This is bad.
I’m stuck to this damn computer. Awaiting any new update. I’m shirking my responsibilities. I NEVER do this! Oh, wait, I do this during the draft and the trade deadline and free agent frenzy.....
Never mind. Go back to what y’all were doing.
Go Sharks!

You don't need to be glued to the computer. Nothing can happen until Sunday anyway.

When I discover it's not news of Tavares signing with us:

When my wife tells me to come to dinner:

(There is no dinner, only Tavares!)

Everyone is shipping Tavares to Toronto, but I just don’t see it. I don’t think Toronto is really too different than NYI. Marner, Mathews and Nylander are obviously great talents - but past those three, I don’t see a lot to be excited about. They are still missing depth, their defense still has holes in it, and their culture is still running guys like JvR out of town. Toronto had a good year and made it into the playoffs. So did Edmonton last season. Look how that turned out. And that’s my point, Toronto still needs a ton of work to actually be a contender. And now that they aren’t drafting 1OA, you gotta question where is it gonna come from?

It’s like this:
Pavelski = Mathews
Couture = Nylander
Hertl = Marner

But who equals...
Burns? Not Gardiner
Vlasic? Not Anyone, lol.
Tierney? Not Bozak.
Kane? Not Kadri.
Thornton? Not Marleau.
Dillion? Not Roman Polak.

And those are the “core” parts. Even the “depth” they have no answer for. Karlsson, Donskoi, Braun, Heed, Ryan, Labanc, Timo, hell Eric Fehr. Past those top three, Toronto is still a team in progress. They may compete one day, but they still have years to go in their rebuild.

San Jose is gonna compete next year. With or without Tavares. Hell, Jumbo doesn’t go down, and PDB players Ryan from game 1 and we are very likely a third round team this year.

I just think Toronto thinks way too highly of itself. It’s really a lot closer to Buffalo or Edmonton than it is San Jose, Tampa or Nashville.

This waiting reminds me of Summer 2016, when everyone tracked Durant's free agency. As a life-long Warriors fan, July 4th had a double great meaning with Durant agreeing to terms with us. Let us hope Summer 2018 has a similarly positive outcome for our home team!

Twitter embeds are easy now, just paste the URL right out of the address bar. No need to extract part of the address, or use twitter's oddball embedding tag generators.

Pete went along with it, but did nothing but make passive-aggressive comments in the elevator.

"It's Canada Day on Sunday, Doug. That's a great day to do family activities. You know, with your son. I'm sure you will too since your son is still employed by the organization. Then you could have a barbeque on Wednesday too. With your son. Must be nice."

"But you still have a son, Pete..."

"YOU TORE OUT MY ****ING HEART DOUG! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW? EVERY DAY I HAVE TO GO INTO THAT LOCKER ROOM AND LOOK AT TOM AND BE REMINDED OF WHO ISN'T HERE! JOHN TAVARES ISN'T GOING TO FIX THAT!!"

and at that moment the elevator door opens and there's Tavares there with a "Welcome San Jose delegates" sign, only to look heartbroken, drop the sign, and run off to lock himself in someone's office.
Everyone’s thinking that the reason the meeting went long is because it was going well but really it’s because they had to get Tavares out of the office.

simple. Matthews doesn't want to be there and doesn't sign. Decides to come to SJ to his birth roots and play for a club designed to win without a BabCock all up in his face. :naughty:

Leafs sign Tavares to a 10 year, $10m deal which also includes a lifetime supply of Maple Leaf brand sausage and a $500 Tim Horton's gift card every month.

If Tavares signs for the Leafs the boards will be down for the foreseeable future. Leafs fans are something else
