Wait, you said they were going to ask 1st + Levi and something else besides the first one. If I offered 1st yesterday and UPL, would you say that I offer garbage.
There is a difference between what I expect Vancouver would ask for and what I would be willing to give up for Demko.

I wouldn't be shocked if Vancouver wanted more than a top 10 protected '23 1st and UPL for Demko. I just would be unwilling to add Ostlund to that package to get Demko.

I think too many people are throwing Ostlund into proposed trades like he is a disposable prospect. I believe that he might be the best option they have in the pipeline today to slot in as 3C behind Thompson and Cozens. I would not want to give him up right now.

Honestly, goalies are too variable for me to be willing to put one of the '22 1sts in a package deal that includes another 1st for a goalie outside of untouchable goalies that are not worth discussing as trade options.

What would you personally give up for Karel Vejmelka?
What would I Personally give up? Since he's Czech, he may be interested in a few Stan Makita hockey cards I have from the 1970s. Otherwise, I don't think I have anything he'd be interested in having. Maybe some of my homemade bread & butter sweet and/or garlic dill pickles and my pickled mild and/or hot banana peppers, pickled jalapenos, etc. But I really don't think anything I have would entice him. My clothes would be too small, with the exception of my shoes / boots (size 13 EEE US), but I doubt he really needs (let alone wants) them.

If it were my wife's baked goods or cooking in play however, he'd sign an extension tomorrow.

Well, I agree, I don't want to trade Savoie, Ostlund or Kulich at all. I just said what asked Canucks fan.

If we could get Hart or Vejmelka cheaper than Demko, I'm all for it.

I doubt you see the Flyers move Hart. They went what seemed like forever looking for a good goalie. They finally have one and I doubt they give him up.

I would be surprised if Vejmelka or Demko move, too.

So we distill this down to "B_G gives up his wife". Got it.

I think this team should be aggressive with trades to fill some holes. But I’m with you. I think you set an internal rule that savoie/levi/ostlund/kulich/Rosen are untouchable for now. All five are high-end prospects. We have enough other interesting prospects and picks to make trades with.

Sure, that may mean we can’t get Demko, but so be it. There’s other fish to fry

I wonder if they contemplate giving Subban a couple games before the new year and Comrie coming back ?

we can trade prospects for a legit NHL goalie at this point. There isn't going to be spots for all of our prospects, and our current skaters are fine

Agreed. But some can be off the table

I'd say no untouchables at this point. Get an average goalie, and this team contends for the cup. A bad goalie, likely a 2nd round or ECF exit. The current sub NHL goalies, likely missing playoffs

Sure, but that's not really the style. The Hasek and Thomas styles were basically stop the puck at all costs, any way you can. That's difficult thing to teach. There's a reason only two goalies in the past 30 years played like them.
Hasek was a different breed who incorporated yoga and gymnastics into a style.

Only Goalie in history to fluke his was to a couple cups, 2 Harts, 6 vezina and a Olympic Gold Medal according to fans outside of Buffalo

How far out is he?

Just started skating and they list him as week to week. That might be by the end of the month. It's getting to that point by staying at their current modest point pace since the losing streak that is going to be hard without improving their team defense regardless of who is in net. That's forwards with attention to defensive detail, that's defensemen making better outlets and reads, and staying the f*** out of the penalty box since they just do not kill penalties well.

yea, you don’t need to trade away blue chip prospects for average goaltending. If you can fill you holes without giving up blue chip prospects, you do that. This is a team with two franchise level defensemen, two fantastic centers, and four very good wingers. You supplement that with our top prospects and some savy trades if possible.

Again, I want to move prospects and picks at this point. But you can do that while keeping your top 5 prospects.

And I’m not saying you never trade those prospects, but not yet.

I agree that the defense should be better, but you also mentioned comrie's sv% with a healthy D, which implies its not impossible to have average/ good numbers in front of this team.

I'm hoping to see comrie soon. I wouldn't say I've given up on UPL but can't say I'm real high. While I get the roch defense hasn't been good either, he hasn't exactly succeeded relatively. Worse save %s than guys like Dell houser tokarski the past 3 years.

And while the buffalo D needs work, the past few games have not seen the barrage of 2v1s and breakaways comrie was seeing.

I don't consider myself a good goalie judge, but I do get the frustration in relying on a guy that doesn't have a recent strong track record of stopping pucks at multiple levels, even if there's context that explains some of it

They still had a couple tonight but they went from giving up half-a-dozen or more per night down to two or three as they've gotten healthier.

They want UPL to play to work on honing his craft, and I think that still factors into how they are approaching his time in Buffalo. He surprised during his recall last year with being steady prior to being injured. This recall has not been that. The issue is how long is the horizon for UPL development and is their plan to still have him graduate to the NHL next year without knowing what his development will be like over the rest of this season. And that's still concerning to me.

I wouldn't like to either. However, with our offense, this is a cup winning team with mere average goaltending. We could be like the 2005-2007 Sabres and win 8-5 if we had to
