it's amazing seeing this tweet and then looking up that he's still a <.900 on the season. Absolutely nuts

He was pretty bad to start the year. Like really bad.

Better to be trending upwards than downwards though. Last season he started off bad and then took off during our 16 game win streak and never really looked back. Hopefully he can keep it going this year too.

.950 is usually good… Unless you’re Stuart Skinner.

Yep. He could toss 30 shutouts in a row and then have one bad game and people would lynch him
Truth.

I just hope it doesn’t seep into the playoffs again. Where we need everyone pulling on the same rope.

There ain’t no analytics for the 7th man effect. But i would think that Oilers fans would know all about it.

No need to " pad the stats" when they're this far ahead of every flames player ;)View attachment 950157

JFC they must be atrocious 5v5, what are those +/- numbers? Good God. 😂 How do they win games?

Their entire top 6 and top 4 D are heavy minus players, damn. Wtf.

Meanwhile our entire team is pluses except for Skinner, Kapanen who collected most of his dashes with the blues, and Ryan who is over the hill and plays hard defensive minutes only.

My mistake, you're right, Nick Cousin's is just unbeatable on breakaways.

On an unrelated note - Since 2014 Nick Cousins is 0 for 5 on shootout attempts.
If you are going to discredit a Nick Cousin’s shot.

Shouldn’t you credit a Sam Reinhart shot that was literally placed as perfectly as possible in that FLA game?

Usually 1GAA is also. Cause that’s what really counts. Actual Goals Against trumps all xGA, save percentage and all that shit. Cause actual goals against is what wins or loses games.

Put it another way,

If you got Sheshterkin in net, but shit defence, and shit coaching and your GA/game is 4.

Or

If you got Skinner in net, but elite defence and and elite coaching, and your GA/game is 3.

Which would you rather have? First one gives you bragging rights over having an elite goalie. Second one gives you an actual better team with a better chance at the Cup.

Gonna watch the game soon and give my thoughts. But glad to see Arvie awarded tonight on the stat sheet. I thought he had a good game against the Sharks too. Was surprised to see so much negativity regarding him after last game. Was he promoted to the Top line with McD tonight? Makes sense to me if he was.

Said to someone I don’t worry about a player until the chances dry up. So while the production hasn’t been there, there’s still a lot to like about his game. He was really buzzing with Drai too before injury. Dude can generate offence like a Top 6er. He can cycle and hold pucks with speed. He knows how to get open for shots. His passing and vision is good. He can work with and work off other skilled players. If he can stay healthy, which is a legitimate concern, I bet he pops off in a big way for us.

I think you miss why Skinner is criticized- it’s because the lack of consistency. Of he got 30 shutouts in a row- he would be consistent- and oilers fans would have no problem with him.

Calvin Pickard is also .915 save percentage since Oct. 17th (basically if you wipe out the first two games of the season).

This is more about our defensive structure that doesn't give up much aside from some Bouchard brain farts.

Both of our goalie's live charmed lives.

I don't think the Oilers played well in this one by any stretch of the imagination(don't think they've been playing all that well for a few games actually), thankfully Ottawa was much worse. I was almost frustrated on behalf of the Senators with how bad they were at exiting their own zone with possession, the Oilers really should have won this game by 5+ goals considering how many times Ottawa got intercepted and stripped trying to get past their own blueline, that defense just straight up wilts under the slightest forechecking pressure.

Even when they started to play with more desperation in the final 10 minutes, they mostly resorted to attempting hero plays where one guy tries to go through 3 Oiler defenders. One of the easier nights Skinner has had in a while for sure, even when the Sens would cobble together some offensive pressure, they'd miss by miles.
I agree with this. The last few games have been sloppy.
The puck management in this game (especially the first half of the game) was absolutely brutal.
Bouchard had 4 bad giveaways in the first 10 minutes of the game.

When you couple the above with the loosey goosey offensive puck decisions it adds up to a style that isnt winning much of anything long term. Thankfully the opposition has been worse the last few games.

Hopefully a few practices during the break will help them dial back in a bit.

Bouchard is locked in on tanking his extension value, which so long as the team has a decent enough record isn't the worst thing in the world for us, lol. He better cut that shit out by the late season/playoffs though.

Arvidsson should stay with McDavid and Hyman for a bit. Knob is being a stubborn ass not letting anyone else have any McDavid time and it's not good for the team overall.

We've spent a lot of money on these players, let them get an easy goal or two and get going.

Defensively a very smart coach (either that or Coffey is really doing the heavy lifting), but offensively not the brightest bulb in the pack.

Even if you don't like Arvidsson or Skinner the best thing we can do is juice their stats a bit so that we can move them out.

3 Henrique backhand snipe attempts robbed now in a row lol. Great poise and pass by Brown too, imagine if he rediscovers his Top 6 game.

Hyman elbow. Yep. f***in love that. Obviously out of frustration, and it cost us, but I still love it. Now Drai and McD need to learn some of that dirt too. Cause that will be needed in the playoffs.

Reports of JSkinner unwilling to change his game or play defence, are premature. Blocks a shot tonight. Battled hard on the back check in San Jose. This guy is battling out there to climb back up the line up. Will it be enough with his lack of foot speed and size? Maybe not. Will he be good enough defensively to stick in the bottom 6? Maybe not. But I’m optimistic, and I’m gonna go ahead and say he does it.

JFC Bouch. I love when Bouch does his signature dangle around a player. But you don’t try that shit when you’re the last man back at your own blue line though.

Obviously Skinners fault though. Can’t wait for Knob to give it to him on that play… ;)

Best Corey Perry shift I’ve ever seen in an Oilers jersey in 2nd. Is it possible to find another level at 39.

JSkinner clearly in snake bitten territory this year. What a set up by Perry. Great save by Not Ullmark.

Nice to see Rico get one. Maybe try more forehand snipes over backhand lol.

Connor Brown having a strong game.

Love that Arvidsson got moved up the lineup with RNH out and then went out and scored. Would not have gotten that result from Skinner.

Knob knows.
