I don't really think that's true if you consider potential worth something.
Well, after 3 years Daniel and Henrik Sedin had highs of 34 and 39 points respectively. Year 4 Daniel jumped to 54 and and Hank to mid 40s...rest is history after that.
Alex is obviously not D&H but appearance wise he is kind of a Canadian version of them. Here's hoping he follows their trajectory.

Count me as excited. A year older, a year and an off-season better. As a fan, why wouldn't I be want to be hopeful that he's grown?

You could look at this deal a few ways.
A 2/2.3 bridge going into his 4th year is a massive disappointment, if you asked what this deal should/would be the day he was drafted 1OA.
2/2.3 is a pretty good deal for a 44 even strength goal scorer, third on the team over the past 3 seasons (Panarin 49, Kreider, 56)
2/2.3 could look great this year and next if he puts it together at the age of 22-23. If he was worth more right now the Rangers would probably be forced to trade one or two players to fit him in. (Albeit the team would likely be better off because of it).
It is what it is. We’ve covered Laf, his traits, his usage, how we’ve got to this point - ad nauseam.
Congrats on the deal. It’s time put in the work and show this city, fanbase and the world what you are made of over the course of this contract.

Rangers literally had a great summer between signing UFAs to short deals (that they can flip at the deadline if this season is an unlikely mess), drafted the guy with the most skill in the first round, and the icing on the cake was fixing the Ciaccao problem without firing him.

Then he should've been offer sheeted. The Rangers were/are in a position to do nothing to counter it. The proof is in the pudding.

Thats not proof. There have been many chances where many players were offer sheeted over the years and none ever are.
There is some sort of quiet non spoken gentleman’s agreement not to do it. Look at how pissed the Hurricanes were when the Canadiens did it to Aho. The Canes went out of their way to retaliate and sign Kotkaniemi.
It’s an unspoken thing that teams know is hands off.

Talk about no proof, the above is complete conjecture. The facts are he wasn’t offer sheeted despite the fact that the Rangers were very vulnerable to it and the assets going the other direction would’ve been minimal. This speaks to the fact that the teams around the league, including much of this fan base, don’t think he’s taking that next step. I hope that’s not true but this is the evidence before us.

a 40-point player gets 2.3M and people think its too much?
rule of thumb has 10 points worth 1M, so his value is actulally closer to 4M a season.

Everything you wrote is conjecture as well.
We don't know that he wasn't given an offer sheet. All we know is that he didn't sign one. And there are plenty of reasons why players don't receive offer sheets other than the idea that other teams don't value the player. Choosing the one reason that fits your narrative doesn't make you right.
Many teams didn't have the cap space to offer Laf 2.3 mil, never mind the number required to make us not match. That is a fact. Some teams that had the cap space didn't have the draft picks required. That is also a fact. Go look at CapFriendly if you don't believe me.
Beyond that, everything is conjecture.

Not to mention the fear of the Rangers poaching one of their young players in the future as retribution/being blackballed by other GMs around the league, which to me is why it doesnt happen very often. These guys all try to make trades with each other throughout the year and need to sit in board rooms together. Its a bit of a "club" in and of itself.

Absolutely stunning that he signed to the same bridge deal that both Chytil and Kakko signed the last couple years. Both those guys showed real signs of progress the year after signing their bridge so expect the same here. Still just going to be 22 the day before opening night. Hopefully he took his conditioning more seriously this summer.

More than enough, which is refreshing.
Having a few NHL bodies beyond the first 18 skaters is something Gorton sucked at that Drury has dramatically improved on.

As far as an offer sheet goes, you have to remember that the player still needs to sign it.
I don't see anybody overpaying Lafreniere to make an offer he can't refuse.
If something did come in around the same neighborhood, why would he leave New York City, all of his friends, and (by all accounts) one of the best organizations to work for behind the scenes?
