Said it at the time of the draft, and I'll say it again, we really missed out on Saad. Went 3 picks after Koko.

Might be so but I wouldn't say we "missed out" in the grand scheme of things. KoKo was an absolutely terrific value pick for the 2nd round. There are always steals, Saad is one of them, but we can't really be crying about it.

I don't think you can discount the benefit that Saad has from learning from the example set by Toews, Hossa, and Seabrook and from the chemistry he has with that organization. Hard to say what he becomes under the Chara/Bergeron regime. Maybe better, maybe worse. I feel that most of the draft busts out there are a product of being in the wrong team environment for the prospect. The same can contribute to draft surprises outside the first round.

Everyone gets wrapped up in things like WAR in baseball and whatnot...

I'd like to determine the value of a guy like Koko, over the course of a season, that reflects his value if he put up consistent shoot-out goals.

How many goals from Koko, that lead directly to single points in the standings, would it take for him to have solid value to the team?

If he earns 3-5 points on 1-0 Boston SO victories, bam.

The Bruins need to have a little more of a plan with the SO this year...we all hate it...but for the love of Orr...they had no plan last year...

You play each game for 2 points. And it seemed like the SO, that is worth one point, was barely given a passing thought. Mind boggling. Firing worthy.

So, yeah, I'd like to see Smith sold off, and Koko in his place. For money. And the SO.

...And a pretty awesome Kid L3.....................a man can dream...

*yup, put him on wing, I don't care.

I agree that we should have a shoutout specialist on the 4th line. Even better if he's a ELC developing kid.

I will root for Koko to make it. Put a PK specialist and an energy guy on his wings and play them minimal 5 on 5 and give them special teams icetime.

Asking not challenging, is Koko capable of playing wing or if not, is this a guy anyone would think could play or you`d want to play a 4th line role and lose some of the offensive talent he has?

I`m still uncertain where he`d even fit in?

Looks like Yeti's gone, so he's the first injury call up at the center position.

What is different from Chara/Bergeron vs Toews/Hossa in terms of learning the game?

Hopefully he pushes Spooner for a job next year, I am sure he has some added motivation seeing Spooner get promoted and play so well in the last part of the season. Will be keeping a close eye on those 2 during camp to see who looks better.

Can Koko play left wing? I know center is his best position, but that might be his best chance to get some ice time. Particularly if we end up trading Lucic, Eriksson, or Reilly Smith.

it was to the point that they literally appeared not to "care" once it got to the shootout. it was more about making the point about how much they disliked the shootout than it was to win the shootout.

as you said, firable. also insulting. it's only a coin flip when both sides are trying. otherwise, it's a weighted coin.

I hope he sees some time next year. Nothing better than some internal competition on your roster. Keeps the young kids hungry and prevents your vets from being lazy and complacent. In theory anyway

he's going to have to if he wants to be in our top 9 in the future. Lots of players who are really good play C while they are younger and need to switch to wing in the NHL.

I've always thought Stamkos should be a W rather than a C. His game is better suited to it. He was so dominant as a kid he always played C and has stuck with it his whole career.

I hope I am wrong, but I do not think he is an NHL player. I think he is Chris Bourque-islav ... but not as good in the AHL. He scored 14 goals last year in the minors. That does not scream top 9. To me, it screams playing in Europe.

The shootout aspect can't be overlooked. The team basically lost the playoff spot for 14/15 in shootouts. Rask did his part, but the shooters were by and large embarrassing.

Saw him play live once in New Jersey .

Not a doubt in my mind he will play in this league, and play well.

We absolutely need a SO specialist like an Oshie type. He may not be a top 9 player but if he can produce on the fourth line and help us gain an extra point in shootouts where we left many on the table last year, than I would be ecstatic.

I hope you're right. I saw Andrew McKim play in NH and he looked great. He was a career minor-leaguer. I also thought Hamil looked OK in a few games in Boston and he bites.

Khokhlachev to Arizona for Gormley?

I would hope they can get a almost-bust like Gormley for less than our best forward prospect.

Guy was a 1st round pick in 2010, which is a life-time And still hasn't been able to crack the sad-sack Coyotes line-up on a regular basis.

I think that it's because Tippett preaches a defense-heavy system and Gormley is viewed as stronger offensively. Also, this: "A talented two-way defenseman, Gormley provides skill, poise, and leadership on the back-end. Although he is an all-around defenseman, Gormley is developing into an exceptional offensive player with lethal power-play skills." And this: "[Coyotes GM]Maloney has shown patience and allowed players time to develop, rarely rushing prospects and putting them in situations they are not prepared for." Quotes from Hockey's Future articles.

I personally don't view Gormley as a bust at all and think that a one-for-one deal with Koko is fair and answers a need for both clubs.

Good job plucking a scouting report likely written 4-5 years ago when Gormley was highly thought of.

And what need does he fill that Morrow wouldn't fill next season? I'd rather give Morrow a chance vs. moving Khokhlachev to fill an need that isn't there.

I think he'll be better than spooner but what do I know

Wish these guys could play together, maybe take turns being the center.

Koko has skill and a drive to score, his skating isn't as good as Spooner's but I would say everything else is on par, Koko might have a better shot.
