They’re gonna lose Malkin and Letang soon and I will be first in line to drink their tears when that happens. Both of these guys are on the last year of their contract and they will demand too much money for diminishing returns.

Burke will do the smart thing and let them go, then they can properly fall back down to the basement of the league where they belong.

Meanwhile Ovi’s killing the league in year 17 and they have no more objections left except PEDs. We’re definitely in a better position than they are even if not by much, so they can suck it as far as I’m concerned.

A little dramatic, but yeah F the Pens.

but really, what matters is Cups. OV needs another one, full stop. That is what we need now and the accolades will continue.
 
And even beyond. Always been a rivalry with Pittsburg. We need another cup to win the generational rivalry.

Conversely the Oiler PP was operating at around 40% for a good chunk of the first 20 games. Its slipped down to 32% and with the scoring pace of those two players. We are getting into Ovechkin's annual scoring tear season. When Backstrom comes back the puck will start moving to the right guy more often and with better accuracy and quickness of decisions. That pp% will go up at least 3 points. The Edmonton pp sliding off unsustainable levels and the Caps pp improving returning all star level players will create a real mess on the mains.

I honestly don’t care about the Penguins or really any other team. I know with 99% confidence this is the best I’m ever going to have it as a Caps fan and I’m not going to waste negative energy on the Pens or anyone else. I just want to enjoy Ovi and this team while they’re still on top of the league and setting records because it’s going to f***ing suck when it’s over.

How has Ovi been in the league for 17 years already? Time really does fly.

It wont be over ever because its in our hearts already.

Time does fly though. I remember txmd with much less messages count and I thought it was a lot back then :D

It's funny, my Caps fandom has come full circle back to when Ovi was a young pup -- I kinda don't care about the wins or losses, I care whether Ovi scored.

I would argue that its entirely different. Black jersey Ov played on a team that had no chance every night and the only thing to cheer for was an Ov goal or 4. Now, with a team that is pushing for first place all the time and winning most of the time, the win is boring. The focus is on Ov. But if this team became suddenly as bad as the Zubrus Caps, there would be a revolt. Ov or no Ov.

I also think that Ov is producing the first 3rd of what could be an historic and epic season. Something people talk about for the rest of their lives. I am not sure that happens on a bad hockey team. We can see what a shorthanded power play produces for him

Passing the 1/3 mark of the season. Ovechkin has 10 more even strenth points than McDavid. 9 more than Drai. Ovechkin is skunking the league at even strenth
