I think an HFOil poster is running the chyron for Sportsnet. When they interviewed Skinner, they put up that he had an .895 SV% tonight.
They weren't counting the 15 pushes at net that weren't even shots. lol. jk aside though there were 5 pucks that just squibbed to the net, a few wouldn't have crossed the line, 5 more were pt shots and I've learned that Skinner is making a "great save" every shot from the point, unscreened where it just sifts directly into the logo. This was as easy a 1 goal game as you can get in this league.

The most dangerous sens chances other than the one goal were either missed shots or blocked shots. Sens mounted very little in 57mins of this game.

Hey there was that one chance that Kulak blocked, and that other chance that Ekholm blocked, and that other chance that Henrique blocked...

You know what, never mind.

You say the Oilers didn’t play well but in the same paragraph say Ottawa couldn’t get out of their own zone without getting stripped or intercepted. The Sens were one of the hottest teams in the league and the Oilers completely shut them down. That’s a good game.
I didn't say they played a bad or poor game, and was alluding more to that they haven't been playing up to their potential as a team over the last bit. We've seen a much better Oiler team execution wise than what they showed tonight, their passing was really off, Mcdavid/Drai were rather quiet, and they had no pace to their game on the powerplay.

It's also reasonable to say that the Oilers were good on the forecheck and Ottawa was bad in their own zone, both were true in this game. I was mostly focusing on Ottawa's poor defensive play and lack of poise under pressure because of how glaring it was, made all the more noticeable given they were one of the hottest teams in the NHL before this game,

xGF of 2.19 for the Sens and 9 HDSC.

You could just say he had a good game.

lol what source is saying the Sens had 9HDSC tonight? They didn't have 9uncontested legitimate shots from scoring range tonight. Half of what the Sens had tonight was sifting the puck in from anywhere. In last 5mins looked like they were trying to get some Eakins level Corsi results. Skins had maybe 2 toughstops. It was another impeccable night of 200ft play from the Oilers tonight. Sens had trouble even getting in our zone most of the game.

You're aware that the only team in the league with an average of close to 9 HDSCA/60 is the Oilers, right?

Again - Sutter's cup winning teams were around 9.5 HDSCA/60.

Also - a chance can be a HDSCA and contribute to xGA even if it's blocked or deflected away from the net.

Home Cookin'

Strong team defending game except for one casual Bouchard play as last man back. Hyman with another high engine game to lead this team. A couple of Christmas stocking stuffers for goalless guys Arvy and Henrique.

Oil have shown alot through this extended homestead. Some really good adversity in the Boston game and unexpectedly San Jose with a locked-in goaltender. Tonight's game they seemed in control the whole game. Thought they minimized high danger situations. Fairly low event game in which they looked composed and certain in defending against a hot opponent.

Great to see them cook through this December home stretch of top opposition. Home record is looking respectable again.

And if he let in more than one goal you'd write up an essay on how he was bad despite winning the game.

Hell you tried to twist yourself into a pretzel on the one he did let in. Good Lord.

My mistake, you're right, Nick Cousin's is just unbeatable on breakaways.

On an unrelated note - Since 2014 Nick Cousins is 0 for 5 on shootout attempts.

Right, and he has... oh, 5 goals this year? Hmm, interesting. Guess he can score.

Just laughable. No blame for Bouchard completely f***ing up the play, just blame the goalie on literally every goal that's scored on him. How on Earth could he possibly have scored from...

Can you breakdown and explain the stats please?

Natural Stat Trick does a pretty good job.

Any attempt that's 2 or higher is a scoring chance. 3 or higher is a high danger scoring chance. The other numbers are based on league average shooting from that position, this changes slightly year over year.

So for example - the Tkachuk change that was blocked by Kulak would be assigned a value of 3+1+1-1 = 4 based on location + Rebound + time since last event, and then being blocked.

It never had a chance to beat Skinner, but it's still a HDSC and it still counts when calculating expected goals.

..Oh, the slot.

Bouchard was ass there.

Difference is Bouchard bested Makar's modern record for Best playoffs by a defenseman last year and Skinner set a record for lowest save percentage ever recorded in a series victory since the NHL started recording save percentages.

One guy gets and deserves some rope - the other doesn't.
