I won't be frustrated. I'd be frustrated with teams around the Bruins who are neck and neck getting better while the Bruins stand pat.

Ideally what i don't want to see is a 6th round pick going for a #6-7 d-man

Has Montreal really got any better, quantity doesn't make quality.I wouldn't mind the Bruins getting Vrbata, think he would be good for third line. But don't want to give to much up,for him.

I'm not saying they are getting better, i just don't want teams to get better...

I could have worded that wrong.

Look st the big picture.

Again you don't go from not making the playoffs to winning the cup, you need to improve and gain playoff experience. If this was a solid deep draft maybe I would agree, it isn't. Move some picks for a player or two up front, move Morrow/Liles to create space. A team with Jimmy Hayes on it's third line is doomed to failure.

Vrbata this season, 15 goals, 32 assists, 47 points, - 15. Age 35
Stempniak, prior to deadline last year: 16 goals, 25 assists, 41 points +3. Age 33 (last year)

A Vrbata pick up would be the same exact move as picking up Stempniak last year. Not a fan, unless it's straight up for Jimmy Hayes or Matt Belesky. No more wasting picks.

Vrbata at list has skill which we can use. If it's cheap. Stempniak was a desperate chance at a Marchand-Bergeron-Recchi repeat and failed miserably.

I watched Heinen play at Denver at least 15-20 times over the two years prior to his signing with the B's and I'm not sure I have seen a more complete forward in quite awhile. This kid sees the ice extremely well and can play in every situation. While he lacks Marchand's nastiness, I would not categorize him as being "soft" (a term you seem to throw around a lot), and I would say he's a helluva lot smarter than Marchand was at that age.

Cehlarik is the flavor of the month, but I think Heinen will be a better NHL player eventually. Kirk has him rated 1st on his list of B's pro level prospects, despite his struggles during his 7 game cameo with the B's.

If you (all not just Fenian) haven't listened to this podcast, you probably should. Kirk does a great job with the prospects and also with his commentary on the HF mentality

I still like Heinen and Czarnik and think both have top6 potential.

I think every prospect goes through some transitional slumps and almost without fail, that's the same point in time when a lot of fans jump off the bandwagon. It even happened with Marchand after his first 20 game cup of coffee in the NHL.

That said, I think the reason Heinen is in a lot of rumors is because A) he is a good prospect that folks would call on and consider real value, B) we have a glut of LH forwards and they probably can't all play on this team at the same time and lastly, for me at least, there's some question about "fit." This is a team that's trying to change their identity and be a team that plays fast and I'm not sure that's a good fit for Heinen's style. Heinen reminds me a bit of Eriksson in terms of being really smart and skilled but not necessarily a guy who's going to mesh Pasta the way Marchand or Cehlarik has, or Spooner/Vatrano. Czarnik plays fast. Bjork plays fast...

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong about that... I would have thought Backes would be a center by now, with Spooner and Vatrano (speed) on his wings. That's the model I thought they were going for, Dependable two-way guys like Bergeron, Krejci and Backes down the middle, guys who can win battles and get you out of your end quickly, and then speed and skill on the wings to take advantage of teams in transition.

shown life but a lot of fans are calling for the duck boats already ....LMAO

Yes because making the playoffs would be terrible instead of selling and getting great draft picks year after year that you can then trade for more draft picks. Worked out well for years in Edmonton.

For the right price I'd take Stafford. He is having a poor year, and the price is probably suppressed, but I think he may be a better fit than Vrbata, and for a lot less

FWIW, Vrbata has historically been a much more effective player than Stempniak and Stempniak's performance was more of an outlier.

I'm fine so far. I've seen no players moved that address the specific needs of the Bruins.

1. No rental.
2. Top six winger.
3. Top pairing defenseman.
4. Cheap 3rd line RW non-rental.
5. Upgrade on back-up goalie.

When one of those goes down and the Bruins are not involved then I think it's fair to discuss criticism of Sweeney.

Agreed, the old cliche applies here for me, "sometimes the best move is no moves"
