Exactly, and to take it to another level it's more so a demonstration of how poor the organization has developed players and depth. If they had been doing it appropriately since the letter they would have a pipeline of young forwards ready to come in and fill these spots rather than feeling the need to constantly go out and just give them to vets since they don't actually have any depth in this organization. It's actually astounding that they were able to completely tear everything down, acquire all those pics, and advocate to the fan base to give them time to build this up properly and then completely bought fumble the whole situation so that we're basically back to exactly what we were prior to the letter.
I don't think Drury cares about The Letter. He didn't write it and he would disavow it if asked about it.

Bottom line for Laf is he has to show more. If he shows more he will play more including on the PP. He will be given some chances but he has to step up. Show more. Dominate shifts in minutes 1-10 before worrying about minutes 16 and 17.

Absolutely. 100 f***ing %. He doesn't even need the points to show that he should belong there. Points will come as he starts working harder for them, but all he has been thus far is an okay 3rd line winger. We need him to be more. After this season, whether we make it deep or not, our run for the cup might be over and we might be saying goodbye to some long terms, definitely waving buy to all the rents, and the kids will truly have to take over.

But Red, what about his EV points?

Big f***ing deal. He's a 1OA that's playing against 3rd line talent. He should be skating legit circles around bottom 6 players in the league. A lot of people have Laf in their Top 6 lines, let's see what he does with it.

Exactly-
If Laffy doesn't come into camp in shape, it may be time to move on.
the fact this is even in question tells us everything we need to know. 2 years 2.5 each so his contract is tradeable.

Laf should be embarrassed signing that contract because it is embarrassing for a first overall— but clearly he’s shown nothing to deserve more.

People keep bringing up Tampa losing in 4 to the blue jackets and always leave out their were the best team in the league that year that then fell in their face and learned. That was the start of it for them. Nyr went to conference finals and then fell on their face the next year with a mediocre reg season. I don't see the two comparable at all.

Tampa failed in two ECF's and and SCF before that 4-0 drubbing. And missed the playoffs in between as well. Comparable.

107 is a "mediocre" season like 5' 11" is a "midget".

I know, but the owner was supporting of it and he has clearly changed the directive. Doesn't change my frustration and the feeling that they wasted a couple of years to just go back to the same formula that hasn't worked for decades.

Jones isn't 5 11

Fair enough with Tampa, but even so it's not comparable. Did I miss three straight years of long runs by nyr prior to the flame out last year? Or was there just a single run prior? I can't believe someone is trying to compare nyr today to the Tampa teams of the last 7 years. Holy just looking to argue batman...

So you think Wheeler came here simply to win? You're suggesting that there aren't better teams that would take him for 800k? Of course there are. He's here bc he's going to play w zib or panarin and rebuild his value prior to one more cash in contract. No one wanted him for 4m (half cap hit), he took this deal to rebuild his value. If it was just about winning then he would be with a better team that needs the depth but those orgs wouldn't have been able to promise him the type of role he wants in an attempt to rebuild his value...
This is ridiculous. He's here because he wants to win a cup and he thinks he can with this team. He also knows Trouba well and that may have something to do with it as well. Your assertation that he is here purely to play with Mika or Panarin to build value to then sign another bigger contract when he would be 38 is nonsense. Don't you think he could play with other top players on other top teams if he chose those teams for 800k?

I specifically said it’s completely possible. That’s all. I’m not pretending I can read anyone’s mind. Not Wheelers and not the coach’s. And I’m not convinced you have that ability either. So you can predict whatever you want, I’ll wait and see before I start claiming the sky is falling. You do you though. Guy cost 800k and can be buried if need be. It’s objectively a good value signing. Your opinions and predictions are just opinions and predictions. I’m not going to bother getting worked up about it.

Sigh, what high end contender is handing him a top 6 role right now as a player bought out bc no one wanted him at 4m? What high end contender has a gaping hole at rw in their top 6 to hand him a spot. Are you really so dense you don't think this is a move to build value for a final contract? Come on. What the hell did you expect him to say? Every player compliments their new team and says what people want to hear, hell troy stetcher just spoke about how great the coyotes are when he signed there. I can't believe how derailed this is getting. If wheeler isnt signing to rebuild his value and it's all about winning in nyr then it isn't a 1 year deal. This is a show me deal.

And you bring up Wheeler and trouba knowing each other like they were buddies, Wheeler actually publicly questioned trouba when he held out while I'm Winnipeg. There were plenty of comments that they weren't always seeing eye to eye. Who knows how that has evolved but it isn't like they loved each other and it's hard playing with straka again

You're the one arguing again my opinion and projections with your own opinions and projections haha

I've said this is other comments to other people, I don't have an issue with Wheeler in a vacuum, my issue is more so to do with the fact he is coming here to play in the top 6 but does nothing to address the issues of our forwards and their deficiencies as a group. That's literally it. Somehow that turned into me thinking he's a "scrub" and all kinds of other crap which I never said. That's not directed solely at you but it's just exhausting to state a specific opinion and then have people start jumping on you for things you didn't even say.

Nope. I just said I could see Wheeler thinking he can win here. I didn’t say it’s definitely what he’s thinking. Again I don’t read minds. I didn’t say you said he was a scrub… where’s that coming from? Maybe someone else did that? He’s a RW who scored 55 points last year and we are thin on RW and scoring from RW… I said its a good value deal. I suggested that we don’t KNOW how the coach will use him yet… What is outrageous about any of that? You’re getting worked up over me refusing to get worked up. Hahaha. You may even end up being right, but I’m not going to get upset over anything that may not happen.
if I made you feel like I was jumping on you, or dog piling on, I did a poor job of expressing myself, and you have my apology.
