Its the downtime of the pro golf year, so its a good time to give everyone an update on amateur golf.

This post was from July.

An Australian kid won the US Junior Am, 2016 graduate, almost 18 years old, but the runner up was a kid named Noah Goodwin who's going to deservedly get a lot of hype if he continues playing the way he's been playing in recent years. Goodwin's the best junior golfer in the USA, despite being two years younger than some of the older junior am's, and he's 35th in the world am rankings, which is just insane for a recently turned 16 year old. Hopefully he does well at the US Amateur next month. He's a player to watch, during that tournament.

Newest World Amateur Golf Rankings were released today. He's up to 9th in the WAGR. Second highest ranked American amateur in the world, behind McNealy who's five years older. He has almost 6 months to break the record for youngest ever WAGR #1. He'd already be #1 by some distance if it was on a per event basis like OWGR, but the WAGR system is complicated, and it takes too much time to explain.

The golf media will start picking up on this kid as the next McIlroy or Spieth level prodigy within the next year. When that happens, remember that I was first to tell everyone here, and I beat the media to it.

How long does McNealy get to stay on that list if he never turns pro?

He can stay as long as he wants, but if he doesn't play big events, he won't gain points. Its a two year rolling calendar though, so about 6-12 months of not playing, and he'll start dropping a lot.

Looks like Stenson is heading for the Race to Dubai win. Good 2nd place finish in WGC Shanghai to take the lead from ice cold Willett, who finished among the very last. McIlroy finished 4th and is in third place overall, but is apparently skipping all tournaments before the final so that makes him an unlikely challenger. The rest are just too far behind. Stenson will skip Turkey next week and focus on South Africa and Dubai.

Matsuyama won with seven strokes btw, absolutely great week for him and his biggest win to date. First Asian player to win a WGC tournament, gonna be ranked well inside the top10 aswell.

Wonder when we get to see Beau Hossler in action

Probably 2017. I think I read that it was a 4 month rehab before he could start practicing, so thats probably late October when he was able to practice. I figure it takes another few months of practice before he's ready to play, so maybe in January.

Aaron Wise is two back of the lead right now. He'd be the youngest winner on the PGA Tour since 2013. He's about 20 and 4.5 months old. Six golfers have won on the PGA Tour at age 20 or younger in the last 55 years. Ray Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth.

I don't actually think Wise is that good. I think he's kind of overrated because he won the NCAA Title, like DeChambeau was, but if he wins, thats an elite group of golfers to join. Hard to argue with results.

Norén is absolutely on fire, started the day six back and leads by two now after 10 holes. Top10 ranking looming.
