I will start by saying that before this season I thought that Torts did a good job of getting a lot out of your players and doing the right things to motivate guys to get the most out of them..... However, when this season started I was hoping he would make some adjustments to his system just for the fact that a DYNAMIC top player in the league in Rick Nash had been inserted.

but, this has not happened.... The powerplay is still AWFUL. There is no way with the names on this roster that you can excuse this, yet he hasn't done anything to try and resolve this.

It seems as though this team doesn't practice any kind of passing or transition work in practice. They really struggle trying to make things happen on offense and Richards and Gaborik really haven't looked great a lot of this season.

I don't know how this team can be so inconsistent this year... I don't know if Torts message is being lost among the players, but the whole team just isn't playing smooth at all. I don't want people to say anything about a training camp. Every team had barely any camp and when I watch other games it seems every other team makes it a lot easier to make things happen in the offensive zone.....

This system sucks and Torts is just too stubborn to do anything about it.

I still feel this team is only going to finish as a 7th or 8th seed.
This !!!
How do you expect the team to be any good at transition hockey and skating though the neutral zone if they only practice the dump in get numbers cycle game.
Torts the one trick circus pony .
1 missed PO
2 out in 1
One HUGE LOSS TO NJD IN ECF.....
He's done nothing . The young players people clamor about HIM developing are doing so in spite of him . Red Berenson developed Hagelin not necessarily Torts . Same can be said for mcD and Step at Wisconsin etc etc . Wake up this guy blows

i've been saying this for a while. its not even just the top teams. average teams just do things so much better than the rangers such as completing passes and transitioning without looking like a train wreck.

the rangers are so sloppy. they've had this problem for years. so many plays are ruined by bad passes that are either in the skates of players or 3 feet ahead of them. and then half the time when they receive the pass it either bounces over the stick or hits the stick and flies off. torts needs to pull a gordon bombay and make them pass with eggs.
Torts the clown discourages actual passing and prefers long hard passes deflected I order to negate icing and dump and chase . How is the team supposed to be sharp at passing to each other when their set plays revolve around not passing tape to tape but hard slap passes guys are deflected at center ice

It would be something if Sather pulls off a ballsy move and fires Torts and hires Ruff if we don't see improvement over the next 10 games. The PP by itself is grounds for firing.

who needs passing we have jam

Yeah, it would be stupid and regrettable to knee-jerk fire a coach because the team is only in 8th place a quarter of the way into a short season.

I'd still love to see an explanation as to why people are so sure that the coaching is the problem and it's not that key players are struggling to play at their highest level. I haven't heard one logical explanation for that yet. All it is is "torts sucks, fire him." Prove it.

When this team is playing poorly I see players making dumb mistakes left and right. I don't see a broken system.

I see a lazy team that barely forechecks, is afraid to make mistakes, and doesn't play with any heart. Not to mention he has no trust in our young players. Kreider makes 1 mistake and he sits the bench. He needs to find his game and he can't do that without TOI. I don't want him fired but he's so stubborn it's infuriating.

Afraid to make mistakes? They make mistakes constantly - errant passes have been the theme this year. Further, I can't remember one time, ever, that any player was reprimanded in any way for making a smart, creative play, or attempting to make one and making an innocent mistake. The type of play that has cost people TOI has been justified in my opinion. Richards' passes to nobody, Boyle skating around without any hustle, Gaborik floating etc.

Kreider isn't "our young players," he's one player who hasn't shown very much of anything yet. Other young players on the team: McD, DZ, Stepan, Hagelin, etc., he has a ton of trust in because they've shown that they deserve it. Kreider was going to be a scratch last night and he ended up with around 15 minutes of ice time, with which he did very little. He needs to find his game in the AHL and then come up here after that.

In pro sports they can't trade the whole team , can't send whole team to the minors . They Can and do fire head coaches .
30 th PP in league slightly above 500 record with top goalie in the league to me is getting pretty close to being time for a coaching change .
Team on most nights looks lost . They have lost any feel for how to play , and fail to execute .lets not forget the record number of too many men on the ice penalties . Lockout is over and in the next two weeks it's make or break as the separation is already starting . NYR best player hurt and two places NYR don't care very well coming up . If Torts can't get the team to perform and find some kind of game he should be considered for a canning before its too late .

The team has been riddled with injuries and struggles during these constant shakeups.

TRADE EVERYONE AND FIRE THE HEAD COACH!

6-3-1 in their last ten? Why, that's practically Bluejacket territory!

Don't forget:

The team is full of underperforming players who can't string nice passes together?

MAKE THEM PLAY A MORE COMPLICATED SYSTEM THAT DEPENDS ON CRISP PASSING

I'm going to compromise with everyone.

Yes, Torts can be an insufferable stubborn **** who refuses to adapt to changing games.

Yes, the team can never fully click and a handful of players always seem to have their attention elsewhere.

Yes, it's a shortened season.

Yes, this was supposed to be our year.

Despite all of that, we have been trending upwards and are just outside of a playoff spot a whopping 15 games into our season. Let it all click. It will click. It just won't be instantaneous. These are the New York Rangers. No one said it'd be easy. It's never ****ing easy with this team.

Very well put.

I find it hysterical that he calls out everyone by name to the press except Gabby.

"We need primary scoring... Callahan, Richards and some others..."

Gabby should change the name on his jersey to "Someothers"

Our last game we looked pretty poor. It was a boring game from both teams. The Washington game was probably the most dominant I've seen this team in a while even though the score was only 2-1. Before that game we were averaging ~4 goals a game in the previous 3 or 4. We had a bad game, it happens. This board gets so crazy after one loss.

I'm getting "bored" of Tortorella's system too. Watching teams play exciting hockey makes me want the Rangers to do that, but firing Torts right now is not the answer.

And you don't fire an accomplished coach off a knee jerk reaction from losing a game against a hot team in possibly the slowest paced hockey game in NHL history.

He's accomplished nothing here . The culture which supposedly changed still seems same to me this season by and large . The GM has plenty to blame as well . When NY next month is still on the outside looking in on the PO how will everyone feel about Torts then .

Now you're just assuming which is worth about as much as mine. When this team is on the inside and looking up, how will everyone feel about Torts then?

we arent good enough to have kreider in the AHL

remember we werent good enough last year?

who is gonna play?
more goons more no talent guys with "jam"?

how can one prove it?

i see a non attacking team, more concerned with blocking shots than scoring goals..

we allow teams to setup shop and bomb away on us.. on purpose and hope to block as many shots as possible

You can prove it by stating a logical argument for why it's true. I've offered an argument for why I think a lot of it is on the players in past comments on this thread. To sum up some of those ideas: The players are making dumb mistakes up and down the lines. Torts isn't telling them to make dumb passes to the other team or to not backcheck as hard as they can. "The system" isn't holding them back from playing some puck possession game because they haven't shown themselves to be capable of playing that game. The same coach coached the same core players with the same strategy to an absurdly successful season last year.

I really don't see a team sitting there waiting to block shots when I watch this team play. That's the description of NYR that I hear from other teams' fanbases. It's a caricature of what they actually do. Why are the D pinching so much if they're more concerned with blocking shots than scoring? Why is NYR tenth in the league in shots/game if they never attack and just block shots all day? Let's be real here. No team plays that way. It's a sensationalized description of the Rangers based on popular opinion about them and people's frustration with their current struggles. This team is struggling to find a strategy that meshes with the new lineup while also trying to deal with some big names underperforming. It's going to take a while for them to get into gear.

People were saying the same things last year when the team started slow. Fire Torts. The system is stupid. It's holding everyone back. Good think Sather didn't listen.

This board never ceases to amaze. Thanks for the sanity Bob. The rest of you, keep taking your meds.
