I feel like swapping Hayes for Colborne accomplishes absolutely nothing unless we wanted a LH version of Hayes.
It allows the Bruins to have JFK and Colborne as their 3rd and 4th line centers next season. If JFK can't handle 3rd line duties, then they'll have Colborne swap center positions with JFK when applicable. If the Bruins decide Moore may be too costly to re-sign, that move also allows the Bruins to get a pick for Moore at the trade deadline

I'm sorry, there are about 400 better options for 4th line center IMO. We should at least sign someone who can kill penalties well.

As far as JFK, he looks fantastic at BU but he might need seasoning.

I don't disagree about there being a better #4C, but if the Bruins can trade a useless player who they will most likely be stuck with for another season for a tolerable one, I think they should make the move.

What about Spooner & Nash? And possibly Backes ...

I really hope Landeskog is the guy they are scouting. Assuming we can land Landeskog, we lose a defenseman to expansion, sign Bjork and JFK in the spring, let the UFA's go, pass on qualifying all RFA forwards except Spooner & Pasta, and of course, we buy out or otherwise get rid of Jimmy Hayes; next year forward ranks looks something like this throughout the organization.

Boston:

Marchand-Bergeron-Pasta
Landeskog-Krejkci-Backes
Vatrano-Spooner-Heinen
Beleskey-Nash-Chelarik

Providence:

DeBrusk-Cave-Senyshyn
Bjork-JFK-Fitzgerald
Blidh-Kuraly-Gabrielle
???-Koppanen-Hickman

In the pipeline:
Frederic (TBD) - Donato (2019-20) - Steen (2019-20) - Hughes (2019-20) - Becker (2019-20)

I agree mostly except I want Backes as 3rd line center and Vatrano in the top 6. Want Spooner gone (for fair value).

Marchand-Bergeron-Pasta
Landeskog-Krejci-Vatrano
Rookie/Vet-Backes-Heinen
Beleskey-Nash-Rookie/Vet

I 100%agree, but the more this plays out, the less I believe Backes was brought here to be the 3rd line center. Seems more and more like an attempt to replace Lucic than it was to provide center depth.

Not to mention, with JFK progressing well, Backes would be a bit of a ****-block at 3rd line C, where Spooner is more of a seemless transition and could be signed to a reasonable bridge while JFK finds his legs in Providence.

I can't speak for the Bruins but the reason I suggested the deal was because I thought Colborne could be a serviceable (albeit temporary) 3rd line center for us.

Colborne and Hayes have similar stat lines and have been used in basically the same role this season, but last year Colborne had 19 goals and 44 points in CGY, he was also 54.8% at the dot. Having seen both of them up close, Colborne is MUCH more skilled than Hayes.

I'm wondering if Colborne just isn't a fit in COL. They're committed to Soderberg as their 3c, so Colborne has played mostly RW (his off-wing). They're also going to trade Iginla so adding a RW in Hayes fills a spot for them and maybe he plays better out from under the pressure and stress he deals with here. For Boston, they could try Colborne at center and see if he can find his game again and maybe give Spooner someone more skilled to play with.

Worst case, it's garbage for garbage and neither team is any better/worse off. Best case, the change of scenery and role does them both some good.

Not sure Landeskog is a guy you have to "scout", he`s a known commodity IMO

But with his stat line this year, is he really? Maybe they want to make sure there aren't other issues at hand besides playing on a bad team.

Agreed. I don't know that you'd "have to" scout him, but it would be wise to take a look at anyone you're thinking of trading for, no?

That said, there are those potentially in the know who have hinted at a different scenario.

Don't have to name the names, but what was hinted at?

I would think considering his production is down, the question of WHY would be worth sending a scout or two before making a big investment. I certainly would if I was putting my name on a trade for a big name player.

I said earlier I 100% agree, but I should add a caveat;

I'm as big a Vatrano fan as there is, but I want to see a player establish himself as better than a 1/2 ppg player to be considered a legitimate 2nd line forward. I think Vatrano could get there, but not he's not there yet. Backes has been a top 6 producer and is just on the bubble of doing it again this year.

I wouldn't mind a Hayes for Colborne deal. I doubt it will happen but you can never tell. I'd love him as the 3rd C and think he would do an outstanding job.

100% Colburne is a better player then Hayes .He is better on the boards and has more vision too.

Where is this silly notion Hayes is being traded for Colborne? There isn't a team dumb enough to take on Hayes and bad contract.

Looking at recent call ups could be telling - Spencer Martin (goalie), Goloubef (D), and possibly rookie Rantanen Right Wing.

I can see a goalie swap (Subban for Martin) and/or D / RW for LW swap...something like that.

May be working on a pieces swap with them. Subban, Spooner and Hayes for Martin, Colborne +

Have they been linked to be scouting us? I pray we stay away from adding Shattenkirk

Let's say we get him. And end up re-signing him long term. Where does McAvoy and the rest of the defensive prospects fit?

I think shattenkirk long term effects krug more so than the kids. Too many high paid undersized specialists is not a good thing

If shattenkirk is under 6.5 per year to extend... I am willing to move krug... go with shattenkirk/kid/3rd pair guy down the right side... but it will mean moving alot of pieces

Not only krug... but miller/mcquaid too... maybe 3 guys have to go to fit a rhs big ticket item like shattenkirk here.

He's a tempting player... but overall he's not as good a fit as a guy like trouba might be.

Leave the puckmover spot open for mcavoy and c miller... have Carlo settle into second pair moving forward... and keep one of macquaid or killer around to plug the other hole until better options develop.

All in all we might should look at a first pair lh shot dman that can partner with mcavoy.... perhaps bouwmeister would be the better target to trade for?

I don't make trade proposals often and the following is not likely to happen,

BUT

would you consider the following deal?

to ST LOUIS
Krejci, Rask and EDM 2nd pick (14,250 cap hit this year)

to BOSTON
Stastny, Allen and Shattenkirk (13,600 cap hit this year)

Reasoning:
St Louis solves their goaltending issues and replace their #1 centre with an slight upgrade. Negative - they aquire long term cap hits.

Boston gets their upgraded defenceman and get a true #2 centre. Open up cap space down the road.

Not sure I do this if I am Boston because the best player (maybe both) are heading to St Louis. Jake Allen could (fingers crossed) be a great #1 goalie.

Thoughts?
Am I nuts?
