Another pretty good game by Galchenyuk. This guy is a keeper. The points aren't there yet but the scoring chances, effort on both ends is just phenomenal.

When we traded for him, I didn't really expect much. Now it's hard to see him out of that spot he's playing on.

Galchenyuk may have been the best player on his line today.... not bad considering the guys he's playing with.

Was kind of thinking this...

Personally, I'm getting a little bit tired of the John Tavares-William Nylander pair. These guys have been blanked in 4 of the last 5 games, and are nowhere near the threat they should be with $18m on the ice.

I know it's hard to argue with wins, but this team was most dangerous when they had 2 lines that were impossible to defend against -- Hyman-Tavares-Marner, and Matthews on his own line.

If you're not going to put Marner with Tavares to get him going, then I think consideration has to be made towards breaking up Nylander and Tavares and having 3 truly dangerous lines. Leave Galchenyuk with Tavares and put a guy like Simmonds with them. Gally has the skill to put up big numbers if used in that capacity.

You're very correct. The Leafs were the most dangerous when they had 2 lines that were 'impossible' to defend against....
only the danger was often was going into their own net.

This season, Tavares has been a 'minus' player 5 times. This season he's been on the ice for 13 goals against. Matthews, who's improved his own game has more than twice that amount.
When he was playing pond-hockey with Marner, he was on the ice for 74 goals against. There's a big difference.
Come the playoffs when teams really focus on defense, this pond hockey dried up. He was on for 4 goals for and 9 goals against.

We are a much better defensive team, and Tavares and Nylander are a very good defensive pair.

I thought he had a good game and was engaged. Hit the post while beating Hellebuyck clean and was standing up when challenged.

Team is winning and Keefe is trusting his line. If we see the driving Nylander of last year, this line could be a real problem for the opposition.

I hope he doesn't score this weekend against the Flames and instead pots his 1st as a Leaf vs the Montreal Canadiens next Wednesday. The stories will write themselves. :sarcasm:

Liked his game tonight. Obviously could've been better but had some chances and he does so many little skill things that show you why he went 3rd overall. Nice chem with Willy too.

Keep it going. 2nd line is atleast watchable now.

I've been thinking that too. There is just not much threat of a shot on our PP right now which is crazy considering the players we have.

Galchenyuk can rip it. Award the good play with some chance to play on PP1..can't hurt, we're already 0-25 now.

They’re giving him zero PP time and never gets a sniff of overtime. Given the way he’s been working his ass off makes me wonder what one has to do to earn more minutes. He has to have earned more than Thornton at this point

Id like to see Marner-Matthews-Galchenyuk for 1 period or so. Hyman is great on that line but it might be interesting to see the room Gally gets on that line with Marner feeding him pucks. Marner can get anyone going. Galchenyuk was an excellent pickup even if Gally ends up on the 3rd line during the playoffs its still a win.

nice to see him rewarded for his hard work.

If he's smart he'll be on Hyman's hip trying to learn as much as possible to keep that wing spot with Tavares and Nylander. Be that heart and soul grind it out guy that line needs.

At what point does he become a player you protect in the expansion draft? Or do you let him go UFA and hope no one signs him
