The stalker said that they were the two best prospects we've ever had so either put the stalker on ignore or stop doing revisionist history.

I bet that even with that scouts opinion, if Detroit had 1OA, the GM would still pick Lafreniere. Also you have to remember how scouting works with different AORs. You can fall in love with a player just because you've seen them much more than another. Hell, some Ranger scout thought Kratsov was the right choice and convinced Gorton to draft him. lolI understand your point and you are right except for one teams scout. The Detroit scout had Tim #1 before the draft not 3 years later. All the others had Laf #1.
Im wondering if Gorton was 100% sure what route he would go whether a trade or another player. I say that because usually if a team is 100% sure they let the pick know. The Rangers knew they had the pick for months but didn't tell Laf till his name was called. I found that a bit unusual.I bet that even with that scouts opinion, if Detroit had 1OA, the GM would still pick Lafreniere. Also you have to remember how scouting works with different AORs. My guess is that Gorton didn't do so simply because there is absolutely no benefit to doing so and yes, there might be an almost unrealistic chance that another team comes at him with a Godfather offer ex Senators offer the 3 and 5 plus Tkachuk, etc.Im wondering if Gorton was 100% sure what route he would go whether a trade or another player. Was god awful on Boston’s winning goal
Go watch the draft video. They said it on there. Maybe they didn't know when they said it. I didn't see that part. When Gorts was talking with Laf and his family on draft night he told him “he had a hard time keeping it a secret” and Laf replied, “yeah, me too”. I watched that happen with my own two eyes on t.v.
Don’t know where it’s coming from that Gorton waited until draft day but it’s not true.
Jovo had pics of Gorts at the zoo trying to kiss a Llama.I bet that even with that scouts opinion, if Detroit had 1OA, the GM would still pick Lafreniere. Ahh gotcha. Here’s the vid I was talking aboutGo watch the draft video. They said it on there. Maybe they didn't know when they said it. I didn't see that part.
Will Cuylle played on powerplay unit 2 last night. Not Laf. That’s all you need to know about how Lavi feels about Laf already.

That eventually becomes a replaceable guy. He’s at worst a middle 6 NHL player that puts up 35-40 points. Obviously not anywhere near his expectations but still a serviceable guy
The only other guy who was talked about as a potential for #1 was Byfield who can’t sniff the league full time.
You can say they should have taken Stuezle in hindsight but the entire hockey world would have laughed at the Rangers taking him 1
I haven't seen the stats but I thought I saw Laf out on the PP. Was that a mistake? Will Cuylle played on powerplay unit 2 last night. Not Laf. That’s all you need to know about how Lavi feels about Laf already.
It sucks to have been so close but not ending up with an elite player. I don't blame anyone. Just the way things go with the draft sometimes.Whatever your view is on Laffy at this stage, and the likelihood of him ever becoming (or getting close to becoming) the player we drafted him to be and that everyone thought he was going to be, the situation is approaching untenable at this stage.

Bedard is more gifted than Laf. He's very good with his hands. He's shifty. His legs are thick AF. His shot is already amazing. He keeps his feet moving and attacks defenders. Laf was more seen as a potential top line, power forward. I know we talk about not developing players, but I think even on this team, Bedard finds success and doesn't get moved around like Laf.Wonder if Chicago is going to start Bedard on the third line. Maybe by Year 3 he’ll be PKing with Vesey
