Confirmed with Link: Alex Tuch signed 8x10.5m, 3rd round pick traded to Buffalo

Have the Caps ever landed the top UFA?
Jagr was a trade, followed by a massive contract. Not exactly a UFA or the same scenario as the modern sign-and-trade, but it was comparable from the perspective of landing the biggest fish on the market before he tested free agency.

The following year they got Lang, who was the biggest forward to actually change teams. There were a couple bigger names (namely Selanne) but they stayed with their current teams.

Wasn't Holik in there too, I feel like we were rumored in on him and it didn't happen

oh my lordy lord ... this is bloody exciting isn't it :D

anybody who shits on this move has rocks in their head ... who cares about the last 3 years of Tuch's contract ... if he plays well for the first 5 this is a great signing

dam we are gonna be hard to play against
As someone in favor of the move, the real risk isn't that he falls off at 35, it's that he could fall off at 32.

Wasn't Roenick also around that "confederate money" timeline? (ended up with the Flyers IIRC)

Not super excited with the Tuch deal, happier with Kyrou.

Well the price is right, a 3rd. As soon as we got Kyrou, I thought about getting Tuch. Hell, we still have a 1st at this point. How good is that?

We are a RD away from be serious contender for the next 2-5 years minimum. I'll take it and be extremely happy.

As a supporter and admirer of GMCP's patience in recent times, this is all extraordinarily good work.

Sell Lappy, Chuckie, Miro and maybe even Sandin to hopefully restock the mid round draft picks. Sign TVR for low money, and get as good a RD as we can find. Call it a day.

I like Sandin more than most here, I think. But regardless, with a busted knee his value is low. Keep him. Let him heal and show he's still got his game. And then if there's a deal to be made at the deadline, go for it.

Otherwise yes to all of the above.
