The CAQ want to grab most of the 870 million for themselves, their donors, their friends, and organized crime. No one cares about the stadium at this point, and most wouldn't set foot in it since pieces started falling off. An outgoing right wing government is going to be an orgy of corruption and the stadium will be a small chunk of it.

I figure now that the CAQ is looking less and less likely to be re-elected they're going to get while the getting's good. The 870 million to put a roof on a stadium no one wants is probably 800 million in thank yous to friends, donors, and business partners. "Oops, money's spent and the roof doesn't work, we'll let the incoming guys worry about it."
Considering how much MLB did to help the previous team leave, and to ensure the owners left with lots of money after putting up none of their own, I don't see them coming back. What does the stadium provide that's worth 870 million? What city couldn't build a new stadium, not just a roof, for 870 million? They wouldn't be floating such stuff if they though they could win, and they wouldn't be creating the mess if they expected to deal with the fallout.
The expos were fun, but the stadium has always been a disaster, and MLB in its current state is something that governments should be very leary of.

Growing up going to Parc Jarry brings back some great memories. That's where I got Rocket Richard's autograph. Best part of my childhood was going to this venue!

I was a Young Expo and went to 30 or 40 games. But I got Maurice,, Henri, and Yvan's autograph at a show in downtown Toronto. Got Beliveau's autograph at a show at Mohawk College in Hamilton.
OH hear we go again with baseball in MTL. Yes baseball is fun to watch, that is NOT the problem.
so? spend a billion to construct a stadium in downtown MTL, then go get some players but remember at the end of each year the MTL team will lose 2-3 of the best players because the team can NOT outbid the big 6 US teams to keep their own players. So the truth turns out to be, you buy tickets to see your team with only a 30% chance of winning the game every day of every year. As we saw with the Expos the fans dwindled down to 4-5 thousand per game because people are NOT STUPID when they see a FIXED GAME AGAINST THEM.

Expos had a good farm system at one time. Larry Walker and Randy Johnson both in it at same time
Tim Wallach, Gary Carter, Steve Rogers, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Warren Cromartie also come to mind.
Two more great players that I forgot. I use to roam Parc Jarry when Staub, Fairly, Bailey, Hunt, Marshall, Bateman, Stoneman, Jones use to play. Some of my most memorable moments as a kid was watching the Expos way back in the day.

Never went there but watched Duke Snider and Dave Van Horne every Wednesday night on CBC. They were very good.
Expos made so many terrible trades. Randy Johnson. If they had kept him. Can you imagine that '94 team?
Mike Marshall and Singleton for nothing also.
I remember Mike Marshall coming in from the bullpen and Ron Hunt getting hit by pitches. The true highlight of my Parc Jarry memory however was getting the Rocket's autograph! I was terrified of approaching him

Urban myth…. RJ was nothing more than a throw in for the Langston deal - Mariners were after the other two components Gene Harris & Brian Holman.
Langston had that 89 Expos team rolling and in 1st place in mid-Aug heading in to Shea Stadium to play the Mets. He was also about to sign a 3-year extension.

Randy Johnson was one of greatest pitcher of all time. Dominating. Won 5 Cy Youngs, finished 2nd 3 other times. Holds major league record for most career strikeouts by southpaw, second overall to only Nolan Ryan.
That was horrible trade for Expos. The '89 Expos were only little over .500 team. Ownership did trade because team was coming up for sale. Langston walked for nil. Pitched 3 months in Montreal

You’re looking through the prism of hindsight, USA Today didn’t even rank RJ highly as a prospect, when he came up in 1988 & 1989
When RJ joined the Expos in 1988 he couldn’t hit the strike zone to save his life, his pitches were erratic - he could barely make it 5-innings the following season when dealt in 1989 for Langston. RJ started to slowly become the HOF pitcher you referenced his 5th year post trade w Sea (1994 season) at the age of 29 - his first 4years he had an ERA hovering around 4 and giving up close to a hit per inning pitched and walking way too many batters
Make no doubt Sea wasn’t even interested in RJ back in 1989, Dombrowski forced him on them because he didn’t want to deal other prospects in the system. Gene Harris was the prime target teams were drooling over his potential as a stopper, and Brian Holman as the thinking man’s pitcher
Just as Expos could’ve had an erratic throwing & arm issue Nolan Ryan in a Donn Clendenon deal in 1969, RJ was in a similar situation.
Hindsight isn’t the best way to view the reality of a given time period…
Also, Langston was a weekend away from signing a 3-year extension, the Sunday double header vs Mets @ Shea ruined the season.
At that point Bronfman had no intention on selling the team, after the collapse in late Aug & Sept, lack of fans, and the huge local cable TV contracts handed out by FOX sports that offseason, Bronfman came to realize Mtl simply couldn’t compete w media revenue intake of US teams & ensuing rise in $alaries
