A breather for a player that already plays very limited minutes? If Gallant is going to start with giving breathers out, I'd start with Fox. Dude looks tired out there.
Literally Laf is the one of the people on this team that don't need a f***ing breather. Give me a break. If you look at the scratch list with Laf for that game, you telling me those guys need breathers too?

It wasn't a breather, he was benched. And now after returning he's gonna be playing 4th line minutes.

Oh I know. That was more for the people that were like, "Man it's great the coach is giving him a rest. Kid hasn't played a full season before, he's gassed." It's the people without blinders that realize GG absolutely did not like something about that last game he played. Or maybe it's a combination of all the 0's in the point column and the minuses in the +/- column over his last several games. Defensive liability maybe? Who knows. People that were bitching about him playing only 14 mins a game are going to have their mind blown now. I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to see beyond the PR fluff.

that would be the move. Shore up 6 D for the long term, no holes at LW since we're deep there, give Fox a better partner.... i'd be happy with the trade, even if he goes on to score 80 points in Phoenix
It would be a horrible trade. But if we’re going to scratch our heads debating whether to play him or Reaves in the playoffs then it doesn’t really matter what we’re giving up if we get anything useful back

Has nothing to do with his play. He’s just going to play 5 minutes a night and be battling Kevin Rooney for a roster spot for the rest of the year because he’s tired from his 10 minutes a game
I think we should all wait to see what actually happens with Lafreniere in the next few weeks before getting ahead of ourselves.

I don't think Gallant is flat out lying, Lafreniere has looked a bit gassed the last 2 weeks or so. And it's true that he's never played this many games before. The Goodrow-Chytil-Kakko line played well in their game together so it's not surprising Gallant doesn't want to break them up immediately. I'd be willing to bet we see Lafreniere on that line at some point tomorrow.

I don't mind the rest and reset for Laf. I think his playing style is built for the playoffs and he seems to be a guy who has a flair for the dramatic in his short career thus far so him being well rested going into the playoffs is good and it wouldn't surprise me if he's a depth scoring X-factor for us if we're going to have a run.

Sometimes as a coach you need to remind a guy that he wants to be playing. Gallant did the right thing. I suspect Laf will be hungrier when he gets back on the ice. Zooks sat. JT Miller sat. Fast sat. Kreider sat. Even Leetch was benched (albeit by Keenan). This is nothing. It is silly to make it in to a big deal.

He might be hungrier but with Rooney and Reaves as linemates, he's being asked to eat using steak chopsticks while wearing oven mitts.

If he is hungrier it will show. Rooney is a legit skater. The guys I mentioned played with 4th line guys as well at times. Play hard. Show what you have. If its top 6 talent it will show and you will move up. The cream does rise to the top eventually.

I don't think Gallant wants him to do anything other than not suck defensively and help with their forecheck in the offensive zone.

It's not a complicated task. Help the team win. Be a star in your role.

Not an easy call. We have so many deserving players and that 3rd line just had a great game.
That's never stopped him before. I remember Laf having that amazing game a few weeks back, forgot who, maybe against the Caps? Literally looked like a beast every shift, and next game he barely played. No reward at all. I don't think Gallant is a bad coach by any means, but I'm always in the boat to reward players after good games, ESPECIALLY the young players who need that type of confidence boost.

Meh honestly who cares who's on pp2, they dont get any real pp time anyways
Exactly how I see it as well. They get what, maybe 25 seconds? Barely enough time to even set up a single play because they are being rushed to do something in that time.

Here's a question for you. Based on his numbers, how he's played throughout the season, at this point, do you think he should be playing Top 6 in the playoffs?

With a fully healthy roster? No. But he should be on the 3rd line.
If the 3rd line is dogshit against the Redwings, I expect to see Laf back in it. If they decide to put up points, even with the Deadwings being a shit team, it's going to be a long road for Laf until next season.

And JT is now going to be a 100-point player. It works.
