Would you root for the Expos if they returned as a split squad with the Rays?

Money was leaving the city by '84. Why Bronfman put them for sale after '89 season. He was good businessman

In general by early '80s, Money in province was drying up. By '88 Nordiques were in dire straits. They were gone by '95. Expos officially gone '04. But in dire straits 15 years before that. Even fabled Habs were in dire straits when Gillette bought team. Alouettes folded several times. Total reversal from '60s and '70s

Montreal was still the largest Canadian city when the expos joined.

I agree that the politics caused a mass exodus of corporate money and also caused the loss of a key demographic. Toronto was the benefactor.

This was the primary factor for the team demise.

Was big drain of money out of province. Big reason no Nordiques, Expos and Gillette getting team at bargain basement price.

Duke Snyder, Dave Van Horne were fantastic!! Kenny Singelton got in there too for awhile....
Heartbreaking when we lost the Expos....................my wife said she thought someone in our family had passed away I was that bummed out....
Yes they were. The French side was also great with Doucet, Raymond and I didn't even mind Brulotte. I would switch every game the language of the game I was listening because I liked them all.

Former Expo Pete Rose. He was a hell of a ball player in '70s. For Big Red Machine then the Phillies. When I was growing up.
Meet him in Vegas about 10 years ago, really nice guy.

A Pete Rose memory is from 1980 World Series. Catching the ball that popped out of Bob Boone's glove in last game. It was big play.

Did I ever hate him then though. Expos was a hair from being in 1980 WS

Rose must been crazy about money to bet on baseball. Or awful dumb. Money he was making and future he had in baseball.

Even if not on own team, he had insider info. Ripped many people off.

Could tell something wrong with him way he played the game. Showed his demeanor at times. Sprinting to first on a walk, hitting Fosse in Allstar game, started brawl with Harrelson.

Pete Rose had a lot of issues outside of the betting, but you gotta love that, AFAIK, it’s never been disputed that when he bet on the Reds he always bet on them to win.

Just watched this. First hour is cool. All about the history of the team. The last 30 minutes is depressing and legit made me very sad.

Passan doesn’t rule out Montreal as a relocation spot for Rays if stadium deal falls through. I don’t see it as there isn’t a viable stadium location and group to build it.
