Winter is Coming
But if he signs in Buffalo, he can have a good fit on a top 6 scoring line with his buddy Eichel (or with Ryan O'Reilly). IMO, that is clearly the best fit for him role-wise.

Plus he won't have the pressure of playing in his hometown, or in a major media fishbowl like NYC or Toronto.

He'll get to grow with a team just as it is on the upswing into contention.

Why do you think he has the ability to step in to a top 6 role as a 24 year old or whatever in the NHL?

What makes this Vesey kid any better than any other college free agent signings like Brandon Tanev or goalies like Nik Ellis or Alex Lyon or whatever? Is it because he won the hobey baker as a college veteran eventho he probably didn't deserve it?

6 topics.

Austin Matthews has 7.

One is a projected 1C, and the other is a middle 6.

Amazing.

One is a currently hot topic, the other is on his summer break.
One concerns a third of the league, the other mainly concerns one team.

Vesey gets a lot of talk because this is the only thing going on right now. It's not particularly noteworthy that he gets attention.

Hawks signed a Hobey Baker winner a couple of years ago, think he's out of hockey or something now, didn't cut it in Rockford.

Yep, Drew Leblanc. Hobey winner in 2013. Played two seasons in Rockford and is now in the DEL.

I wonder if Johnny Hockey and Eichel winning it back to back has helped inflate this. They're great. But the rest of that recent list...oof

Yeah. The Hobey Baker means very little in terms of actual hockey skill. The Mike Richter award is closer to real skill than the Hobey Baker is. Connor still should have won. Oh well. Making the final 3 is an achievement in of itself.

Can't wait until the decision. Maybe he'll drag it out until the WCoH camps open.

The Hobey Baker is whats driving the hype along with his dad working for the leafs and his brother being drafted by them.

That might be the case... if it wasn't for the fact that there was hype about him last summer when he didn't sign with Nashville.

Dallas has had bad luck with Hobey Baker winners in the past as well. Signed back-to-back winners Junior Lessard and Marty Sertich, around a decade ago. Sertich never made it to the NHL, and Lessard played less than a season. :help:

Doubt they're in the mix for Vesey, and at this point I just want the kid to make up his mind soon. This has been dragging on for far too long, he's not good enough to be this entitled.

Said all along that if this KID is looking for the best opportunity to play a top 6 role, then NJ would probably be his best bet... Personally, don't care who he signs with, Don't think he's gonna live up the hype he's getting, i actually think it's impossible for him to live up to the hype he's getting but... NJ probably does make the most sense and it's close enough to his home. Also a little less media crazy than say NYR,NYI,Philly,Boston,Chicago,Toronto.

Let's pretend for a moment that Kyle Connor won the Hobey Baker.... Does Vesey still get all this hype? Cuz really, he's 24 years old, he's not some just drafted 18 year old or 19 year old kid, he's 24 or something... he is what he is isn't he pretty much? I mean how much upside does he have or is it because he won the hobey baker as a 4 year college veteran pretty much?

The NYI get very little media. In fact I would say the Devils get more.

No doubt Buffalo has a spot for him. I just think in my humble opinion if he was going to sign there it would have been done before August 16th, regardless of what comments have been relayed in the media or blogs about him going to FA no matter what. Who knows though, other than his camp. He will be expected to produce at a high level wherever he lands though.

Looks like the guy that started the rumor of Vesey getting a condo with Hayes went and admitted that it wasn't true.

To be fair the Hobey Baker is not solely the reason that he is being hyped.

Granted the hype is to the point that there is no way he lives up to it even if he reaches expectations and hopes, but on the other hand the award is not the sole reason he is well thought of. He is generally seen as having top six potential regardless of any awards. Not star but top six potential. For free as far as picks go.

The truth about him probably lies somewhere between all this hype and the all he is is a product of an award talk. You do not need to swing entirely in the other direction which is almost as bad as hyping him up beyond all reasonable expectations.

So you believe most hockey fans to be idiots?

If one were to spend some time on HFBoards, one could surely be forgiven for making that assumption.

----------

I just spent a few days in New Jersey and Pokestops were few and far between. He won't go to the Devils.

If he wants to score points and put himself in position to cash out on his next contract, then the Devils probably aren't the best choice.

Before someone sites where they finished in scoring years ago, consistently they are a strong defensive team that isn't know for scoring and their GF reflect that.

I don't think he said it was false. He said he under-estimated the internet

Unless your speaking about a different guy who started different condo chatter, or a different tweet/source, then my apologies for incorrectly correcting ...
