i think the boys overachieved a bit last season. it's a good team and developing. but there will be some pitfalls and this is one of them right now. i'd stick with torts and plough forward. i believe in this team. they just need to come together. might be next year.

I approve, hes an excellent coach and gets the most out of his players.. His system isn't dump and chance.. they play to the strength of their team which is playing below the hash marks and cycle and get the puck to the net, also d trys to pitch in and get in the lanes for shots... if its dump and chance, how come nash skates with the puck and drives the puck to the net? come on guys.. Last night was the first time i;ve seen in a while he kept all 4 lines the same.. I don't think it was a terrible game on the rangers, thought they out played the Canadians but it was ugly in the sense it was boring... Canadians played a trap entire game and look how many icings there were, you can't get in a groove with them constantly icing the puck..

Kreider to me doesn't have the killer instinct like he did when he first came up (playoffs/after injury this year), deff needs to skate harder, but he should be up bc he has the skill forsure..

Miller i think makes mistakes but has been playing good and will only improve.. Remember coaches look at the little things they do right then stats like us fans doo..

Stepan has been playing great, awesome two way game and playing the way he should.. production will come but its not a one man pony show out there, he needs help and hagelin has been playing like a man possessed...

Gab/richards=enough said...

Nash..been playing great forsure..hope the injury isn't serious, but more of a precaution..

Back to Torts though, we dont know what happens behind close doors and 2nd he's a great leader and developed a lot of our young core to the levels they are at now and will only improve.. I think he took a lot of guys that nobody wanted (Stralman, Boyle, Mitchell, Prust ) all to levels they weren't playing at with other coaches/organizations, and he has to be commended for that.. Sauer is deff missed hardcore, wish he were back but overall the young guys are going to make mistakes but torts holds everyone accountable which I LOVE, its missed in a lot of pro sports and he isn't afraid to call them out.. team 6-3-1 in last 10 so lets calm down and watch how the season goes on...

W/o nash

Kreider-Richards- Callahan
Hagelin- Stepan- Gaborik
Pyatt- Boyle - Miller
Mash- Halpern -Asham

W/ nash i want to see..

Nash- Richards- Palmieri (played with kovy has a good shot/hawk around net)
Hagelin- Stepan- Gaborik
Kreider- Miller- Callahan
Mash- Boyle - Pyatt

The beautiful system at work. Five guys below the dot in the faceoff circle.

What ever happened to "Safe is death." The only reason why that was supposedly dropped in the past was because the Rangers didn't have the personnel to employ such a system. The defense wasn't that great and they didn't have many good offensive forwards. Now the Rangers have one of the deepest defenses in the league, the best goalie in the world, and an offense with three stars and quite a few very good players and yet they still play extremely safe.

/thread.

its all players accountability and noone has the drive they had last year.. they dont have the energy maybe theyre not in game shape yet... you could skate all you want in practice but its hard to transition it to games if you havent played a lot.. I think these new guys have big shoes to fill, prust/feds/dubi/aa all we're a huge part of how we played and its time for the new guys to provide the same thing..

Exactly how do you transition or force any odd man rushes in Torts the clowns 6 goalie circus

Exactly this. Plus, with everyone being in the middle of the ice, it never allows them to win any races to the puck if it goes to the walls, which in turns, pins us in our zone for shifts at a time.

This might not be a popular opinion but i still think this could be our year.. If Callahan, Richards get even remotely hot at some point and the Stephan, Hagelin, Nash line continue to click we will have great scoring, Hank will do his part and we go deeeeeeep in the PO's

:handclap::handclap:

and ohh, Torts will be reviewed as a genius and a hero

let's take a screen shot of a defensive breakdown then claim this is how the coach wants them to play!! rabble rabble rabble

This is not a breakdown . This is a classic example of te NYR pack the house / the box defense .

Under what circumstances does Torts get fired this year, if any?

I'd say only a MONUMENTAL collapse, does it. I don't want him fired (yet), but I don't know how much more of this farce of a PP and dump and chase BS I can take.

Right now I believe it a combination of the players under performing and the system making it difficult to get any real offense going.

We appear to be the least creative team in the league. It's disgusting.

The one thing I'll say is that after last night's Rangers/Habs game, I flipped on the Sharks/Blues game and those teams looked like they were just flying out there. Unbelievable, night and day.

Is that a screenshot of what occurred right before MTL's first goal, with the blown icing goal? Not exactly the best example of a coaching failure on that goal...

BTW, here are PP rankings for Torts over his head coaching career
12-13: 30 - 10.9%
11-12: 23 - 15.7%
10-11: 18 - 16.9%
09-10: 13 - 18.3%

07-08: 05 - 19.3%
06-07: 09 - 18.4%
05-06: 23 - 16.7%
03-04: 16 - 16.2%
02-03: 10 - 17.5%
01-02: 20 - 14.7%
00-01: 29 - 12.5%

Eleven seasons
Three times top 10
Seven times bottom 15

Guy needs to hire a PP specialist badly.

Fire sullivan.

Is it even Sullivan who coaches the PP? No one has ever truly confirmed this.

I should probably take the 00-01 season out since he came in half way through the season.

I Sent a tweet to Cerny a week or so back. He confirmed that Sullivan runs the power play

Some games the coaching is at fault, but im not sure last night was one of them. Tough to blame the dump and chase philosophy in a game in which some players would repeatedly carry the puck over the blue line only to make an errant pass to a linemate or mishandle the puck. Richards did this multiple times last night as did Del Zotto and Gaborik.

As I mentioned in the GDT, I think failure to execute is what stood out most. The Rangers tried to be aggressive with Staal joining in the rush and it ended up with a goal against. Except for Hags, the players weren't doing much of anything right last night.

Thank you!

Anyone who's hating on Tort's strategy have an answer for this?
