Mike Vogel was just on Grant & Danny. "He's hobbling around. He's on crutches"

He did add that he was "hopeful" it wasnt too bad given that Ovechkin got up on his own and skated off on his own power.

Edited to add Tweet from Grant:
I’m not an orthopedist but I bet if there’s any suspected injury to the MCL or any other ligaments, the first order of business would be crutches and an immobilizing brace to stabilize the knee until they can have imaging done and know exactly what they’re dealing with. You don’t want a partial tear to become a full tear.

I broke my foot a few years ago (minor fracture) and was on crutches for a few days before getting treatment. Was back playing in about 10 days IIRC.

All that to say, in Ovi’s case I think crutches would be a given for at least the first couple days post-injury, regardless of long term prognosis.

Wasn't he on some crazy streak a couple of years ago and then his father passed and it messed everything up?

Hockey Gods are jerks. Only been nice to us once.
No, people keep saying this, though. He finished that year pretty strong.

Carbery said “it isn’t season ending but he is week to week” which is very broad. The season ends in April and it’s only November. To me it sounds like he will probably be out a month. Obviously speculating/reading between the lines but it doesn’t make much sense to state “it’s not season ending” if he will only be out a week. Also probably want to be cautious to not bring him back too early given his age.

From NHL.com:

"Prior to the injury, Ovechkin had a career-high shooting rate (23.8 percent, 94th percentile; career average: 13.0); his previous high was 15.4 in 68 games during the 2019-20 season. Per NHL EDGE stats, Ovechkin has eight shots of at least 90 miles per hour this season, the second most among forwards behind Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres (10), and his top shot speed (94.98 mph) ranks ninth at the position."

It's really a shame that this likely took away an opportunity at the Richard at age 39. 895 is still in reach this season even if he misses ~20 games or so, but it seems awfully unlikely he's going beat out the field this year. Capping off the chase to 895 with a Rocket would have been something special.

we've got 9 games the next 3 weeks, if he's back for the Dec 12 game that would be 24 days/9 games missed; hope he's back before then; who knows, with Matthews not even on this continent right now and a little love from The Hockey Gods OV could be right back in the race for 43/50/Rocket/900 this season
