I didn't get why people were so down on it before it started. It's the best international hockey we've seen in far too long. So what about Russia, the timing during the season, the lack of history, or whatever else. It's still the highest stakes international hockey in years and it's guaranteed to generate drama with the Olympics next year.

I think its a real tragedy that Russia isn't represented in this tournament and no, I wouldn't boo their national anthem. The Canadians (and other national participants attending) are classless for booing another country. Sport is separate from politics and the athletes (even if they agree with their leaders) don't deserve the disrespect.

There is an opportunity to use international sporting events to create a diplomatic bridge in the face of the politics some are referencing above. It’s a shame if instead the local population uses the chance to put more distance.

Binner announced as starter again. I can see arguments for either him or Hill but clearly Coop has faith in Binner. I'm guessing this game isn't gonna end 1-0 for the US like I hope. Will be interesting for sure.

This game is going to be fun. I feel like Canada feels they need to reassert themselves as the world hockey powerhouse. Coming into this tournament I definitely viewed them as clear favorites because of the top tier talent they have. Sweden played them a lot closer than I thought though. Missing Hughes really sucks for USA, but I thought the Matthews line looked excellent and obviously the Eichel and Tkachuk brothers line was very effective as well. I think this is anyone’s game. Let’s go USA!

These 3 game tourneys are so lame. You really need 4 or 5 games to get a real feel for things. The game against Sweden could mean literally nothing if USA wins tonight and thus they let Sweden roll over them to f*** over Canada/Finland then.

EDIT: What really saved the US from collapsing was a very lucky storm that brewed up and plastered the region.

That OT goal was all Granlund, but nice to see Mikkola get the assist.

I was always very high on Mikkola. Sad we had to give him up, but glad he’s experiencing success.

This hockey has been great. The Sweden - Finland game was fantastic. These international games are so much better than regular NHL games. Strong argument for contraction and making the individual teams much more talented.
