If I had to bet which one of Galchenyuk and Korshkov was going to play more NHL games from this point forward, that is a very easy bet on GalchenyukI don't see him coming over here and putting in 12 years of above .50 ppg. Gally has a few knocked off. You make this trade. So good point.
He should be on PP1 in place of Simmonds.
It’s undeniable.
Agreed. Nothing to loseI've been thinking that too. There is just not much threat of a shot on our PP right now which is crazy considering the players we have.
Galchenyuk can rip it. Award the good play with some chance to play on PP1..can't hurt, we're already 0-25 now.
Galchenyuk may have been the best player on his line today.... not bad considering the guys he's playing with.
Was kind of thinking this...
Personally, I'm getting a little bit tired of the John Tavares-William Nylander pair. These guys have been blanked in 4 of the last 5 games, and are nowhere near the threat they should be with $18m on the ice.
I know it's hard to argue with wins, but this team was most dangerous when they had 2 lines that were impossible to defend against -- Hyman-Tavares-Marner, and Matthews on his own line.
If you're not going to put Marner with Tavares to get him going, then I think consideration has to be made towards breaking up Nylander and Tavares and having 3 truly dangerous lines. Leave Galchenyuk with Tavares and put a guy like Simmonds with them. Gally has the skill to put up big numbers if used in that capacity.
We are a much better defensive team, and Tavares and Nylander are a very good defensive pair. You're very correct. The Leafs were the most dangerous when they had 2 lines that were 'impossible' to defend against....
only the danger was often was going into their own net.
This season, Tavares has been a 'minus' player 5 times. This season he's been on the ice for 13 goals against. Matthews, who's improved his own game has more than twice that amount.
When he was playing pond-hockey with Marner, he was on the ice for 74 goals against. There's a big difference.
Come the playoffs when teams really focus on defense, this pond hockey dried up. He was on for 4 goals for and 9 goals against.
