Torts or Sullivan is irrelevant. The coaching gets severely outcoached and the only in game adjustments are detrimental line changes.

The obsession to play Boyle in almost every offensive situation is ridiculous.

If by "ridiculous" you actually mean "completely fabricated by fans who have an irrational hatred of Tortorella and Boyle" then I guess you have a point.

With the goalie pulled with 90 seconds left, Tortorella put 6 forwards on the ice. Every one of them was Boyle.

MDZ was having a terrible game and Torts should have recognized that and cut his ice time. There's no excuse for a player who's having that bad of a game to play that much regardless of if his family is in attendance.

Torts is a better fit with this team more so than that of the team he had before the trading deadline.

I still think these New York Rangers would be better off with a different skipper.

Luckily, if they solve the cloning issue any time soon, our owner is rich enough to buy one of the first machines. Say hello to 12 Rick Nashs.

(inb4 "12 Rick Nashs? More like 12 Brian Boyles")

Couldn't afford 12 Rick Nashs. Salary Cap. Your scenario is totally unrealistic.

Honestly, you stick with your best players. MDZ could have come through and has more offensive ability in his pinky than our other D-Men. I would bet everything i own that MDZ's family being there had NOTHING to do with his decision. MDZ has been our best D-Man this year, he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

The biggest issue I had with Torts last night was putting Stepan in the faceoff circle three consecutive times in the last minute. Everyone knows he's not great at faceoffs, but it's unacceptable for him to lose two and then throw him out for a third in the last minute. Boyle or Richards should have been in the dot. Hell Callahan would have been a better option.

Step has been our best Center.

You say in the first part of your post that Del Z has earned TBOTD. What about Step? Yeah I totally agree with you that his FO's have been a weaker part of his game, but gaining the faceoff experience now is whats gonna help our best Center and our best forward after Nash get better in the dot, and hopefully in time for the playoffs, when all of this will be forgotten and it becomes a whole new puckgame ;)

There is no doubt he has been our best center. He has also not been our best faceoff man. Being the best center on this team has nothing to do with how he's been in the dot. The last minute of an important game is not the time to learn. Especially when he lost 2 clear as day. He was getting owned on those faceoffs and what happens on the third, literally the same move as the first two. stick picked up and puck is kicked back to toronto d-man.

Happens once, fine, happens twice, meh, happens three times, unacceptable.

I love Stepan and he's been a godsend with the atrocious play of Richards this year, but it's not ok to keep throwing him out there for important faceoffs when he just can't win them.

I'd rather take that risk. That game is important like the next 9 games are important. It wasn't the end of the world. I knew we'd most likely lose, 4th game in 6 nights.

Win tomorrow, then a battle of the ages in Long Island Saturday. A game we might lose, and even then it won't be the end of the world.

Boyle should be getting similar minutes to Darrell Powe. Similar because there will be situations where you need a second center in a defensive posture and so BB may get a little bit more. Otherwise, he should be on the 4th line with Darrell, PKing and that's it. Any line with him as a piece will not score and that my friends is why Torts needs to slot him on the 4th line. Not on the 3rd line holding Brassard and Hags back. Once he is on the 4th line, the post game discussion will not involve him absent a huge defensive blunder like the other night.

Funny, would you then complain if MDZ had 12-15 minutes because Torts is too hard on the Rangers young players? I believe you would.

People can't have it both ways, he either sticks to his guns, or makes changes. Either way people complain.

MDZ has not been better than McD this year. He is not capable of being better than Ryan. He has probably outpaced expectations while McD has seemed to underperform in Torts' eyes. But McD is a much better player and last night was no exception.

To be fair I don't think it would draw the ire of many if DZ saw lowered ice time for one game since he is logging 20+ most nights. It's different with guys like Kreider because he is less experienced and getting egregiously low ice time most games in NY when he needs more to adapt and learn.

As far as anyone mentioning Boyle goes the only problem with him I had last night was he was yet again on the PP. I know people are quick to say, "go with what works that unit is scoring goals!" However the problem here besides the obvious that Boyle is not useful on the PP is that the best offensive 4 forward and one defensemen unit needs to be out there as much as possible. It's important these players develop chemistry and get some consistency for the stretch and possibly playoffs. Torts had zero issue breaking up the Hagelin-Stepan-Nash line during a 4 game win streak just to try and jump start Richards. However he is now stubbornly icing a questionable PP unit just because it was working after a trade where new players were riding the adrenaline. There is no reason a 3/4 player like Boyle needs to see the PP. Clowe is a superior option. Even if he wants to run the same unit sans Boyle and adding MZA or Stepan, that's an improvement.

LOL at people blaming Torts for Del Zotto's defensive mishaps. Sorry, but Del Zotto is paired with Girardi. Girardi is one of our better defensemen and Torts wanted them out there to protect the tie. Del Zotto screwed up. It happens. Doesn't mean you bench your players every time they screw up.

I've seen enough of Torts to tell you we aren't gonna win a cup with him, or be perennial contenders for it.

I have no issues with the way he coached last night. It's a frantic schedule, shortening the bench now is a bad idea. The last thing you want is to try to win one game and have dead legs cost you the next one.

I do think he probably needs to split up Del Zotto and Girardi, that pairing hasn't been working, and Girardi in particular has been flat out awful for about a month. Del Zotto had a terrible game last night but he's been, for the most part, our best D since Staal's injury.

Like there's a big choice on the roster to pick up the slack and play additional minutes if one of our top guy(s) is having a subpar game!

It's not like we've won a lotta cups around here lately! Got any meaningful suggestions on a coach who may actually be the "right fit" to lead us to a 2nd cup in about 75 years???

This.

We are in the worst possible state of the franchise. Too mediocre to be contenders, not bad enough to get high picks. Perpetual mediocrity. Torts has 2 good coaching seasons, that's it.
