It matters.

Plan B maybe guy with NTC who'll decide to waive for Sharks.

ya but at what expense. there's no way we trade for a 1C without losing so much. I really dont care if we overpay JT. We need to fill that hole. And fill it hard. Jam it in there DW, jam it in there.

To look into this and excite us needlessly...

People may be focusing on the wrong thing: it’s not that Tavares was left alone with the coach, it’s that the owner of the team, the general manager and the agent “went for a walk.”

I work in the entertainment industry and have reps (I’m unimportant, commercials blahblah - I’m poor. Not humble bragging just telling you where I’m coming from) and I can’t imagine my reps ever leaving my side during a meeting UNLESS it’s to talk business. They specifically take business talks away from me so I’m never the bad guy (and never negotiating).

It frankly feels more like they went out to work on the deal...

Or, less optimistically, Brisson was like - JT aint signing here but my OTHER client... etc etc

Ok, I guess this helps explain a bit what the fearthefin tweet mentioned. Can THEY talk $$$? If the player isn't there? I have no idea how this ish works.

Or can Hasso say, I'll buy him hella stuff if he comes here. We'll make it worth his while. I like Yachts. Does he?

John Tavares goes to LA for pitches, the first pitch is the Maple Leafs. They put together an elaborate presentation, they finish and go. After the Leafs comes in Lou Lamierello and Barry Trotz, 2 people that he's dealt with for a very long time. They do their presentation, but given how much they've talked, it's not nearly as in depth or elaborate as the Leafs. Darren Dreger gets word from a secondary source that Tavares was "impressed" with the Leafs presentation. Well, it was the 1st and only major presentation he saw. Dreger then talks about it on the radio and tweets about inciting elation in the Toronto. More clicks, more listeners = more money for TSN and Dreger. McKenzie and Lebrun are real insiders, Dreger is getting worse and worse as time goes by. He's pandering to the Canadian fans.

ya, this shouldn't be taken serious at all. wtf does that mean anyway...he was impressed. I've been impressed by a lot of things, it doesn't mean I jump in. my last brazilian girlfriend was impressive, at first. then, well...

What is not clear in my mind, why did Brisson go to walk Hasso out to his car?? He’s the agent.

I meaaaan... I don’t think Bettman has their suits bugged. Plus, Doug is masterful at lawyer talk. It could be as simple as — we’re prepared to match (or top by a million or whatever) any amount the top competitor is offering and we are open to full term.

They’re all smart people and I’m sure if they need to they’ll bend the rules.

It’s very peculiar to me that out of all of the meetings, the agent took a walk with Doug and Hasso. We’ll see I guess!

No matter what, he didn’t need to talk to the Isles one on one as he obviously knows what they’re offering - I think they’re still our biggest competitor.

Maybe out of respect. What I do like that may be working in our favor is that Wilson has more experience and is more “seasoned” than Dubas who I believe is our biggest competition minus the Isles. I personally don’t take that for granted in this type of setting.

That's a hell of a lot of coffee because their donuts sure suck.

Donuts haven't been the same since they switched from made-in-store to frozen and shipped in pre-made just to be finished in store.

The muffins are pretty good though. And teh sandwiches aren't bad for a place that isn't a sandwich shop by trade. Good turkey bacon club. And chili.

If Tavares signs for the Leafs the boards will be down for the foreseeable future. Leafs fans are something else

Don't think that will happen, but they are something else, eh?

I think all of this is window-dressing to get NYI top dollar. If JT signs with another club, it's likely due to NYI miscalculating, imo.

Well boys and girls, according to the main board it’s between the Isle and leafs, so might as well look to plan B. Leafs fans obviously have more info than anyone else, probably because they’re god’s team and he/she talks directly to them. Not sure why she/he’s cursed them for so long though.

Lol, they don't know shit.

Signing Tavares makes no sense for the Leafs, but I guess let them do them.

They'll want to trade him by year 4 anyways.

But why though. How much more do you think tavares wants above 11 mill per? 12,13,14? If the difference is really a couple mill per year after the sweetheart deal he gave them prior, I don't see why the isles don't just give it to him. If they are playing hardball with him all these pitches may seem mighty enticing to him compared to what the Islanders are offering.

We're also at a disadvantage because every Ontario-born NHLer has a genetic predisposition to want to play for the Leafs. Like salmon returning to their spawning ground, if you're from Ontario you'll don the blue and white one day and return the Leafs to glory.

The boards will go down if the Leafs sign Calvin De Hann. We might as well start over from scratch if they land Tavares

The turkey bacon club easily redeems Tim Hortons lol. Way to taste.

If you thought that NYI should sharpen their pencils and get their calculators (or spreadsheets) going for a better offer, what you would do in this situation?

I read it as mostly that, and the Sharks are JT's backup plan.

I'll probably give up on hockey. I can't imagine this board where Tavares is on the leafs.

Seriously, they have a few good posters but for the most part I can’t stand their self centered arrogant attitude. I want to see Marleau hoist a cup but not in a Leafs uniform
