Was this posted? I agree that none of them shoot and definitely defer. Especially Laff. Kid can't wait to throw the puck to someone. Hot potato.

I think this is 100% accurate. Of all of the kids, Chy is the one that seems to want to always shoot the puck or calls for the puck. I can't blame KK for passing off, because that's this whole team's mantra. I'll give Laf a tiny bit of blame for passing off, simply because when you're in a scoring draught like him, passing it off and hoping someone finishes a play for you to get a point isn't going to help get the monkey off his back.

Hughes hit 30 goals today. Tied for a career high in points (56) in less games than last year, and he played half a season last year. If you took his PP points away this year, he'd still have double the points than Laf, and they're only 5 months apart in age. Compared to his peers with similar ages and production, I'm really curious about what they're going to pay him. This off-season is going to be amazing to watch.

I can't see him getting paid more than Kakko and making the same as Chy. Still, can't low ball him since Sammy B is making 1.5. Miller is going to get the lion's share, I'm thinking. Especially since our Cap is making 8 and Linds is making 3.

Breadman is so funny, he is only joking when he says "give me the puck haha".

Kakko literally said that his job is to get Zib and Kreider the puck when he is playing with them. And NOW Gallant is saying he has a problem with the kids feeding the puck to the vets?

My god. Shoot this guy into the sun already, NOW he figures out that the kids deferring is a problem? Holy f*cking shit. It's like this hasn't been an issue driving this board nuts FOR YEARS.

Gallant is basically providing example A on why we can't develop young forwards in that quote.

Gallant: We've got this problem where all our young forwards lack confidence and defer to the veteran players on their line.

Any reasonable human being: That's certainly a problem. We're going to talk to them and try to teach them not to do that anymore right?

Gallant: No, we're just not going to let them play with veteran players anymore.

I’m sure his confidence is rattled, but I really don’t think it’s so simple. He could think he was Connor McDavid every time he stepped on the ice, he still wouldn’t produce. He simply doesn’t have a single tool that is elite. I just don’t see a single stand out tool that he’s going to utilize when his confidence is high that’s going to make him a daily threat. His ceiling is budget Landeskog. Which is essentially Callahan, but he’s gonna have to find the heart and motor those two have to get there. I wanted to like Laf way more than KK, Chytil, Krav, but the fact is that he is genuinely the least talented of the group. His skillset is closer to Lias Andersson than Chytil or Kravtsov. He doesn’t do anything well right now and even if he was feeling himself and playing with a full tank of confidence, I don’t seek him doing anything enough above average to be anything more than a Neiderreiter or Bailey type.

The only thing I can hold out hope for at this point is that he can figure out how to play like Draisaitl. I feel the same way about him (he has no skills that just wow you). I don’t watch him play every day, but whenever I do, I have a hard time figuring out how/why he is so good (other than the fact that he is out there with McD). He’s perhaps the ugliest skater I have ever seen.

Laf is supposed to be a nonstop motor guy with high end skill. You don’t have to be the fastest skater in the league to excel in that style, although it would help a whole lot. I see him gliding way too often, and that takes him out of the play both on and off the puck. That definitely could be a confidence thing.

I joked earlier in the thread that the team is waiting for Panarin's contract to expire in the 25-26 season to make room for Lafreniere to play real minutes in 26-27 but is that even a joke at the moment or is that the actual reality of the situation?

I don't see a world where Lafreniere is ever given ice time over Panarin or Kreider. Barring an injury or one of those players moving to RW (which this team won't do) what exactly is supposed to change in the next few seasons? Are the Rangers just hoping Panarin or Kreider suffer long term injury or fall off a cliff?

Does this team have any sort of plan for turning things around with Lafreniere or are they just going to keep marching along with the status quo and pray for a miracle?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
He's been given the ice time, he was still worthless.

OK, so we should trade him.

He's not going to get better getting 14 minutes a night perpetually blocked by Panarin and Kreider.

Is the plan to just sit here and watch a somewhat valuable asset deteriorate into dust?

In case you haven't noticed I've criticized Lafreniere here and elsewhere.

I'd just like to know there's some sort of plan here beyond waiting until 26-27 to see what we've got with him.

Play him or trade him.

Sorry I honestly thought this was the main board when I replied to this, my mistake.

I'd say you guys should trade him before there is no trade value left, just my opinion.

LOL. We just can't resist as a franchise can we? Same old Rangers. Trading top picks in favor of win-now overpaid veterans like Panarin.

We deserve every bit of scrutiny for that.

If they trade Laf, I hope he goes off on the entire league just so this franchise will finally learn the lesson.

When do we get to have a homegrown FORWARD talent who's an offensive dynamo BEFORE age 25 who we get to watch in the prime of his career for a decade?

Been waiting my whole life. Still waiting. But, hey, kid's gotta earn it right? About to be the first #1 overall forward since 1965 who hasn't scored a single powerplay goal in his first 3 seasons, but he sucks because he's producing on par with a veteran 29 year old making $5.6M a year at even strength and only gets garbage PP time.

Wait, what's that? The last #1 who also didn't score a PP goal in his first 3 years was ALSO a Rangers draft pick (Andre Veilleux)? Well shit.

At least Laf can’t kill Kappo’s scoring because Kappo does not score either so this reunion of the kid line is probably so Laf won’t destroy any of the other guys who actually can score. I kid but it’s almost kidding on the square.

I don't know what player development and the coaching staff did to Laf over the break, but you can see their guidance shining through. Since they are ultimately why our kids fail, they deserve all the credit tonight for motivating Laf to look the best on the kid line tonight.

Actually had a semi breakaway. Montour is a good skater cut him off a bit.
Obvious that he has more confidence playing with the Chytil/Kakko.

Laf will come into his own when he gets his man strength. Lot of different situations, 1v1s, where he tries playing a power game and you know what he's trying to do, but just can't pull it off consistently. The added strength should aid in his skating as well. Those are things that'll come in time. He's definitely a more comfortable player with KK and Chytil. More confident playing his own game rather than always looking for a veteran
