We know this deal makes no sense for the Rangers but none of this makes sense for the Devils who don’t actually “really really really want Laf”.

Lafs deal doesn't start till next year.

Timo has scored 7 more points than him in 1 extra game this year. Timo is 28 while Laf is 23. Timo makes 8.8 mill to Lafs 2.3 miil. Are those 7 points worth 6.5 mill......nope..

Next year Laf starts his new deal and makes 7.45 mill. Laf is horribly under performing this year but so is the entire Rangers team. Devils are actually a playoff team and Timo has gotten worse since last year. That Timo deal is terrible.

Of course Rangers say no . It’s not even close for a bunch of reasons . Devils just have to suck it up and hope / wait for Timo to get over whatever is bothering him and get hot . He has the ability to do so and can heat up like he did the last part of last season .
