This is just so misleading.

SH% First 82 games at 5v5.

Laf 19%
Stamkos 10.6% (His 79 game rookie season)
Tavares 9.8%
To be fair most of his shots come off rebounds right around the crease or tap ins so his SH% is going to be high for that reason alone.

He cut to the net on that one and got a little stuff shot onto Soros, but man, I know he's young but I just wanna see a 1st overall move there that beats the goalie in anyway.

I need more reasons to believe its going to happen sooner rather than later

He's a 'rush' player. He makes nice little passes on the breakout but he is not in-sync with his linemates. Chytil and Gauthier are not 'seeing' the game at the same level. Chytil might be the most awkward linemate in terms of how he plays without the puck while possessing

Put him back with Zibs and Kreider

I wouldnt mind seeing some changes with Kakko and Laf either.

Someone mentioned putting both of them with Strome. He is our most creative offensive center right now and I'd love to see that but we all know they arent breaking up him and Bread.

And thats a big part of the problem with this team. I wonder what these two would be up to with a true play driving center.

Here's the simple problem with Laf, really. His projection was "elite grinder" in the mold of Crosby. There's no line right now that plays an elite grinding game. We might actually be overtly killing his development, as the main boards claim. Right now, he's looking pass-first on offense or what can I do in terms of a deception-type of play around the perimeter rather than funneling it to the hole.

I think the problem is he's not a very good player yet.

Kid has to go in to each shift determined to get a shot on net. Its not the ideal way to play but he just is not getting enough production so do what it takes to raise it and hopefully his confidence.

Man, every now and then I revisit this video to go to exactly the 1 minute mark. I don’t know why I do this to myself. Maybe in some hope that maybe some time soon, he actually does what they say was going to happen.
“Instant impact”
“Expect 60 points in his first season”

In his time in the NHL the one ability he has definitely shown is being able to shoot the puck and score if he's put in good position. That's never going to happen playing with Chytil and Gauthier.

The flipside is he's shown no vision and no ability to create his own shot or opportunities for others so I don't completely fault Gallant for not wanting to feed him a ton of minutes in the top 6 right now.

The team needs a center that can do stuff.

It's so weird, because having great vision was supposedly his number 1 skill when he was drafted. And so far at the NHL level, his vision is terrible. Can't explain it.

It's a tough jump from the CHL. You can be a second ahead of everyone there and suddenly find yourself a bit behind in the NHL. Sometimes guys really are that naturally talented and they eventually adapt. Sometimes they don't. I think he'll get better but I'm not sure he's going to be more than just a "solid" player, despite his age and inexperience.

If he just pans out to be a 3rd liner, well- it's kinda our Ranger luck isnt it?

Finally get the 1OV, but its not a Crosby, McDavid or Matthews. Sloooow burn.

Not there yet of course. Aint gonna be there for a few years. But not looking too hot right now

Vision but maybe even moreso, poise.

He just doesn't have the puck on his stick much, when he does it seems like he just gets rid of it and has no time or space to do anything. That's mostly on that's on him, good players make time and space for themselves.

He doesn't take much risk either ive noticed. When he gets the puck below the dots in the offensive zone he usually just cycles it high to the point. Haven't really seen him try to walk a defenseman out of the corner or anything like that or stop and start and try to buy time and space.

It's frustrating being a Ranger fan.......

Hahaha it really would be the most Ranger'ish thing to happen, right?

Cut it out @Crease

We don't even need him to be Matthews, McDavid, or Crosby good. Not even Tavares good. But f***ing at least be RNH or Hall good.
