4 of his 5 goals have been tap-ins, he's spent most of the season being invisible, what has he shown that indicates 30 goals on a different team THIS YEAR? Hopefully, someday, but this year? This seems totally insane to me.

you could say the same about 14 of 15 of kreiders goals.

Being in the right position for a tap in is a great ability

As someone who defended his tap ins, I will say Kreider's goals are a little bit more complex. He's not deflecting them into empty nets. Not taking anything away from Laf, but Kreider learned how to deflect goals at an amazing level.

Laf has had shitty centers.

No one helps him. None of our centers drive the line or help make their line better. Chytil to an extent, when he's skating. Zibs has been shit for 2 seasons now. They had a decent run to end the season last year.

He is best served to move to the right and play with Panarin. DEAL WITH IT Laf. 'not comfortable' you're not being asked to shoot right handed. Or he will have to learn to drive play and create space for himself

I've said this before on the main boards. Kakko and Laf have had very awkward entrances into the NHL because of the Rangers top two centers and then it was made worse with Quinn trying to neuter their creativity. You need very creative wingers to work with Mika and Strome because they are not your traditional centers. As much as Quinn wanted Kakko and Laf to play N S hockey it was just never going to work with Mika and Strome as your centers. A Kakko that feels confident to play his game should help Mika out. Laf was given a shot with Mika but he still has the stink of Quinn on him but eventually he'll get his confidence back to play his game. You can ask Kakko and Laf to play responsible hockey without making them N S grinders and that's something Quinn didn't understand but Gallant does. Kakko has stated before how he was forced to dump the puck in when he reached the blue line when he was coached by Quinn and I'm sure Laf probably got the same earful. Dump and chase hockey is not going to work with the current rangers top 2 centers.

You could, but that would be extremely stupid to compare consistent ability to get deflection goals with sporadic tap ins.

Another good game tonight. I know he hates the right but I really want to see him there with Strome and Panarin

Kreider Laf Kakko :sarcasm:

but seriously... If he takes his play to another level... this team has so many layers that could f*** on you

He’s playing really well lately along with the rest of that third line. They’ve done everything but score so far, but I don’t doubt the goals will come.

He almost put a Hawk through the boards with a hit last night.Hes really picked up his physical play

he's trying out there. he's been the best player on his line. it's just unfortunate that Gauthier and Chytil are legally not allowed to score goals.

I'm looking forward to the day Laf and Kakko both have the overall game to play top-6 on the same line. Just need a C who complements their game.

Playing with two fast guys in Chytil and Goat has helped his game a lot. They’ve opened up space for him and he’s starting to play with the puck on a string, deking guys along the boards and making good passes.

Once he’s playing with full confidence out there other players are gonna have to start respecting his puck skills regardless of what his line mates are doing.

Keep that line together. Laf is getting more creative by the game as well as getting more physical so something's working.

Boys, this is the real deal, a skilled player that plays a nasty physical game with lots of emotion. Laf doesn't have to carry the team, he doesn't need to do anything other than go out there and get whatever he can while having fun. The game will slow down for him as he gets experience and his confidence will continue to grow. And when he finds his scoring touch at the NHL level, we will have a complete player. And then I'd give him some reps at center just to see if the hockey gods are with us.

I normally meme around or pay no mind to 'move <insert player> to Center'

but after last game, I'm hoping he keeps this play up, because I actually believe he can make the move to Center.

Yeah, I hear you man on the center thing. The reason I think Laf would have a better chance than most wingers is that he's already so engaged in willing the team to win even as a low contribution third liner. When he moves up lines and starts scoring, I think he'd go through a brick wall for the team and it's that commitment that could help him make that move successfully because center is a thankless position, almost as bad as goalie.

Laf to center would be so sexy.

No but laf ending up as 2C probably won't happen. It would also solve every problem we have.

-no 2c
-Laf not getting enough playing time
-cap crunch

Sure it's over multiple seasons, and he's on the older end of his draft class, but in a normal world, i think we'd be quite happy with a 29 pt rookie season & 7 GWGs.

As is he's T-3rd on the team in goals, and has more goals than 2/3rds of our top 6, including both of our top 6 C's

EDIT: Hell, for that matter, an 18 goal "season" is nothing to scoff at either.

He's a 'rush' player. He makes nice little passes on the breakout but he is not in-sync with his linemates. Chytil and Gauthier are not 'seeing' the game at the same level. Chytil might be the most awkward linemate in terms of how he plays without the puck while possessing

Put him back with Zibs and Kreider
