FWIW I never got the "omg they aren't even singing the anthem" outrage, as if we've ever seen Connor McDavid belting out "O Canada" during pregame.
Cause that wasnt what it was about. It was an excuse for those ______ to bitch about a team whose politics (ie decency) they didnt agree with .

Two games is fair punishment imo.
To my eye, she didnt stomp on her. She fairly lightly put her foot on her.
Seems a bit excessive to me. Particularly since the initial act , a fake dive/barrell role, was the precipitating event.

I figured that would be reversed. Probably determined it was more shoulder than back for the initial point of contact and the player went down easily.

Obviously an easier take to have since I have no skin in this game.

Great opening half by Sweden. They were all over Japan. I just wonder if they can keep that energy level up for another half.

Sweden is playing much better now. I am surprised how stifled Japan is. They looked like they had separated themselves from the pack. Such an unexpected pace to this game.

If it’s true Japan changed their approach to be defensive against Sweden from the start then I will seriously wonder why any coach would reign in the offensive prowess of Japan. Their defense is pretty good. Why play so defensive when you’re good on both ends. Bizarre.

Sweden hung on for dear life. Well deserved victory. What an entertaining game.

F***! Too little too late for Japan. Sweden hangs on 2-1. Can't believe it took them 70 mintues to start pressuring. Was Sweden getting tired? Anyhow good luck to any Swedes on here. Gg

You have to set a strong precedent. You can't have it in players minds that it's not a big deal to intentionally to step on someone for any reason with any force.
Maybe the NFL will pick up on that idea? Is that Suh guy still playing?

I remember him backing up to step on Aaron Rodger's leg after a completion. He also did that to at least one other NFL player.

Both of those games were amazing. The Women's game is finding its stride in an exciting way.
Agreed. The general skill level and technical ability in the women’s game is light years ahead of where it was, even just 10-15 years ago, particularly with the very top tier nations.

Always nice when a new team emerges as the "top dogs" so to speak.

Spain, Sweden, England/Colombia, Australia/France

Would be pretty cool to see the Lionesses finally succeed where the men's side has failed so many times over the years, but Colombia's definitely no slouch.

Not even sure who the frontrunners are at this point.
