He's got some kind of a plan that seems to include waiting until his prospects develop. The problem is that he's deviated from that plan notably (keeping Loui, signing Backes to a bad contract), and the other problem is that by the time those prospects materialize, key veterans on this team may be ineffective or retired.

So I think it's easy to say he "has a plan", but I think it's very hard to tell just what window of time that plan is targeting. Instead, we are just forced to watch teams struggle to make the playoffs, never get any external help from the GM, all the while hoping there's gold at the end of the rainbow. I don't know...I guess that might be the plan but it seems odd that it would be, to me at least.

He's going to incorporate the youth into the core the next couple seasons and fix holes as he goes I would think. No reason To stress so much. Took Chiarelli five summers to make the Horton deal and aggressive deadline deals. Maybe he feels he has a new core coming up with some of these kids, who knows.

Unless you win the Cup. Then overpaying big-time for Kaberle to be a passenger on a Cup run is all forgiven.

No Kaberle no Cup

I sat for every home game 2 seats in back of Thomas first and third so I can watch that D

In place of Kaberle you put Kampfer

Kaberle earned his ring

Well, I haven't been here for that many.

But I can remember the Ian Moran, Andrei Meszaros, JML deals.

The one deadline that I did like was 2009 when PC traded for Recchi right on deadline day. AND. I missed that one. I was in Toronto on my way to Florida.

If not for my wife's first class ticket, I would have never found out about that deal. That was back in the day when I didn't have an iphone and instant access to information.

Loved the deal then and still love it now.

I would have loved to have seen the negative comments on that.

But my point remains, Don hasn't done much to earn the "damned if you do" Comment.

I'm not speaking specifically to Don, I'm speaking about the LF as a whole as it pertains to the Bruins. And that covers back to the chiarelli-Lewis season when I first joined

But agreed- Don hasn't made a significant move at the deadline.

He isn't passive though. I don't get that narrative. He's moved a fan favorite, traded a 21 YO defenseman, and fired the all time wins leader in franchise history

That's fine but it seems clear to me that our prospects are 3+ years from being real contributors. We are talking about very young kids at this point. If that's his strategy, I just don't see how it meshes with players like Chara, Krejci, even Bergeron. You're going to have key players in their early-mid 30's when prospects are solid contributors.

I think his plan is fine in concept, but I think he's a few years off one way or the other.

Exactly.

Lots said no rentals. Lots said no moving Carlo, McAvoy, etc. Sweeney said he expects to sit tight, and so far he has. Not much to gripe about here.

I think you need a mix of young and old to win a cup- having Bergeron and krejci in their early 30's isn't necessarily a bad thing, they should still be producing then

They'll be the leaders with Backes and Chara provided Z is still playing in 3 years (debatable)

If they dont make any trades, I hope that Donnie at least brings up some rookies and rotate them in with Hayes and Beleskey. Both arent doing squat so if they are looking internal then at least that should happen.

....wouldn't have minded Parenteau for a 6th....

Doesn't really move the needle in either way though

I think he is smart enough to deal some down the road for more proven talent. He wants to see who though.
