this is me whining or being too much of a fan but this injury is tragic to the story. I know its just sports but everyone had him written off last year and I definitely had my doubts. It kind of seemed like he was going to limp to the record and then all of a sudden he was himself again. On pace to crush 50 goals at 39 years old and sprint to the record. Really hoping he comes back in a month feeling the same way. He likely gets the record either way but I would have really enjoyed the 50 + goal season to break the record for his haters.

Fak.

Time he will miss + he will need some games to be in shape again.
sounds crazy but Id bet they have exercises he can do during this time to maintain some of his current in shape status.

Missing a Month of workouts isn't going to help matters.

On the positive side, the team was doing an excellent job of managing his minutes, so that will help.

I need him to break the record this year.

Breaking it as a top player in the NHL this year is so much better than breaking it next year as an average winger.

How do you know he will be average next year? They've been saying this about him every year.

Sounds like you made a bet for it to happen this year. haha

New Jersey fan coming in peace.

I was extremely upset to hear Ovi went down like this. Especially with the unbelievable start he's had to this season and all the momentum he had going. Hopefully he'll be back for the first game of the new year at the LATEST. Wishing him a quick recovery. Anxiously waiting for him to break this record. Just not at the expense of the Devils, please. :) His is more than welcome to score all he wants on the Rangers. Thank you. LOL.

I don't have a bet going, but if he ends up 3-7 goals short at the end of the RS, we know where to point the finger of judgement, Mr McBain!

I wouldn’t be shocked if Ovy was looking to play in under 4 weeks. Like at all.

Oddly enough, first bone I ever broke (and only, to date) was my left fibula. I cracked it in 2 places falling down some stairs. I was a little older than Ovy….. LOL.

So I know the injury. I didn’t even know I’d broken it until 2 weeks later (long story). It heals quickly and without much help. Unless it was shattered, which I doubt.

Sounds like you got all banged up and fell down the stairs. Haha.

What could this mean

Not a doctor but that's about what I'd expect from a fracture, probably just feels like one hell of a bruise. It's a pretty big f***er of a bone compared to something in the hands or feet and not likely something you need to immobilize, if it needed any significant brace my hunch is that we'd be talking bigger than "hairline".

Basically try not to crack it again, let bone do what it does and be quietly overjoyed that this ended up a bone injury and not some kind of ligament damage.
