Yeah what is the point of having a sports science department if they are being ignored by the coaching staff.

It's just mind boggling that even if Maurice knows the players don't have much in the tank he rides them hard anyways. Just dumb roster management.

Do we have a sports science department any more? It’s my understanding that the Jets director of high performance Dr. Slaunwhite has left the organization and is now with the Sacramento Kings. Has a replacement been hired?

He is an excellent public speaker and sales man but that doesn't neccessarily mean he's highly intelligent.

I see way too much in the way of him disregarding data and stubbornness for me to buy that he's a very smart person. Just my opinion.

I think he's smart enough for the NHL he started out in. Not sure he's smart enough or adaptable enough for where the league and the sport are likely headed.

I agree that he's a charismatic speaker with a nice line in dry wit. So, I believe, was Claude Noel. If the NHL were an after-dinner speaker series and not a professional hockey league the Jets 2.0 would already be an absolutely legendary franchise.

Somewhere nice
At last we witness Patty's evolution into the low-scoring power forward "who can blow a guy up" that PoMo has always longed for! Take that Ron Francis! Hard on the boards! Hard on the boards!

Next up, the all-new Netfront Nik Ehlers!

Haizzzzzz

:(

How to turn a generational goal scorer into 2way player. Oh i mean power forward . Which ever one that Maurice envision him to be.

Goal scorers like Laine dont come often.

The guy is buying in let him lose already.

(Sometimes we want our kids to be something we want them to be, but not what they are good at.)

Also Ehlers , this guy would be a top line heavy minute forward in many (practically almost all) teams.

That Maurice quote is just mindblowing. Does he not see what he is doing? Does he think that Ehlers, Laine Roslovic, Little (who was injured), can't play the game?

He's alienating players with this incredibly stupid and stubborn playing distribution. Who else on the team gets 16 games to 'find their game'? Who else gets to play badly and go out for most of OT, to the point of needing a rest with a timeout, while the rest of the roster sits and watches?

I just find no way to justify his practices anymore.

Truth be told, the alienation you are referring to has been going on for years now, and was likely the cause of the rift in the dressing room last year. That rift has not healed and will reopen this season due to completely inept coaching. It is so obvious and beyond insanity.

In Friedman’s 31 thoughts the dressing room came up in the Byfuglien topic, so if players around the league are aware of it ..interesting but it didn’t link it to coaches just that there was a rift.
I think indications are likely it’s coaching and usage.
Just my opinion.

Makes me sick...

This is the tradeoff for modest defensive gains. Our offense is awful, how our coach can take the talent upfront on this team and decrease our offensive impact in each of the last two years is mind boggling. How we have a management team that deems this acceptable and allows it to continue is also a real head scratcher.

Serious question what modest defensive gains?

Seven of the first eight games we gave up 4 goals or more. Since then it’s happened once. Now yes a lot of that is Hellebuyck. But we have tightened up a bit.
Ah ok I didn’t connect the dots.
Thanks Duke

We also aren't bleeding scoring chances at the same rate. Net impact is still a team that by and large loses the XGF battle as we generate nothing.

Maurice is trying to win ugly with a roster that isn't designed to win that way. If we keep playing like this the team is going to fall off once goaltending cools down a bit.

It's something that's kind of weird to me in the numbers so far this year. xG Models have us as like bottom 3 for defense but by Micah's model we don't look bad.

Either way not worth the horrendous offensive showing so far haha.

I just went and checked the scores. Those first two weeks were ugly but they’ve settled down quick. If this team can somehow find some offense while playing decent defense and Helly has a strong year, we can make the playoffs. Now whether that’s to our long term benefit or not is another question. But I think this group would be highly motivated if it happened though.

Correct assessment but it doesn't excuse the fact that literally nobody on this team drives the middle lane and goes to the net. Playing more conservatively defensively with the forward group, and lacking sufficient enough puck movers on the back end has hurt higher danger chances off the rush, but the fact pretty much nothing happens off the cycle within 6 feet of the net is pathetic. They've had a few deflections lately but next to no rebound chances and shots that go in directly from a screen. Team doesn't go to the dirty areas.

Yeah no clue why our players are all on the perimeter all the time.

They just don't play to get second chances on offense, as soon as there's a 50/50 puck the whole team backs off to try and be set for defense.

It's interesting and annoying cause at the start of the season it sounded like they wanted to try and be aggressive in certain spots to create turnovers but at this point the opposite is what we're seeing.

There are a number of times PoMo reminds me of Jim Toth on the BS on 1290.

Maurice says he’s wanted to get a look at Scheifele between Connor and Laine for some time.

Injuries are dictating lineup changes, not any intelligence on the coaches part.
