Proposal: Alexis Lafreniere for Timo Meier

Laf is a lot of things and soft isn’t one of them. I’m not bought into the early season success and curious to see what he actually ends up with this year, but even if he is a disappointment he isn’t soft.

Meier is a player who brings a lot in theory the Rangers could use but, A we can’t afford him at all and B he hasn’t been great since getting a big pay day at all.

So… no.

Meier is on pace for ~7 ES goals this season. Laf has already scored 7 ES goals this season. Laf makes 25% of what Meier makes. Nah. We're good.

Meier is also a -17 on a team where the next worst player is a -9. He hasn't had a + game since October.

Devils get a young player who is cheap, albeit soft. Has potential for growth and willing to work with coaches to get better.

Rangers get an expensive player but proven goal scorer who should score a lot with the right line mates. Provides some toughness but does disappear for long stretches.
In the history of the alphabet, there have not been enough L's to effectively make the sound of my Helllll no.
List of things I would trade the Devils:
Contents of bathroom sink trap.
Blankets from a leper colony.
Used Covid swabs.
Nope, no Lafreniere. Sorry.

Meier is coming off an injury and IMO shouldn't even be playing at this time but I'm sure he convinced the coach he is ready .... he is not.

If Meier can’t find a fit with either of Jack Hughes or Hischier, I don’t think the problem is with his linemates.

Meier seems to be bad fit in Jersey. Trades like that lie on your GM. Could kill your rebuild totally

Stop. It.

Brendan Gallagher's contract is for less money per season and doesn't run as long as Meier's contract. Perhaps the Rangers would be interested in trading "soft" Laf for gritty Gally????

We barely had money this season. Even with the cap going up, how to you expect us to fit a near 9 million player?

A value discussion can't even be had because there's no chance it fits.

Calgary would for Huberdeau
Yes, yes we would. I can't think of a player I wouldn't trade Huberdeau for. Maybe Bob because we already have 3 NHL goalies. Even then though, I might still do it.

How much cap is NJ retaining to make this work.

Many proposals on this board are brain dead from the start, this is certainly one of them.

Not realistic. Neither team does this, nor should either team consider it for a split second. Moving on.
