I think I found the best comparison for Romanov. If every thing goes very well with him in his progression, I think he can be a sort of Charlie McAvoy. He has work to do to attempt McAvoy level and I'm not saying he will be as good as him, but there is a lot of similarity in their game.
Ya I think McAvoy is an appropriate comparable. I still question if he has the offensive tools to be that 50+ point dman some think he can be, but he's got great athleticism and is very poised. He's got no glaring flaws.

He likes to get the puck to the net.

I think that will start to show up on his point totals soon.

He'll adjust and know when to shoot, when to pass and how to get his shot through traffic. But I think he'll always be someone who likes to get the puck to the net.

Maybe that can wear off on some others who like to make stupid passes instead

I don't know if it's 100 % positive though. Yes I like that he's not scare to put puck on the net but sometimes he should try to create a passing line or he should give the puck to a teammate who is better positioning for a shot. Sometimes he take a shot with no one in front of the net and it's an easy save for the goalie and we loose possession of the puck because of that. That's a details that I have a see from him at the WJC to and that the reason why I have doubt on his offensive potential

Have anybody in mind?

Not going to call any player out this early and it has improved this year with the new addictions. Without naming names... the ones who don't have good shots and think a pass is the better option when they are in shooting areas.

You can look at that in two different ways yes but IQ kicks in when you are running out of space.. Do you pass it into clutter on the side walls or throw it at the net with traffic. I like pucks directed at the net and a D that scrambles where our forwards regain the puck because they are scrambling.

I agree that sometimes it’s the best play to do but there is time where he doesn’t have pressure and he has the time to make a play but he shoot the puck to the net with no one in front and it’s an easy save for the goalie.

If there is a pass of value, Romanov will see it. Otherwise, put the rubber on the net and force the other teams D to scramble outside of their system while they chase for loose pucks.

That’s the problem I have though and why I question is offensive abilities. He dosen’t seem to look to find the open guy like Markov did very well to create a good scoring chance. He’s trying to shoot and even if his shoot is good, it’s not a weapon like Subban and Weber.

I don't know about that. I don't think we can pretend to know his vision limitations this early. I know what you are talking about and have seen though. I feel he sees those side passes but he also sees traffic at the net and values that shot attempt that might go through. I support this but he needs to balance it of course

Take a look next game. Sometime he could fake a shoot to open passing lane or he could take the space that the other give him to create a passing lane but he will take the shoot from the blue line. Markov was really good at doing that. It’s not a major problem but that’s some details that make the difference between a 40 pts and + D and a 30 pts guy.

I know what you are talking about. I've been watching him closely. We have to remember he is a rookie and he is still growing. He does like to shoot pucks at the net and this might come from how he was groomed by the KHL

I know he’s a rookie and he will improve but that’s sometimes he was doing to at the WJC. Offensive instincts are not something you can really learn

Just cause he likes to shoot, it don't mean he is limited with his vision. You see that pass he made to Tatar against the Leafs? There is nothing you can say to me that will convince me his offensive instincts are limited

Well, you know, maybe you are right, but the thing is, if you enter Markov into the comparable it would be nice to remember how Markov was after 5-6 NHL games...

Yes he’s really good in transition and I always said it, his 1st pass his awesome and it’s probably his best asset but in the Ozone he won’t create offence

They should look at how Romanov changes the angle to get by the first wave of shot blockers with his point shots.

Always frustrated me watching Habs Dmen consistently get their point shots blocked.
