The earliest the Hawks will rebuild is when Toews and Kane retire. So in about 10 years or so. Plenty of time to get a new core of superstars implemented and winning Cups. Vesey needs to consider this and make the correct call. Or he'll play close to mommy in the comfort zone, where nothing truly great ever happens for anyone ever. His choice.

Hate to break it to you, but in 5 years when Keith and Seabrook are well past their prime and Kane/Toews are declining hard, you're not competing for a cup that's for sure. There's not going to be an influx of new superstars either without a rebuild; your team's core was built through top draft picks currently. Even if you managed to get lucky and draft a superstar later on, you won't be able to pay him until Toews/Kane are off the books. In the end it's still worth it because you got 3 and counting cups out of that core, but you're in for some rough years before Kane/Toews retire and then the rebuild will likely start. That's the price of success and those two contracts are going to hurt.

It's always been Boston. I would be pretty shocked if he ends up somewhere else.

With that being said the Pens have everything Vesey supposedly wants. Ability to play LW in a top 6 role (most likely with Crosby), be a part of a winning franchise (just won a Cup after all) and be in position to secure a very lucrative 2nd contract due to the likelihood that he'd be putting up great stats in that environment with those linemates.

Not to mention Pittsburgh has a ton of Boston/Mass/USA hockey ties with Mike Sullivan, Bill Guerin, Nick Bonino, Connor Sheary, Brian Dumoluin, etc.

Pittsburgh has all that but it has been stated that he wants to be close to his family and to me that means it is down to Boston obviously, NYR, NYI, and New Jersey. He could live in Connecticut and play for any of those NY area teams and be in Boston in an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic of course.

The hype with this guy is unreal. I honestly don't care one way or another where he signs cause he has proved nothing in the NHL yet to warrant ESPN carrying "The Decision: Jimmy Vesey".

He's essentially a free 6'3" 1st round calibre prospect who's developed about as well as one could have hoped for a guy going for the full college ride.

No guarantees that a prospect like that will pan out at the NHL level, but it's no mystery why a message board called "Hockey's Future" would be so interested in his destination.

He's not 1st round caliber, and he's developped in Harvard. In other words, he's nothing.

Doesn't make a pinch of sense does it?

The only hype I've seen about Vesey is in the Vesey thread on a Hockey Forum that is mostly visted by hockey lunatics. I really don't understand people coming in here getting all pissy about the attention he's getting and then calling him a bust.

He's basically a sure thing NHL player, in what capacity who knows. But of course teams are going to make a pitch for a free NHL roster player. It'd just be nice to come into this thread and read actual discussions on the player other than "lol why do people even care, he's probably gonna bust" or "anybody remember justin shultz lol".

Oh well, I still bet he's taking his talents to Boston.

People that are criticizing Vesey make me laugh.

For starters, he couldn't sign with a team until yesterday, as free agent.

He's taking his time to make a decision and weighing all of his options like any rational adult would.

He's got you talking about the NHL in mid-August, which is a Godsend and the league could use this type of buzz more often. With such little player movement in this league, things like this are very welcomed.

He could've signed with buffalo ever since the trade for his draft rights were made. But yes, I don't hate Vesey as much as i do the media for twisting the story the way they had. It makes sense to finish up and graduate from FRICKIN HARVARD lmao and why not explore all possible options? I mean the respect factor 99.9% of prospects have for the team that drafted them is thrown out the window...but other than that.....I don't think anybody blames him for taking his time and finding the best situation he can to begin his NHL career

Imagine how sour Vesey will be, if whatever team he decides, feels it makes good hockey sense to trade/waive him at any point (be it poor play, a great trading opportunity, etc). Spends all this time trying to find a place to settle down, in the Northeast close to family, with a good chance at future contracts/stability/longevity... just to get shipped off to California or Arizona or somewhere out West.

Not that I wish any ill will on the guy, good on him for finishing college and seeking out the best team fit... it's his life and career afterall. The thought just amused me.

The people who say he should go to a current contender don't realize that there is a pretty good chance the team he goes to will be going through a rebuild within the next 3 or 4 years. There is no real way around it because of the salary cap. Chicago has been excellent for over half a decade but ultimately they're going to have to reconfigure the organization.

Does Vesey want to go through a rebuild in his early 20's or in his late 20's?

So you're saying that at the time his contract is up he may be able to join a team that is coming out of it's rebuild while getting 2 years to win a Cup instead of two years of basement dwelling? Sounds like a tough choice.

Edit: I bet Schultz never regrets picking an up and coming EDM team over an established contender when he was in this situation.
