Brian Boyle, on wing, has been a very effective player...i'm pretty surprised how few people see this. i have no problem with Boyle playing 17-19 mins...he's killing penalties, he's playing the wall pretty well...he's not going to score, but he's giving us effective minutes.

i don't have a problem with him here....he's MUCH better as a winger than a center. he's involved more, plays the puck more, just....does more stuff out there...as a center he usually just skated around and did nothing.

Rangers get lead....Rangers need to protect lead...Rangers put out one of their better defensive players (Boyle)

Rangers are even, they roll 3 lines.

Rangers are losing, they shorten the bench, Boyle sees less time (unless they are killing a penalty).

The reason Boyle is playing so many minutes, is because the Rangers are winning.

Boyle as a winger gets the Benefit of being further up the ice when the play starts. Gives him better position for the forechecking an general checking ability. He was far too slow starting out deep in the own zone to get up the ice quick enough to pose any offense at all. He also did not know how to position himself effectively as a center in the offensive zone. Being a winger means he can use his better attributes more effectively. Good move I M o

Yeah I'll blame not getting a point tonight on Torts. How are you an NHL coach? How do you put your worse defenseman on the ice tonight right after you score a game tying goal. Del Zotto was god awful. Why was he back on the ice? Should've been benched tonight.

moore gets benched playing a decent game the other night... del zotto gets played after single-handedly causing 3 out of 4 goals against. #tortslogic#oristhatsullivan

edit: MDZ got TWENTY-FIVE minutes tonight...

All of our forwards spend 90% of their offensive zone time behind the net.

This doesn't bother me as much as our defensemen not knowing when to be defensemen. Toronto has offense. This is not the night to be joining the rush as much getting caught up ice, being out of position away from the front of the net...aka you sucked tonight del zotto.

But if the forwards are all behind the net, that just leads to more odd-man rushes. Plus, no one but Frolov is scoring from behind the net. The action is supposed to be in front!

A broken stick away from OT...

So it was a guaranteed goal if the stick didn't break? Man for someone who deals in facts, that's a pretty big leap of faith.

Also, how does that change the fact Del Zotto was horrible and Torts gave him 25 minutes? Even if they got to OT or won?

Honestly, I think we were a broken stick away from OT too. Stepan has been our best player besides Nash for a few weeks now. He was going to net that if his stick didn't break. Obviously there's no way to know for sure, but it was likely going to be a real easy goal for one of our hottest players.

This is all woulda, coulda, shoulda, but the point remains that this was a game where we should have at least gotten a point. Personally I found Clowe was most disappointing by missing two very good scoring chances tonight. Regroup and get revenge in the next game.

I'm very skeptical of Tortorella leading this team to a championship. Obviously, I don't think much will happen this year. But, even looking towards next season-I see the same systemic problems night in night out(irregardless if the players are playing well or not).

Tonight, the Rangers(AGAIN)struggled mightily on the breakout/transition. Torts NEVER makes adjustments when the opposing team is stacking the wall in the D zone(which is the blueprint to beat the Rangers). Rangers were forcing plays all night along the board. Toronto was either outnumbering the Rangers along the wall or intercepting hard arounds on the far side blue line.

This has happened time and time and time again. We end up forcing so many plays along the wall in the D zone that the Rangers are exhausted from grinding by the time they get the play up ice. Toronto was giving the Rangers the middle of the ice on the transition. Yet, the blue shirts never utilized it at all(to a man).

We also do nonsensical stuff like stretch pass tip ins which just willingly gives up the puck to the opposing team.

There is also significant issues with overusing the collapsing zone defense; plus an offensive zone scheme with too much wall support down low. But, those are not the main issues with our teams struggles. The transition/breakout is.

This was a problem in '11. It was a problem in '12. It is still a problem in '13. If Torts continues on forcing his nonsensical transition game(which was a BIG reason he was axed from Tampa): the Rangers will NEVER win a cup with him at the helm.

Well I'll do everyone one better then and say if Torts doesn't give DZ 25 minutes of ice-time, Rangers win in regulation.

Torts or Sullivan is irrelevant. The coaching gets severely outcoached and the only in game adjustments are detrimental line changes.

The obsession to play Boyle in almost every offensive situation is ridiculous.

If Boyle is being used properly (4th line, PK and faceoff specialist) then he can be somewhat effective. Tortorella is insisting on using him in situations that didn't match his skill set. It's frustrating to say the least.

Last nights game is not a proper time to bash the coach. The Rangers carried the play for the majority of the game. Thats all you can ask for at this level.

If not for 3 of the worst defensive blunders you'll see from MDZ and an atypical pedestrian game from Lundqvist, the Rangers win this game.

But I guess its so much easier to pile it all on the coach.

I find it laughable after every game..boyle someone is brought up in conversion on here.. so funny.. creepy obsession or something.. but last night was a good game.. i almost counted them out at 2-0 but they showed fight and thats all you could as for.. we just had collapses that was the difference maker.. no bigggy onto Weds.. BIG BIG game especially if the islis and devs win.. love the line combos.. all played well.. to long of shifts.. torts has to watch that.. we got caught way to many times and lost momentum..

last night is not on torts. really.

del zotto looked like a dufus and made some awful decisions.

and hank didnt have his best stuff.

pretty much thats it.

I'm sorry BRB I disagree. I like Torts, I do...but that is the time to call him out. Part of being a coach is recognition. Torts says and does increase and decrease player's ice time throughout the game based on the "feel" he has for the game. Well clearly he wasn't feeling **** with del zotto's game because it was so damn apparent of how poor he was playing. If that was Gaborik or Kreider they'd be riding the bench. You tied the game basically short handed after a great PK and you put del zotto out there on the next shift or two? C'mon that's just stupid. You had the momentum and gave it right back. Del Zotto was chasing forwards up the boards by the blueline so Kessel could have not one but two shots on net.

It was BAD coaching. Bottom line.

In a game where the Rangers were trailing most of, Boyle played 13:28, with 2:13 of that being PK time.
