He did not have enough jam in addition.

Kid was constantly banging his stick on the the ice for the puck. Really annoys me that he was taken off the PP, though obviously nothing is permanent with Torts. My gripe with Torts is this: if you're not gonna be a team that scores a lot, you need at least an average power play. It's clear who our PP guys are, stop fussing with the units; set up two units, and don't touch them. Allow them to build some chemistry. A good PP does not need to be complex. They need one or two set entry plays (the drop pass between center ice and the opponent blue line is my favorite), keep moving, get shots. The other team has one less skater on the ice, ****ing take advantage of it for ****s sake.

The team was down 0 - 2 to Washington and Torts needed to go, the system was broken, nothing would ever change.

The team won two at home, then dominated game 7. Torts is alright, I guess. The system was adjusted, everyone played harder, etc.

Now the team is down 0 - 2 to Boston and Torts needs to go, the system is broken, nothing will ever change.

Torts needs to go under any circumstance. There, said it.
But he will unfortunately not...
Just so you know - much to your liking and my disdain

Fire Torts, Sully goes with Torts. Hire Larry Robinson, a true X's and O's guy.

NO! dibs... :sarcasm:

if you'd like an outsider opinion (I come in peace blah blah) I hope the Rangers never fire Torts. his system has been holding you guys back for a while now...not to say your team isn't good, but honestly I don't think you guys will be cup contenders with him at the helm...you'll be a good team, but nothing more. kinda like we were with Sutter, Lemaire, and possibly even DeBoer...just my opinion

Torts needs to go? Fire him or keep him, I don't care.

But I am sorry, we need to play better. We need to be better offensively and we must put a PP on the ice that just don't hurt us atleast.

The last 14 month's we have played 30 PO games, in 2-3 of those maybe we have been the better team. In the rest we have had our backs against the wall more or less. This year we needed 7 to beat the Caps. Last year we needed 7 to beat the 8th seed, 7 aganist the 7th seed, and then lost in 7 against the 6th seed. When we win, 90% of the time (probably litterary 9/10), we need an insane goalie performance and some luck offensively.

We have Hank. We have a deep young core. We have the GWers. We have rebuilt for 10 years to get here. I am sorry, but to go out against the worst teams in the PO's and be forced to get insane goaltending and luck to win in 7 is just not good enough. You never know, but realistically this year and maybe next season is the best shots we will get. Then we will start getting cap problems. The only logical solution for someone who thinks its the players fault, is to call for everything to be blown apart. Because this is it. I don't think this roster sucks. Especially not compared to the other teams in the East. Especially not compared to like Boston with a AHL defense + Chara.

Jerry from New Jersey who just called in to Boomer and Carton, whoever you are, PREACH! Dude called out Torts big time on the radio. Boomer not in today, but Carton - who admittedly knows no hockey - agrees with Jerry.

Let's get the wheels turning to get this guy out of here already

Say they fire him (which they wont)....then what?

Not sure. I think they have a podcast, but I could be wrong :dunno: sorry man!

The jist of it was, Jerry from Jersey (heh) called out Torts for saying Hagelin "stinks" on the power play while his power play has been abysmal all playoffs long. Michelle Beadle is in for Boomer today who is in Boston at his son's graduation, she basically remained quiet on the subject. But Carton gave his take, as usual, saying that he can't imagine the players like playing for a coach like that, but admitted he's not in the locker room so who knows for sure? Also said there has to be some respect for Torts because he's won it all before.

Basically, Carton said to "look in the mirror."

Say they fire him (which they wont)....then what?

Oh believe, me I hate Torts as much as I dislike third-line Brian Boyle (if you know my posts, you know that's a lot ;) )but I'm very okay with admitting that Torts is going to be around for longer than I'd like. And if the Rangers come back and win this series, he'll have even more time.

I still get mad when the Rangers lose games, especially now in the playoffs, but I firmly believe this team has gotten farther than I thought they would, so every game from here on out is just an extra game I get to watch my boys. At the beginning of the year, I thought this team had the pieces to go all the way. I really did. But it was naive on my part to believe that this coach would form his team to the players assembled, rather than forcing square pegs into round holes. Excuse me, JAMMING square pegs into round holes ;)

So, fire Torts, then what? Well, fire Torts, make him take Sully with him to the unemployment line, and bring in a coach like Larry Robinson or Pete Horachek to head coach, and fill out their coaching staff as they deem fit. True X's and O's guys to get the most out of the skill on this Rangers team. Guys who can deal with NY media without being a grunt about it. Guys who won't call out individual players to the media on such an inconsistent basis. "Oh, I'm not going to talk about Nash or individual players" is Torts one day, and the next day he's "Hagelin stinks on the power play. I'd love to use him, but he stinks"

I want consistency. I want strategy. I want a coach who can adjust his game, mid-game if need be, to give the Rangers a chance at winning. I don't want a coach who sticks to one strategy no matter how much it is failing, and the only adjustment he makes is throwing magnets at a board and seeing what sticks to conjure up line combinations. I want a coach who can see that DZ - Girardi is a disgusting defensive pairing, and never puts them together again. I want a coach who doesn't use Brian Boyle on the power play.

I want a coach with a better post-lockout hockey brain than Tortorella.

Rambled there, sorry guys

Heard that too. About torts playing DZ and Richards every PP when they can't keep a beach ball in the zone yet calls our Hags.

that guy said the powerplay has been abysmal in the playoffs? How about since before Torts got here? The last really good Rangers PP was when we had Jagr and Shanahan.

The Rangers PP as been terrible for 3 years. 3 YEARS. No answers from the coach for all that time. He does not coach the tem to the strengths of the players, he jams them all into the same mold. He plays favorites within the lineup. He is content with the opposition having extended possessions in our zone. He needs help in an assistant coach that can plan and teach, or he needs to go.

I really don't think Torts is the problem. I would expect that if a new coach was brought in, there would be a temporary spike in production, and then this team would come back down to about where they are now.

The only problem I have with Torts is the PP, to be honest. I think a better answer would be to add to this coaching staff, not subtract from it. Get a PP specialist in here.

Torts isn't going to get fired. There are two more home playoff games for Dolan to cash in on.

A bigger concern is what kind of skillless "Grind and Jam" guys are they going to fill the roster with over the summer to suit Coach "We don't practice anything to do with hockey".

The whole season he got bashed for being too conservative. They weren't anywhere close to conservative last night and the same people still complain.

Normally I like the way the Rangers play but I don't like the way he coached game 2.

Great point - as soon as the game opened up and turned into a track meet, the Rangers were doomed. They just cant compete with Boston (or most upper-echelon teams in the league) in the category of creativity off the rush.

Incidentally, thats the way most of the fanbase want this team to play. Talk about square peg into a round hole.

The only player this team has that can consistently make things happen on the rush is Nash.

I don't think this team does anything well outside of playing defense, tbh. Kudos to Torts for making this a solid defensive team, but nothing beyond that is all that impressive. Lousy transition game, and not very impressive in the offensive zone.

I agree.

But I also severely disagree that this team is talented enough to have a dynamic transition game if the shackles were removed. Like I said earlier, I think theres one player on the roster that is an above average player on the rush and thats Rick Nash.

This. People think that just because the team finished in 1st last year that they are some great team. They outworked EVERYONE last year. Their defense was one of, if not the best in the league.

This year is a transition year. I think Torts wants to open it up a bit while keeping that outworking mentality. However, he just did not have the personnel this year to do that and Richards tanking didn't help.

He had one defenseman on the forecheck all night. It's bad enough that we run every one of our defenseman into the ground with minutes and it's even worse to see them have to either forecheck all game or be the only defenseman back.

Where is the backcheck? Why aren't our forwards covering the trailer?

Now is actually a reasonable time to question what the hell he's doing. For a long time people were living in a fantasy world thinking the Rangers could "open up the offense" while not sacrificing any defense.

I agree with you to an extent, but the team certainly isn't so devoid of talent that we should be struggling this much. Tortorella is a good coach of excellent players. However, when it comes to maximizing the results of average players, he's absolutely clueless, IMO. I'm not saying we need to let the team loose and watch the magic happen, because that's not realistic. I'm simply saying that great coaches can do more with less.

This is no transition year. This is the year we were supposed to push for a cup.

This is the year (adding Nash to Gaborik) was the year in which strides were made to improve on last year's conference finals appearance in which most called a transition year.

A failure to reach the CF again this year is a failure of a season because we were supposed to have been better.

As for Torts opening it up? That's a pretty good joke. He's shown no ability to implement a system that can generate an attack off the rush be that at ES or on the PP. His dump and chase philosophy in a puck possession world is destined to fail. His approach of keeping everything along the walls and behind the net will never be a system that can sustain long periods of offensive pressure.

The front office insistance on drafting nice guys with "charachter" have left the forward group pretty soft and un-able or worse, un-willing to impose their physical will on the opposition.

I have no faith in this organization from top to bottom. I'll always be a fan, but never a blind one.

Torts has never been "allright"....in any book:sarcasm:

He needs to go, whichever way, I don't care. Whether we win or lose this series, he has got to go. He will never get the most out of his players. F this guy and F his Pigheaded style
