Dunno how to feel about the nl east.

On one hand, there's no other division that will help the visiting attendance more than this one. On the other hand, nyy, and Boston will be top 2 in the standings more often than not, I'm guessing.

The Bronfman group has stated that its next step will be to announce the location of the stadium and all signs point to Peel Basin as the location. Peel Basin is in the heart of the burgeoning Griffintown neighborhood, right next to the downtown core and about a 15-minute walk from the Bell Centre. The upcoming REM light rail system has a stop on Peel Basin making the location easily accessible by public transit. The stadium seems like it will be a more intimate stadium of about 32,000 to 38,000 seats. There is a lot of talk of Bell being a sponsor of the stadium by paying upfront for the naming rights which would cover part of the cost. The Bronfman group will cover a large portion of the cost as well but will get help from the provincial and federal government.

That's what we know so far.

The REM used to have a stop planned at Bassin Peel, but it currently doesn't.

The REM used to have a stop planned at Bassin Peel, but it currently doesn't.

Actually , the station will be nearby, the Bassin Peel, just north or south of the Bassin.

The Bassin peel is the perfect location for many reasons:

- 14 minutes walk from the Bell Center (downtown)
- Very Close of the Old port and old Mtl : places with the most tourists in Mtl (americans)
- Highway 10 - 720 nearby. (Tunnel Ville-Marie East)
- New Champlain Bridge and Victoria Bridge
-Possibility of home runs in the Bassin Peel
- Nice view on the downtown skyline of Mtl

THE REM :

- Trudeau Airport to Bassin Peel station= 20 minutes without any transfer. If we are in America league east : People from Toronto, Boston and NY who will take a flight will be at the stadium fast and easily

- Station 10-30 ( South Shore) = 14 minutes. Not just the people from the southshore but fans from Granby, Sherbrooke and even Drummondville and Quebec City will be able to park their car at the 10-30' station and taking the REM

- West Island = Ste-anne de Bellevue and Kirkland to Bassin Peel : 28 minutes without transfer

- Deux Montagnes and Laval to Bassin Peel: 33 minutes

- East Island : Green Line of the Metro , transfer at McGill station to the REM and to bassin Peel = 3 minutes later !!
Blue Line of the Metro, transfer to Edouard Montrpetit station : Rem to Bassin Peel = 6 minutes

It's gonna be easy from all Mtl Metropolitain areas to get to the Stadium either by walk from downtown of by the REM from South, East, West and North

The REM is really a metro 2.0 and it will change Mtl a lot .....plus the REM will be ready in 2021 ( South part) then, 2022-2023 for West-Airport-North Part

What's the REM again? Is it what we used to call le Train de banlieu? (I rememebr when I was in college one of my friends lived in Deux-Montagne and he took the Train de banlieu everyday). It's been a while since I went to Montréal, I lived there from 2001 to 2008 but haven't really returned since, so I'm out of the loop a bit

I really like the idea of leaving the car on the south shore and getting to the Stadium by public transport. For me (and most people from Québec City and eastward, really), it's really convenient. Just hit up la 20 Ouest, then get to 10-30 and park the car, hop inthe train and off you go to party on the island, without having to worry about the car

To my outsider eyes, Bassin Peel looks like a pretty dang great spot. Griffin town is a good downtow location, it's close-ish to St-Laurent, Quartier Latin, Plateau, Mile-End so plenty of options (for my tastes) for eateries and places to go before and after the game. Plus it's close to 30 and even 20 since it's right by the South Shore. Doesn't get much better than this

It'll only be 14 minutes from the Dix 30 station? Sweet. I bought my house not far from there like a month before they announced there'd be a station there. My father in law couldn't stop talking about how our house value just skyrocketed because of it.

Guys, THe REM will change Montreal forever like the Metro did 50 years. ago.

6.6 billion $ project - 67 km (The metro has 71 km btw)

Too much people still think that it's just another Train de Banlieu...it'a a lot more.

It's a metro 2.0 without driver:

Well I did say that I was out of the loop and wanted to learn more :D

I didn't say it was a train de banlieu, I was asking!

But to be fair, you're not wrong to think that it's related to the Trains de banlieue, as for the Deux-Montagne/West-Island part the REM will use the existing terrain used by the Trains de banlieue. They're intertwined, although the REM will link a lot more suburbs to Downtown Montréal than what the existing train system currently does.

Odds are they might even extend the plan to build an Eastern part to go up to Pointe-Aux-Trembles, either that or a tramway. Everybody knows the service on the East is lacking both in quantity in quality.

It's an exciting project.

You don't need to convince me for the location. I believe they removed that station at some point but probably got told to plan to build one in case Montréal gets the expos back.

The longest interview with Stephen Bronfman that you're going to hear anywhere, is with Jonah Keri on his podcast, available at this link: Could Major League Baseball return to Montreal? Son of former Expos owner is trying to make it happen

Bronfman comes across as very confident and in control. Just scroll down the page to find the podcast.
It's hard, not to get excited about all of this...kudos to the Bronfman family. Expansion team, or the Rays relocated, doesn't matter, just want to see it all come together.

More likey expansion than relocation they say. Maybe by 2021-22

Also expecting an expansion to be the most likely scenario. This way when an expansion is awarded contingent on a new stad first season would start when construction is completed.

I hope it's not another expansion as the city has already had one for the franchise that was relocated.

I don't know that an expansion is more likely than a relocation. I mean, I'll still be happy either way, but a relocation is preferable for obvious reasons.

We will take it in any form. There are other strong markets like Portland, Charlotte or even Vegas in the run for a franchise. Maybe Montreal would indeed be looked as a reloc destination since we could accomodate a franchise at short notice at the big O. Dont think such occasion will arise any time soon. Rays are still working to remain in Tampa.

Nothing is assured and I don't think anyone is taking anything for granted. It's been little pieces of favorable news here and there and we'll take them. At least, there is a bit of a buzz going and that can't be a bad thing.

The new MLB commish really seems to be on board with Montreal getting the first shot, at getting a team back in the city!! Years later, and I am still pi$$ed with Selig and Loria...dirtbags.

Selig, Loria plus Paul Beeston who worked behind Expos management's back to rob them of their broadcasting rights in most communities across Canada. And f*** the Jays for voting in favor of contracting the Expos.

And to think that Selig's and Beeston's teams will be playing at the Owe in March. I'd go just to boo both teams.

Yes, I kind of forgot about the Beeston thing.....all rotten pricks. Nice to see the new Commish supporting the city now, by hopefully making this all right, soon...probably 2-3 years?

I never want to see MLB again in MTL, until the playing field is EQUAL with a league wide salary cap. What do you think is going to happen without one? expos are back and for the first year so are the fans but something happens in the second year as the expose can only win against other bad teams, because all the BIG cities can out spend the expose by a 200 million dollars for all the great players. It gets worse, even if the Expose have 3-4 great players, the first chance they get they will sign with the Yankees for HUGE money. Once the MTL fans realize they have NO CHANCE to win the attendance will drop like a rock to 3-4000 per game, and that looks real bad on TV.

It would help for sure but, the Astros won last year with one of the lowest payrolls. So anything is possible.

The very first thing that needs to happen after the Bronfman group is awarded a franchise is to seek redress from.MLB regarding the broadcast rights. The Jay's cannot expect to be a national team while the Expos are relegated to being a regional team. They are damn well going to have to share.

I saw the erosion of the Expos' broadcast footprint in real time. When TSN started showing games, they had a 50-50 split between the Jay's and Expos. But year after year they kept chipping away until it was practically 100% Jay's and just a few random Expos games. Same with radio. As a kid I remember that you could drive from Montreal to Toronto and listen to an Expos game the entire way because all these little towns in Ontario carried Expos games. When I was a kid living in Oshawa, the local AM station, CKAR, had all the Expos games. But eventually they became just another Jays station. The Expos' reach shrank to nothing and by the end you.couldnt watch or listen to games outside Quebec. That has to change when the Expos come back.

Fortunately today, there's more than one all sports network. Sportsnet is heavily invested in the Jays and TSN, while it might prefer Toronto, would nonetheless jump at the chance to have 162 dates worth of broadcast content. TSN has a lot less hockey than it used to (and will continue having less of it for the next decade, thanks to the Rogers deal with the NHL) and the Jays are also exclusive to Sportsnet. TSN only has regional hockey, no playoff hockey and CFL games. They should want to get in on the Expos action and quite frankly, they need it.
