Absolutely disapprove. Cup contender - last in the league in Powerplay %. Sorry, but right there that is an excuse for a new coach. Whomever is a part of the powerplay coaching should be fired.

I know we are all angry, but lets attempt to have a legitimate discussion about this. I don't want this thread turning into the last few posts.

I give him..one more loss before the media starts speculating that his job is in jeopardy.

I used to pray for good things . I used to ask the Hockey Gods for puck luck for the NYR .
Now all I want is Torts the smug stupid goatee clown to be fired , . I hate Torts . Please hockey gods make him get fired. Please Sean punch him in face

:laugh::laugh:

So good man.

It was 70-30 before the last two losses. With the loss on saturday his approval rating's gonna plummet

Boston won the 2011 while being worse on the PP than we ever were. I am ready to overlook the PP disaster if many other things are going well. I still approve of Torts, if the team is playing below par and maintaining playoff entry, is that something is going quite well. Another good streak is around the corner.

He manages to squeeze the most out of his players, but he also sacrifices the top end talent for a team grinding system. He got it to work last year, but theres newer personnel this year more suited for an open skill game. He needs to adjust. Hes not getting anything this year from anyone.

That is a bit of an overstatement, Lundqvist, Nash, Stepan, Hagelin and Staal have been playing really well lately. Over the course of the year, I don't have much to say against Girardi, Gaborik and Callahan either. We are 4 points behind the Pens with a game in hand. This is not yet the disaster people have been describing.

Well, all I know is that the Rangers at one time seemed like they could beat the Penguins. That whole thing evaporated, they don't believe they can beat the Pengies, so, logically, they do not.

The history with Les Habitants goes back much further, and I speak of the history of screwing themselves almost every single time, not that the Habs do not deserve to win, just that the Rangers eff up against them, and the puck is in the net.

Once again, I will watch against the Habs and believe that the Rangers can do it. It ain't over til it's over.
It's always Groundhog Day for this Rangers fan.

How long have we been playing the squirts in Montreal? I know we never dominated but I don't recall Montreal being so dominant. I still think Montreal is in Lundy's head ever since giving up that 5-0 lead.

Best way to resolve that. Beat the **** out of Montreal! No, I mean outhit them, fight them, make Subban turtle like the little ***** that he is. Rip a page straight out of Toronto's playbook and copy everything, VERBATIM!

Don't see how you can blame Torts here. (Key) Players haven't been playing well, simple as that. Is Torts to blame for Richards' and Gaborik's struggles? No.

50% of the forwards are new. Torts is a hockey coach, not a miracle worker. Players need to step up, and also need time to get used to each other. It's a process for everyone involved.

The thing that confuses me is the whole "safe is death" notion that was so heavily invested in Tortorella when he came here. Obviously when we signed him, our team was pretty poor so this grind it out style worked better. But look at the team we have now, I don't understand how we can't open up the game with the talent on this team. Watching Richards, Gaborik, Stepan, etc. just work and work and work down low until one mishap and the opposition is breaking out. Either that, or they just take some poor angled shot from the boards just hoping that it will go in or create some sort of jumble in front of the net where the puck is bouncing everywhere. Our defense is top notch, especially our top 4. Maybe not go "safe is death" where we start giving up our defensive ways and start playing like Pitt/Phi games like last night :P but allow our guys to get a little creative.

I think the players have to get comfortable with Torts, and more importantly, Torts has to get comfortable with the players before he can loosen the reins so to speak.

There are so many new forwards this year. Everyone just needs time. It obviously sucks that players like Richards and Gaborik haven't been lighting it up (to say the least) but it's still early enough.

Other people have brought it up and it's true: I think the lockout screwed us over more than most other teams. A lot of turnaround in our forward corps+no training camp=what we've been seeing thus far.

I still have confidence in Torts and this team. Come playoffs I doubt anyone will want to face us.

I completely, totally agree. That is what I wish for every time against Les Habitants. However, pushing them around and using the size advantage seems to be something the Rangers never clue in to. They end up watching small guys dance around the Rangers net, scoring, and listening to OLE OLE OLE.
Seems to be the norm.

not sure how an argument can be made that the lockout effected us more than any other given team. if ALL teams were struggling, then yes. but this smacks of just another random excuse as to why we are under performing.

torts is an easy guy to dislike from a fan perspective. hes snarly and arrogant. at the same time, if he wins, all that is overlooked. sports is about winning.

look at tiger woods. hes a complete azzhat, i mean a real clown to the media, fans and obviously in his personal life. but when he won he was feared and respected. all the warts were ignored. winning trumps everything else.

personally, i dont care for torts. never did. but aside from that, if we win games and compete hard every night im with him. im a ny rangers fan not a torts fan.

however, watching games recently has been difficult. i find myself flipping channels and being pissed off. they dont look good losing. heck, they havent looked all that great winning either. maybe 10 really good periods all season by my count.

the pp, the silly decisions, the listlessness and boring style they play, and the lack of any real offensive push is numbing. offensively, this team looks clueless.

this team has the horses. this is a solid team. if they continue to under perform and lose games like they have, the excuses will eventually begin to be less effective and the fire torts death march should begin.

I like Tortorella. Both as a coach, and as a person.

That being said, I really think that his current system is a BAD fit for this team. He needs to focus less on cycling, although cycling can still be a cog in our offense, and he needs to start opening up the transition game a bit more. Tell them to try and make plays off the rush, put the players in a POSITION to make plays off the rush. It seems as though whenever the puck is behind our net, we struggle making straightforward passes out of the zone, and it ALWAYS is because there never seems to be enough support on the wall. It's frustrating to watch, because when the team starts getting a consistent flow of rushes from the D-zone all the way through without the dump and chase, they look impressive. I know that Torts doesn't want to risk giving up goals, but he HAS to up the offensive tempo, the way the Rangers play, it just sucks all the life out of the offense. The strategy needs to be adjusted, this isn't the same blue collar team from last year. We have several significant offensive threats, especially with the recent development of Hagelin's offensive game. They need to play to their strengths, and cycling, as of right now, isn't their best option, IMO.

I'd be shocked if Torts was fired this season (or if the Rangers made any big moves at the deadline). At a minimum he'll get a full pres-season and then be 'on notice' if they get off to a slow start

We miss the playoffs and I think he'll be gone. Especially if our PP continues to be dead last in the league.

I agree with this.

People are starting to doubt if Torts is willing to/can adjust his system to fit his personnel better. I'm hoping he can, I think he has it in him, but I'm starting to falter in my belief in his ability to change his system.

I'm not even sure if the "system" is the issue or whatnot, but implementing a new system takes time and patience. And I don't think a lockout-shortened season with no training camp is an ideal time to start trying it out. Any system under Torts, whether it be the current one or one that opens up the system, is going to rely heavily on conditioning - something that many players are lacking as of right now.

When we transitioned from Renney to Torts, it took over a year for the Rangers to fully adjust. It wasn't until the 2010-11 season, a year and a half after Torts was hired, that the Rangers were able to execute the system successfully. These things take time.
