Maybe I’m stretching here, but I feel like he has been a lot more noticeable the past 3-4 games. Still plenty of mistakes, lazy forechecks, etc, but he’s touching the puck a lot, and the points are coming as a result.

He's going to be good in a year or two. He's already doing great things out there every night. He had a beautiful pass to Zib in the neutral zone that looked like was going to give zib a break away if he didn't cough up the puck.

No this is spot on. He is at least getting possession a lot more now, and actually doing more things with the puck. Still lazy on the forecheck and lot of floating.

He has that elite passing ability Panarin has where sometimes dont think a pass has a 1% chance of going to them, then it hits their stick. A lot of players made that comment about adjusting to playing with Panarin last year and I'm sure a little of that may be a factor this year.

The pass to Ziba and the Strome assist is Elite passing. Give this kid time to grow into his frame a little more and work on his first couple strides and he will easily be a 20+55+ guy.

a real good recent trend has been unfolding the last few games: quinn is giving the kid more shifts. it's about goddamn time already. would love to him double the amount of shot attempts. most guys drafted that high tend to get off 3-4 shots a game in their rookie year. before the last few games the kid would get about 2.

points in the last three games and you call it a stretch?

Surely I don’t need to explain to you the difference between scoring points and playing well.

I’m saying that outside of the points, I’m noticing that he’s touching the puck a lot more and appears to be more active. I want nothing more than for the kid to succeed, so was seeking additional confirmation that my eyes aren’t playing tricks on me.

Same story with every player:

Is xGF good?
If NO, bad player.
If YES, is GF good?
If NO, good player with bad luck.
If YES, good player with correct luck.

*yawn

Well...pretty much.

Besides, that’s not like “Alexis Lafreniere has 69 expected goals”, it’s literally every shot location, shot type, and what happened after the shot.

You don’t even have to look at the ixG, the shot locations are the main thing.

I wrote that at the same time you posted the chart, so it looked like a response, but had nothing to do with that specifically.

Shot location, xGs, etc. all interesting, to a point. I find it lazy to just throw everything that troubles those data points into 'luck'.

Then again, I'm not ever in here saying or even implying the kid's a bust or something. Just really unimpressed/concerned with what I'm seeing from a player development pov.
