I mean, individual “wow” moments? Not that much. But he was a 100+ point player before being eligible to be drafted and a guy that impacted the game in all zones. Depends on your definition of “wow” I suppose.
I’ll say his numbers in juniors are wow, truthfully Steve K said it best….the kid absolutely dominated every level and was head and shoulders above his peers….he’s going to be fine

He's a bull.

Go show me 'Draisaitl' high skill 'wow moments'. Elite Hockey Sense, Vision and Hands. Obviously the levels are all varying but Laf has much more tenacity.

Draisaitl was no where near the player he is now when he was 20. The game has changed tremendously as well. Add limited playing time from Covid and David Quinn.... and we're here.

Lafreniere will be a great player for us. He will be a pivotal piece in the postseason.

TBH I do not like him on the left. I think his game is better served at Center or on RW. He only has his forehand option on the left wall. He's capable of making backhand plays on the right side or cutting in the middle. IT gives him more options and make it harder to defend.

Coming down the left wall sort of 'traps him' and limits him. He needs to get comfortable on his offwing or try center.

Hot take but Laf is a better skater than Drai, or at least will be at their primes. Drai is Subban tier of ugly skating mechanics lol

Laf has 26 pts in 75 games played over 2 COVID half seasons. Drai had 9 pts in his first 37 games and then got rolling the next season with 51 pts over 72 games. Laf will find the game slowing down for him as he gets a full season of games and practices in and the points will come. He will also have the physicality and defensive play down at the NHL level, something that he wouldn't have had the luxury to learn on a bad team.

Would love him at center.

I wrote earlier in the season that he was avoiding contact and not even competing for some loose pucks. It was like he didn't have confidence in his strength (or was hiding an injury).

Physical Laf is back and more engaged than before. Crushing hits and a fight? He's also carrying the puck more and looking to make plays instead of playing Hot Potato.

Next step: Gimmie five shots on goal.

The amount of times Chytil gets kicked from the draw you'd think was laf was the center.

His fight was as obviously fake as Wade Redden's when Redden was being drummed off the team. It's the "I know I suck but watch how much I care" show.

Put that effort into battling for the puck along the boards and then maybe we'll take notice.

Let's get him at Center with Panarin.

The most criminal thing is we haven’t seen him be able to use it way way more
I would love to see him take stromes place on the first power play. They need another leftyand it would give him a lot more opportunities to use that shot

Rewatching the highlights of the game. Laf really has a beautiful shot he just needs to use it more often
he has a really powerful snap shot and quick release. It will only get better as well.

It's why I don't like him on the left side. It's never really a threat to cut in to use it. He needs to learn how to play on the Right Wing, or alternatively, at Center

Laf has some very good hands when he gets space. He is very good at lifting the puck on his backhand and forehand in close. He just has to find a way to get more space.
It's like the players all say - at first the NHL game moves so fast you can't make the plays that got you drafted and then it slows down. Laf just played game 76 so he's still in that process.

It’s his skating. One power off-season working on his lower body and your looking at a completely different player.
If he can get that 3-step explosion that kakko has added, watch out, because this kid has overall better hands, better shot, and a better toolbox

I really believe he's better served in the middle or the right.

I think it is partly skating but a large part is also vision, experience and just the mental speed of the game.
