cheap, with EDM eating like 60% of the salary.

I was good either way. I am glad DL did not overpay, but would have been happy with Gagner. Especially as his cap hit would have been lower.

Haven't confirmed yet, but likley once #Oilers asked for prospect over a draft pk for Gagner, (see last night's tweet), things went sideways

Thats the end of that?

Oilers aren't eager to retain salary in Gagner trade and are believed to be receiving interest from other teams based on the buzz…

LA-Edmtn deal could still go down, but, what's the rush? Gagner is playing well and could fetch more at deadline or at the Draft.

I would be willing to give up more for Grabner, he has proven he can score in this league.

Speed, Left hand shot, Scoring touch, decent size.

Only 26.
