This may be unpopular but I was never sold on Sergachev being a stud d-man. I just don't see it. A good d-man? Sure.

Romanov though...I am sold. At same age he's significantly better IMO.
Sergachev has better offensive tools, but I like Romanovs IQ a lot more. Don't think we would be this upset about the Sergachev for Drouin trade if the trade was with Minnesota instead of Tampa. That being said, having both Sergachev and Romanov would make our defense from concerning to very good.

With the emergence of Romanov and Petry, we may have one of the better d cores in the league right now.

Defensively, I'm impressed with his gap control the most. He closes in on guys like a bullet and separates them from the puck like 99% of the time. And he has such a great stick in the corners and along the boards. He'll win the board battle and then come out with the puck, then his effortless skating allows him to begin the transition. Really a thing of beauty to watch as a hockey fan.

Sergachev is a stud Dman though.. He's 22 and already has three seasons of 32 points or more.

In Tampa Bay...a team that has like 12 players who are a PPG.

When i look at makar, hiskanen, Dahlin, etc... those are the ones you really want.

Sergachev, Romanov and all that are the next tier.

I personally find Romanov more complete than Sergachev but in any case I find people here keep acting like Sergachev will win a norris one day. He's so far behind that first tier so I don't even care we lost him. It certainly helps seeing Romanov look this comfortable, this soon without playing on NA ice. No CHL, no AHL and he looks very comfortable. Very promising.

I don't think anyone thinks Sergachev is a norris winning D, he's a #2-#3, like Romanov will be, still a f***ing joke to trade that away for Drouin.

Some feel he will end up a star here. Its always possible but man so many young talented players and he doesn't match up so...

A #3 probably, yeah. Not there yet either. I actually think Drouin and Sergachev are equal talents. If we had a shitload of bluechip D prospects and top end d-men Sergachev would've been a thing of the past.

I think Drouin is a PPG in Tampa Bay(not necessarily by his doing. Just a loaded team) so its all relative to where they're playing too.

In your head
This guy is a beauty, our best D after 5 games, he improved our D by a good margin.

The most amazing thing about him is his composure with the puck, when he's under pressure, he's able to stay calm and make a perfect pass almost everytime. He does that in the defensive zone and during the PP. He will lure the opponent who will commit and pressure him thinking that he will be able to get the puck and then Romanov is able to sneak a perfect pass, that's useful during the PP, because it opens a lot of space.

If you think Drouin adn Sergachev are equal talents, maybe its because you haven't been paying attention, thats f***ing ridiculous.

Having Romanov and Sergachev would be sick, Romanov is clearly more complete but Sergachev has a career .47 ppg from age 19 to 21. Yes he was on stacked team but he was 1 goal away from the team lead for defensemen while being 21. Having both would set us up nicely for years to come while still having all the other d prospects.

The reality of the NHL is starting to catch up with him. Also, he needs to learn that taking a shot is not always the best decision in the offensive zone.

I suspect that the staffs will work with him during the time off. He seems to have a high IQ so he should process it well.

Did not expect Romanov to be shooting and attempting to shoot so much, considering his KHL goal totals. I like it. He should easily be a 40 plus point guy a year in short order.

He was always a shooter first and foremost, he's been like this since his MHL days. He has a heavy clapper too, but doesn't use it enough

I don't think Sergachev would've been so good in Montreal.Tampon are one of the top teams and they would make anyone look good. Romanov looks to have all the tools necessary to thrive in Montreal.

How did you infer from what I wrote that he's not meeting my expectations?

Still a better player than Romanov at this point.

I don't know how you watch Romanovs effectiveness and come to this conclusion, we never agree on anything anyway, pretty much the polar opposite, so I shouldnt be surprised.

Sergachev and Romanov would’ve been a god send with Weber eventually going out and Petry slowly aging. Having all 4 at once would’ve currently would’ve made our current D a powerhouse. How you can say in one of your previous post that you view Drouin and Sergachev as an equal talent is pure cringe. That trade was a huge bust. Time for some people to accept it.
