I wonder if Johnny Hockey and Eichel winning it back to back has helped inflate this. They're great. But the rest of that recent list...oof

Sabres really like them some Hobey Baker winners. :sarcasm:

Jack Eichel
Kevin Porter
Jordan Leopold
Ryan Miller
Chris Drury
Brian Holzinger

Not surprising, the Pens used Crosby to try and get Vesey. Vesey's agent seems to have thought the Pens gave a really good presentation and the Pens are rumored to be signing DiPauli (same agent, another good college free agent), so who knows. I still put the Pens around 3rd or 4th for Vesey, probably behind the Bruins, Devils and maybe Rangers.

If that was the case than Kyle Connor would have won.

It is an award for Seniors and Juniors with the rare occurrence of a freshman winning it.

Maybe Vessy had a better season according to those that matter.

"Impressive meetings with a lot of different perspectives has certainly given the camp a lot to think about," said Peter Donatelli, one of Vesey's agents.

Despite reports, no team has been told it is out of the running, according to Donatelli.

"No, that's not true at all," Donatelli said. "None of the teams we met with have been told that. Everyone is still in the mix. We're going to try and drill down right now to a few [teams] and then either call some teams with some questions or not. We'll probably reach out to a few teams with some questions that we think were either unanswered or we want clarification on, but that's the intent today."

The Blackhawks' Patrick Kane was in Boston for Chicago's meeting with Vesey. The Devils' Cory Schneider and Kyle Palmieri spoke with Vesey, too. The Rangers' Kevin Hayes, a Boston native, has talked with Vesey numerous times this summer while both work out together. The Islanders' John Tavares was also in Boston on Tuesday to make his pitch on behalf of the organization. When the Bruins hosted Vesey at the team's new practice facility, numerous Bruins players were in attendance to greet him. Also, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby also reached out to Vesey.

It's funny how some people seem to be offended by the amount of threads we have (in august), by calling him a bust, AHL journeyman, nobody etc. whilst it seems like nearly every team wants to give him an ELC with full bonuses, and go out of their way to do it (by letting star players reach out to him).

Of course every team is trying to get him. It is like getting a free draft pick for a middle 6 prospect. Which is usually a late 1st

Most people are annoyed he is being portrayed as a top flight blue chip 1st line prospect by posters when he is likely a middle 6 fixture.

Same thing happened with Troy Stecher and Drake Cagiulla

Have many, or even anyone, actually done this in over seven threads?

I would like to see how easily people forget Vesey if he signs with Devils! Best place to play under the radar if ignoring all other teams which aren't rumored.

I don't think he said it was false. He said he under-estimated the internet

Unless your speaking about a different guy who started different condo chatter, or a different tweet/source, then my apologies for incorrectly correcting ...

No, that's the one. To me, that's basically coming out to say he started a rumor for laughs, attention, whatever, and it spread like it was true. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Doubt they're in the mix for Vesey, and at this point I just want the kid to make up his mind soon. This has been dragging on for far too long, he's not good enough to be this entitled.

Realistically it's not that unusual. A less heralded guy like Antoine Laganaire also had seven offers on the table and he took three days to decide. That didn't get as much coverage (aside from Vesey being a better prospect) since it happened when the NCAA season ended in April and there were plenty of other stories to report about. Mid-August, there's not much else.

I love how personally some of you are taking it when a free agent wants to meet with multiple teams and decide what's best for him. Seriously, get over it. Implying he shouldn't try and do what is best for himself is ridiculous.

Vesey never impressed me much, but I've only seen him play in the Beanpot. I hope he signs with the Devils, because, that'd be cool I guess.

Except when Eichel wins.

Jimmy wrote a very nice article for the Players Tribune this spring about how great the NCAA college hockey experience is and how he turned down going pro last year to complete his four years there. That probably didn't hurt his chances...

8 of the last 10 winners have been seniors

You think they are going to give it to a rookie twice in a row?

Kyle Connor had 71 points in 38 games
Jack Eichel had 70 points in 40 games

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Facts are facts except when they don't agree with you.

It's not a scoring g title and one point is hardly the difference.

This is going to come off homer-y but I feel like part of the reason Vesey is so sought after is he is in a similar situation to Panarin last season. But I don't think anybody predicted just how successful Panarin would be (nobody, or at least hardly anybody, guessed he would score 77 points).

So now, in case Vesey ends up somehow wildly exceeding all expectations like Panarin did, nobody wants to lose out on him. And if he does bust, well I guess all that will cost the team is a contract spot.

I mean, Panarin is a much, much better player than Vesey, but he did not generate anywhere near this kind of buzz prior to signing with Chicago. To be fair it happened in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoffs as opposed to in the dog days of summer, but still, I feel like Panarin's signing flew well under the radar up until the start of last season.

He's not going to Buffalo or New Jersey, not willingly.

They're probably the only team on his list who can give him quality PP time. Because as much as PIT can potentially play him with Crosby or Malkin, there's almost no chance he'll see PP minutes with either unless Sullivan splits up the PPs and runs 2 equal-ish PPs - something he didn't do at all last season.
