On his recent backhand chance I understood his thinking but when he went backhand he may have had a chance to slide it five hole as the goalie adjusted.
I had the same thought. This is my go to move in hockey. It’s so hard to defend if you disguise your intentions well enough, sometimes even if you don’t. Hill seemed to have that avenue pretty well covered too though - he played really well like most goalies seem to do against this team.

this is all hindsight but a fake shot to get the goalie to move/freeze first would have worked.

5 hole wasn't there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

It's not easy being a turtle (TMNT2)...

No, for real this team isn't going anywhere until Laf, Kakko, Othmann, and so on are the ones leading the team.

I thought I saw the 5 hole open up as the goalie moved from his right to his left. It is a very good and simple move. As you get the goalie side to side moving his pads will split.

I would have to see the replay again to be sure but during the game I was fairly certain I saw the goalies pads open as he went from his right to left. Hard for a goalies pads not to open when moving horizontaly across the goal mouth.

Edit: I just watched the replay. At first Hill had the 5 hole covered with his stick but towards the end it did open up imo. Obviously watching on my phone in hindsight is a luxury Laf didn't have at that time.

his hands are not 'snappy' enough.... if that makes sense.... It sometimes looks like his hands/stick is underwater

He really has to work on that this off-season.
I don’t think that is something you work on lol. But yeah I agree and it’s pretty transparent when comparing him to other elite players.

I looked intently on the initial replay. Stick was there and his pads were tight enough. He didn’t move much laterally. Hill played it perfectly

It’s why I would like a big goalie.

I don't agree, IMO it's something you could definitely improve with purposeful training/drilling. He's not going to be Bedard/McDavid over night but it could be incrementally improved upon...

With how many scoring chances he's getting, that would make a massive difference imo

On pace for 46pts now

Live look in Ed when a guy he doesn't like that plays for the Rangers is struggling.

He’s had the chances to have 20 right now.

Happy he got a greasy one and a gift assist on the EN.

Well earned

I dont think that is a gift assist. He made the entire play.

Made the good defensive play, then the pass.

He earned that assist.

Just think of it as a makeup for all the glorious chances he set up this year that were flubbed.

46 points even with his dreadful finish rate is actually kind of impressive.
This. 45-50p ES pts is actually very good. People fail to realize that high end pt producers rely on the PP for 30-40% of their totals (and as high as 50% in some extreme cases, such as Zib currently).

Take a look around the league at the types of players who put up 45-50 ESP. Thats also a rate that excludes the statistical anomalies that others have highlighted. With a few more bounces or lucky streak, that could be 60 ESP, which is good enough to be in the top 15-20 in ES scoring in most years.
